  • Masaharu Koga fountain pen and ink aficionado from the land of the rising sun is known for his love for Indian fountain pens. Koga San was there at the Sulekha factory to see ink being made and soak up the legacy that is Sulekha. To commemorate the momentous occasion, a pen meet was organised in the factory where some close friends, connoisseurs all, were present to meet and greet him.
Nimo Pluto - the irreplaceable writer, fountain pen, and ink enthusiast, was there, as were the husband-wife duo of Karishma Siddique Roy and Diptanshu Roy. Karishma, perhaps one of the finest fountain pen and ink sketch artists of the genre needs no introduction as some of her works are prominently featured on Sulekha packaging. Diptanshu on the other hand is a rockstar in the real sense of the term - a maestro of the mandolin. He is also an accomplished artist of rare sensibility and is the creative head of a multinational advertising agency. Both Karishma and Diptanshu are close friends of Koga San.
Sudipta Chatterjee ephemera collector and preserver of historical artefacts was also there to greet the special guest in his own, inimitable way. He presented Koga San with a handwritten menu of a Tokio-based Japanese Restaurant from the last century - the ink marks still legible despite the passage of decades. Kaga San too, passed around gifts that he had brought especially for us.
The assembled guests were given a tour of the factory, and the ink-making process was explained in detail by the man credited with Sulekha’s fairy tale revival - Kaushik Maitra. That done, the fountain pen fanatics drew out the pens that they were carrying, and animated discussions ensued. Koga San stole the sun by showing some exquisite pieces from his collection picked up from different parts of the world.
Sulekha's latest ink offerings were presented to the august gathering, who tested the products and gave invaluable suggestions.
    The discussions continued over lunch.
Inked Happiness was there too, and it was an honour and a pleasure to have conducted the unique meet.

An amazing gathering. I truly enjoyed this video. Japanese are not that parochial. They are always interested in what other manufacturers have to offer.

It amazes me that a Japanese person is interested in Indian FP! Japan possesses the Sailor, Pilot, Namiki, and a plethora of other high-quality writing instruments. BTW, excellent video!😍
