🧙 How Brienne of tarth Became Pretty

  • Brienne of Tarth once had a very different future in mind in ASOIAF from her creator George R.R. Martin. He envisioned a brutal, world weary version of Brienne post the five year gap. Find out where the winds would've blown her to, far from the Brienne we know from Game of Thrones. Quotes read by BryndenBFish.

Right on Ru! George is not kind, especially to his innocents. Brienne is maybe one of the most innocent, and as such is getting punished for it. Sad though because she is wonderful;.

Brienne’s chapters are by far my favorite. There’s something so comfy and relaxing about certain aspects of it, so tragic about others, and down right horrifying at some pivotal points.
One thing that I think is important to take away from her chapters as far as worldbuilding goes is despite the tragedy and destruction which has befelt Westeros, we see plenty of scenes of perseverance, of people rebuilding and creating new things on the ashes of what’s fallen. It’s a reminder of the tenacity of the human spirit, that no matter what hits us, that we’ll get back up again. Still, that also makes it even more depressing that war will likely ravage these lands again, probably multiple times in the near future, which almost makes these moments of minor triumph feel somewhat futile.

For a second I thought that this theory was all about Dany’s timeline not being actually chronologically in sync with the rest of the books, maybe months or even a year or two ahead of the westerosi counterparts, I was all up connecting dots until the end brought everything crashing down... Hahahaha great content mate I may binge your channel immediately.

Wow this video was kind of chilling actually. I’m running through my head how she could have become Pretty Maris in the timeline and I’m thinking too about how Maris mounts the dog heads. If Rorge with the Hound helm had done anything to her in this alternate timeline that would make sense

Again, another video referred to by The Disputed Lands. A very compelling video! It does make me sad that Brienne could one day turn into Pretty Marys though. I suppose what you've highlighted about her arc in the later books does look like her becoming progressively more jaded, which is why I hope that she doesn't become like Pretty Marys! But then, I have read this series before and it's not all sunshine and rainbows in Westeros! :D

I agree with this. But no doubt did George change shit around. Like their height. Robert is about 6'6" and the hound is over 6'8". If they're around the same height, Brienne and Robert, then Maris is a hell of a great deal smaller than Brienne. But if this was Brienne, imagine how much more intimidating the torturer of the windblown would've been.

  • @rica314
    @rica314 Před 6 lety +48

Sorry, but I don‘t see how anything of this could work
    1. When we meet Brienne, we (the readers) already know that life is not a song (from Sansa‘s experiences), we know that „righteous and honorable“ men might end like Ned, we know that many knights are no „true knights“ (Gregor Clegane, Jaime, etc) and we learn that war is horrible (Arya chapters, but also Brienne/Jaime chapters)
We don‘t need a „broken Brienne =Pretty Meris“ for that
So what purpose would it serve to transform Brienne into Pretty Meris?
That it‘s stupid to believe in „right and wrong“? - That you‘ll end up with your breasts cut off, scarred, and as a ghastly shadow of yourself if you‘re stupid enough to be „good/trustworthy/honorable/loyal“?
Brienne in all her naivete shows us that there is good in the world, and that you should fight for it (It would work as well the other way round: There won‘t be anything „good“ unless you fight for it)
    2. It‘s absolutely out of character for Brienne to join a sellsword company
    Even if we assume that
    - she isn‘t heir to Tarth anymore (maybe her father married and got a son)
    - and she somehow spent/lost all the money Jaimie gave her
    - and she lost the incredibly valuable magic sword „Oathkeeper“
    she could go home.
So far she‘s lost nothing that she had before we even knew about her ( =before she joined Renly‘s Rainbow Guard)
You just assume that Brienne knows nothing but „fighting“ - and that‘s wrong.
    3. And there‘s absolutely no reason for her to search a whole continent for a girl with dark hair which might be alive or not
Arya doesn‘t want to go to Braavos. She wants to go to the Wall.
But the captain won‘t take her anywhere but Braavos, and even to Braavos, he just takes her because she‘s got the iron coin from the House of Black and White.
So if Brienne knows about a ship from Essos in Saltpans, she should have thought about:
    - Sure that there weren't any other ships in Saltpants?
    - Would Arya want to go to Essos?
    - Couldn‘t the the ship have sailed to Gulltown (or another port in Westeros) before retourning to Essos?
    4. And why the hell would I join a sellsword company to find a little girl?
