Last story: Oh shit. Even the Primeminister refused to cover?
It's Justin Trudeau, what'd ya expect?!
@@seanshanleyAnimeUWLPer what a lazy man can't even deliver mail
*falls over laughing* I think he ment Post Master but said Prime Minister insisted. Though the thought of the Canadian Prime Minister delivering mail to cover someone's vacation is just REALLY funny. SO glad that I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.
@@SerenaSilverMoon I heard that too and I was like hold on you mean Post Master 😆
@@SerenaSilverMoon Oh, the joke, thanks for explaining it.
I always thought "revenge is a dish best served cold" meant it's best to lie and wait for the perfect time to start your plans. Y'know
Exactly.
Also, if you act rashly in the heat of the moment, then you may cause yourself more harm than the person who you want to take revenge on.
I always thought that's what it meant ^^
That is the way it's supposed to be interpreted. This other way Rslash talks about is one I have never heard before.
Yep, it means laying in wait and getting your ducks in a row before striking.
That's how I was taught it at school!
revenge is never cold if its nuclear
I'm impressed by how eventful life of Deleted is. We heard so many stories from this user.

Actually the meaning of a "revenge is a dish best served cold" is actually exactly that, that revenge is often more satisfying if it's not done immediately.
Yes "best served cold" means you wait patiently and deliver revenge after a lot of time has passed. The main advantage is that you take yiur time and are fully prepared while the subject is taken off guard. Also the added satisfaction of the party likely having forgotten all about what happened and being hit out of nowhere.
This, plus also it lets you cool down from that initial anger burst, when you're most likely to do something you'll regret later.
@@HumbleWooper EXACTLY. Not done in the heat of anger, but in the cold that comes when anger fades. That way you can both savor it more, and are less likely to do something that harms yourself or innocents in the process.
Also the part of patiently meaning that one has to be cold not as cruel, but that you have to avoid being hot headed
It actually refers to not reacting in the *heat* of the moment. That was a good try though. 👍
I think Rslash is the only person to think it is cold as ruthless…
"Revenge is sweet"
"Revenge is a dish best served cold"
Revenge is ice cream!
Wise words of wisdom from Wednesday Addams
Now we just need to narrow down the flavor. Personally I'm into banana, chocolate and strawberry so I'll test to see if those are revenge.
I scream, you scream
We all scream for revenge!
Revenge = Dessert
It could also be pudding, pavê (Idk how to translate it, it's layered biscuits and cream cooled in the fridge), popsicles, gelatin, mousse...
I can think of a bunch of desserts that are best served cold.
18:16 "the prime Minister refused to cover..." I laughed harder than I should have lol. Hope you feel better soon man!
You gotta admit, the headlines would be glorious if the Prime Minister said yes.
I was so caught off guard by that 😂
I knew someone else would have picked up on that! It confused me so much I had to replay the last bit to make sure I'd heard him right 😂
I always assumed that "Dish best served cold" referred to waiting patiently for the right time to exact your revenge.
And in the last story the Post Master somehow got promoted to Prime Minister by the end of the story. Good for him!
That's what I always thought, too. Like when the abuser least expects it.
Same
I always thought because a dish is usually warm and good, the revenge would be cold and bad towards the recipient
Bill: "I've been good to you!"
OP: "I've got receipts."
OP: homie I got you in 8k ultra HD on camera dawg
First time I've heard about "revenge is a dish best served cold" in the context of being ruthless. Pretty sure almost everyone sees it as in patience
I always thought it meant ruthless too. But I think the double meaning is intentional.
It's both
Hope you get better from the cold.
Story 2: So Marilyn was not only lazy, but was willing to retaliate, lie on forms, and even manipulate the boss. She wants the pay, but not the work.
And thanks to her actions, the business got screwed. I wonder if she fully knows why her pay dropped
And bosses liked ass-kissing a lot more than competent employees that actually bothered to do their work.
I was rooting for OP until the free lunch my family technically makes enough to get charged but we spend all the money so we have none for school lunches so mine lie people can work 2 jobs but still not make enough so I dislike OP a tad bit for that
I suspect “Marilyn”’s family make more than enough to feed their kids. Bit different if both parents work and are still struggling.
@@SweATZ87 It's actually fraud in the US. She could be charged if they wanted to charge her.
That’s clinical politics for you. Unfortunately, most offices have at least one Marilynn or another.
Honestly, the attitudes and behavior is most of these people have me seriously rethinking my career in medicine.
😂😂 I love how in the last story Post Master became Prime Minister 😅😅
Story 2 reminds me what my friend told, when his mother was working in kindergarden. New womens came to work with kids and started acting like some teenagers, passive agreesive behaviour to co-workers, playing favorites, gossiping, etc :) My friends mother somehow endured it till she went on retirement. Worst part, she couldn't go to her boss, cause she was a young witch as well and was ok with such behaviour.
Oh yeah, I've heard pta and teaching staff act very clique-y
That post master got one heck of a promotion! Love you Rslash. 😁
"The prime minister refused to come in and work"
Yeah they be like that 🤣🤣🤣
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" means you should not do it in the heat of the moment, being under the influence of strong emotions. Calm down, collect your thoughts, hatch a plan and get your revenge. Calculated. Cold. That's how I always understood this phrase.
Yes, take your time. Wait.
It amuses me that he's convinced the correct meaning is the wrong one.
That's pretty standard for rSlash. Along with his overuse of the word "toxic".
@@Brigand231
He uses it a lot, but I don't recall his using it incorrectly ever. Most of the stories he reads are about objectively toxic people.
@@Richard_Nickerson Yes, I said overuse, not misuse.
@@Brigand231
Ok? Did you miss the 2nd sentence of my 2 sentence comment or something...?
Edit: The point being that it can't be overused if it's accurate every time. It's not overuse, it's just a lot of use.
The expression, "revenge is a dish best served cold" DOES mean to let the situation cool down.
The period of 'cooling' is left to the person seeking revenge, but that's definitely how I've always taken it.
Late response, but not entirely wrong; however, it refers to more of a calculated revenge. Yes, you "let the situation cool down", but you're only doing so to get everything into place before you execute your plan. The reason the phrasing is the way it is is because it's cold and calculating.
I always thought the "revenge is a dish best served cold" means you take the time to cool down the initial anger before you start planning your revenge. Like, the phrase "hotheaded" means your thoughts are prone to be blinded by anger, while "coolheaded" means your thoughts are calm and serene even when you're burning with anger in your heart. So, "cold" as in a mix between "coldheaded" and "ice cold", as in you're fully engaged in the mindset to do raw calculations and strategizing a most ruthless, efficient, and hard-hitting revenge as possible without your emotions negatively affecting your thinking capabilities anymore.
"revenge is a dish best served cold" actually is about patience, as the saying is present in many other languages where cold doesn't have the "lack of empathy" or "cruelty" meaning it bears in english
I wish the five people quitting had all written WHY they were quitting so it went on record that not only was their colleague a problem but that their boss supported the problem at their expense.
The second way you interpreted "revenge is a dish best served cold" is correct. We had an English thing once at school about proverbs and sayings like that. In fact, if you Google it right now the first result will be from Oxford and it says "vengeance is often more satisfying if it is not exacted immediately"
It always amazes me that people will double down on the wrong thing they're just guessing at instead of a 5 second google search... it's genuinely amusing to me that rSlash is convinced the correct meaning is incorrect. A non-native speaker knows it better than he does ffs
Hope you feel better man. Being sick is the worst.
rSlash: **Says he has a cold**
rSlash: **Explains the meaning of "Revenge is a dish best served cold**
This can't be a coincidence.
There’s no such thing as a coincidence
rSlash: *Gets the meaning of "revenge is a dish best served cold" wrong. He was closer the second time.
He mis-explains it though
@@DarthAxolotl
Yeah, he's literally convinced that the correct meaning is incorrect.
I don't know, RSlash. I always understood "revenge is a dish best served cold" as to take your time and make it worth it. Not ruthlessly. That's why the "dish" part is there
Last story : Why did you tell did guy the days you needed off? He was clearly doing it on purpose. Never tell these sort of people your plans.
@rslash it’s definitely the second one. Not only is it better to wait so the intended target forgets about the whole thing, but in the world of food in recipes for dishes that are “best served cold” that’s exactly what it says.
I always thought that "revenge is a dish best served cold" meant that you should allow yourself to cool off instead of acting in the heat of the moment.
I never even thought about that first interpretation of revenge is a dish best served cold. I've always been under the impression that meant to take your time
That CEO got the karma he much deserved. If someone screws you over, get them back and some.
Bill: "Come on man, I've been good to you!!"
OP: "yes, you have! You have been so amazing, that I thought it would be extremely selfish of me to not share that same goodwill with you. It's such a good thing your tickets are nonrefundable! What was your favorite line again? Oh yeah - *Too bad*."
I’ve always thought that a dish best served cold is that it’s more satisfying when the other person doesn’t expect it. Or, that you take the time to calm down and cool off so you can rationally plan.
He's not actually sick, this is a vocal twin who sounds near perfect, and a cold is the perfect cover up... the real R/Slash is on a vacation somewhere exotic.
Not to sound like a butthole, but i love it when rslash gets a cold. His cold voice hits differently, and it's been a while since the last time he had a cold. Get well soon Rslash!
According to a few sites, the term "Revenge is a dish best served cold" is a variation of a line in a book in French. It means that revenge is good when you plan ahead and wait for things to fall into place.
I have always understood it as best served cold: waiting until later when things aren’t heated and they thought you moved on. It could be cold as in ruthless as well.
Man, I will NEVER understand how people will want special days for themselves or their family, but then turn right around and expect their coworkers/employees to never take a special day off. I dont work for people who dont let me take my anniversary off. That shit is SO last century.
From Post Master to Prime Minister. Damn :B
Glad someone else caught that
It does refer to waiting. The expression comes from a French novel. The 1846 English translation is "revenge is very good eaten cold". The exact phrase "revenge is a dish best served cold" was from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Khan got his revenge 15 years after his first encounter with Kirk.
Rslash: ruthlessly or patiently?
Dora the explora: Why not both?
To me, serving revenge cold means that, instead of acting immediately on impulse and emotion, we take our time to cool our heads off and plan properly. It helps minimize damage to ourselves and maximize damage to the subject of our revenge.
Love you and your voices, rSlash. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

14:00 I actually did turn down $5000 to stay a month longer at a job I was quitting in my youth. I was going to a job that paid a bit more for a boss I knew I liked working for, but most importantly I was sick of being jerked around at the job I was leaving. In one year, they lost 13 of 11 IT people. That's right - they had 11 IT positions, and in the span of a year, they had to hire 13 people into them because several people didn't even make it a year before bailing.
Hey @rslash! First, hope you are feeling better! Second, your speculation about the meaning of "Revenge is a dish best served cold" at 6:00 is 100% spot on! It means take your time with your revenge, as opposed to doing it in the heat of anger, because... well, if you do it in the heat of anger, you're going to make mistakes, you won't enjoy your revenge, and you might get in trouble!

I always thought a cold revenge meant you need to wait for the good moment to strike 🤷🏼♀️
I never even thought of "revenge is a dish best served cold" could have a meaning other than letting time pass before finally dishing out the revenge. Now that you say that I could *see* it meaning merciless but I've always thought it was like... waiting until the other person forgot their transgression almost entirely before finally screwing them over much later.
You are 100% correct on the phrase "revenge is a dish best served cold." It does in fact mean that it is better to pay them back later in time, rather than immediately. And I assume it also means it will probably be cold in the sense that it is harsh and ruthless. I love all your videos, r/prorevenge is my favourite!❤❤

“revenge is a dish best served cold“ is totally about waiting and giving it time. You want to cool off and be clear headed to one make sure it’s worth it and two to be most effective.

The Revenge is a dish best served cold is a phrase from a very old French book. It means it's better when it is waited on, meticulously plotted and when the other person really isn't expecting it anymore or has been fearing it for a long time (like an impending doom). The implications of this phrase are that the deliverer of this revenge is somewhat dispassionate in the delivery, at least in public as it is often used when the saboteurs are in close proximity to the target. It also means you plan better revenge when you are calm, as opposed to the more hot headed phrase "when planning on revenge, dig 2 graves." (Art of War)
Get well soon, rSlash!
You sound fine. Love the content as always.
To clown on my dad, we’ve gotten In arguments after he has tried to joke about his staff’s pay. Like if you cant afford to pay them at least decently, either don’t hire all of them or actually move to a practice with multiple doctors so employees are properly paid (he’s a doctor with a solo practice. You can imagine how well it goes).
I have never heard anyone say "revenge is a dish best served cold" and mean "ruthless" and such.
Always cold as in time, like a hot meal left out to chill.
But they also say revenge is sweet.
So if it's sweet and cold, does that mean revenge is ice cream?

"Revenge is a dish best served cold" I have always understood it to mean waiting patiently for the right moment, long after they have forgotten about you...to strike.
I never even heard of the interpretation of that phrase using "cold" as ruthless. Every example I'd seen had always been in the context of waiting until the person least expects it, and taking the time to plan it out perfectly. Don't feel bad though, because I brought it up to my roommate, and they also thought it meant to be as ruthless as possible
WOW!! I had never though to give the first meaning to "revenge is a dish best served cold" I had always interpreted it as the second meaning
Because rSlash is wrong
I've always thought that "best served cold" has 2 meanings that work together. The first is that it is best to wait some time like OP was saying. The other is that is in cold blood because you have waited long enough that it's not just a "hot" angry reaction, but it's cold and calculated.
It's funny how that Klingon proverb "Revenge is a dish best served cold." is now being analyzed like that. XD
in german we have the same phrase "Rache wird am besten kalt serviert" What is more leaning towards the patient version because it refers to a dish served cold like if it lay for some time to cool down. But this also gives a third version in my opinion. Because if you let your revenge cool down so you can cool down you can not only wait for the best situation but at the same time you won't act in the heat of the moment but can act ice cold and serve the best revenge planned out without any emotions in the way.
I have autism and have trouble listening to voices that sound bad to my ears, even when you're sick I have no trouble listening! You're by far my favorite youtuber, been listening daily for years
Revenge is a dish best served cold = Don't get mad, get even.
It's about being calculated, cold and emotionless in order to execute the best revenge plan possible.
There are two sayings about revenge. "Revenge is a dish best served cold" and "revenge is sweet." Therefore revenge is icecream.
"revenge is a dish best served cold" is believed to be originally French, from sometime between the 1750's to 1850's (it isn't quite clear on the exact date as there are a lot of false originators). It expresses the notion that vengeance is more satisfying when exacted some time after the harm that instigated it. To create more retribution against your foe.
I absolutely love how in the last story PM became Prime Minister instead of Post Master lol I was like "uh yeah duh why would the Prime Minister be out delivering mail?"
rSlash, if you're sick, please take a break. You've been putting out daily content for YEARS now and it's always appreciated, but you also need to take care of yourself
Well your logic is sound. If he does that. Some People will complain sadly
18:14 The prime minister *snicker* Honest mistake, I know but it's still funny to have the image in your head of a prime minister of a country going "No, I won't cover your shift? Why did you think I would? I don't even work here! I'm the prime minster of Malaysia!"
18:14 "Prime Minister" made my morning.
Autopilot is some of the funniest shit ever.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" The answer to this is yes. Ruthless AND when they least expect it.
I always thought that “revenge is a dish best served cold” meant that you shouldn’t take revenge on an impulse & in the heat of the moment thus damaging yourself in the process as well, but to wait to cool down and approach it level headed, doesn’t necessarily need to be patient or ruthless, just well calculated
I've always interpreted the saying "Revenge is a dish best served cold" to mean that it is best done not in the heat of the moment, but coldly, logically and patiently for maximum effectiveness.
CCA at the post office here, RCAs don’t stick to one route like this, they get bounced around just like CCAs, also I would never suggest the post office as being a second job, most days you will be working 12 hours and more than likely 5 to 6 day weeks
Revenge is cold, revenge is sweet. In short, revenge is ice-cream.
Also I burst out laughing at 18:13 when you said "prime minister" instead of post master 🤣
Last story had me thinking of something that a lot of people seem to forget: Your employer doesn't own you. If you have a valid enough reason to take days off, they legally shouldn't be able to (and usually can't) make you come in those days. It is _their_ responsibility to cover any crucial positions in any of their employees' absence, not yours. They might retaliate by threatening significant pay cuts or outright terminate you, as bad employers do, but as long as you play by the books and document everything you need in case you feel like you have to take it to court later, they can try their best to make you act like their slave.
Damn, they must be super short-staffed if they even have the Prime Minister working at that post office.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" always meant patient revenge to me. I've never thought of it as "cold" as in "brutal."
When the quote appears in movies and books, it's always following or leading up to a well-planned long-running revenge.
the "revenge is a dish best served cold" thing is for both, if someone wrongs you, dont hold back, but do wait until you can get them as best as you absolutely can
I worked at an eye doctor for over a year as the pretesters who did all the tests before you saw the actual doctor. I had a coworker with my same job who was the actual worst. People have actually gotten eye problems because of her neglectfulness. Me and my other coworker did 99% of the work because she never showed up to work. We had double doctor days two days a week and those days are INSANE. She always called off on those days leaving me to scramble between a full patient load of two doctors. I also have a panic disorder which I did my best to hide from patients. That was the absolute worst. She decided when I left because I found a better opportunity to, and I quite, “stick it to the man” that she wouldn’t give a notice and quit the same day I do. I felt awful leaving them like that.
"revenge is a dish best served cold" i never thought about the first meaning you mentioned. I only think of it as you should wait so you can really savor it when you finally get it. In the heat of the moment it will be sloppy and you can probably not enjoy it as much, take your time and make it perfect.
I interpreter the phrase “revenge is a dish best served cold” as a slow methodological approach, that is ruthless, perfectly timed and is intended to cause extreme damage when it is executed.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold" is a idiom. Meaning that revenge/vengeance is more satisfying when you have planned it out. Just like "in the heat of the moment" is about doing something (potentially) stupid because your angry now and not considering the consequences.
When giving resignesion It would be good saying "I hope the haircat was worth the reception crew", good luck!
About the "Revenge is the dish best served cold" - it means that you need to plan your revenge with a cool head, patiently and meticulously, not rush with the first idea that would come to your mind in the moment of anger. Cool down, look for the right moment, and then your revenge would be a sight to behold.
I always thought "Revenge is a dish best served cold" meant that it's best to be patient.
"revenge is a dish best served cold" meaning you permit those who have wronged you to forget about the unfinished business they left with you before you turn up and remind them at a time in which they are not prepared for it to be finished.
