      @@GigaTechWolf There's a bit more to it as EMTs. What you have to understand is that EMTs still have basic, human, preprogramed responses to emergencies/trauma/etc that anyone not an EMT might have. Which is to say, as an EMT, you can still roll up to a gory scene and panic/freeze/whathaveyou.
      Our training boils down to what could be compared to basic robot programing (I call the result medic robot mode). Everything boils down to basics, or ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation), and is designed to be automatic responses that we can do without even thinking about it. It's why we practice over and over, its why we pull out the dummies in our downtime, it's why we are required to do refreshers so often, it is the core of our job for all EMTs.
      Other jobs can have similar training methods if they face similar types of scenarios (ie: Firefighters, military, some cops though not as many as there should be, nuclear jobs, etc). I've also seen jobs that aren't trauma related but have trauma response teams that are trained similarly (usually partly by us). However, no, it's not the same as a normal work team. Because for us, it's life or death pretty close to all of the time. You have to treat every call like it could literally kill you or your patient. If you don't, you are a bad EMT.

    1st story....she pled guilty to disability fraud....because the fines for that are way WAY smaller than the fines for frauding an insurance company. She would much rather say she was working when she wasn't than admit she wasn't there at all.
    Literally insurance fraud fines can be up to a quarter million PER violation.

    2nd story: As someone who's had a court case I should have lost by all rights, let me be the one to inform you that if you do not show up to court, you are GOING to lose. Doesn't matter how easily you would have won if you showed up, the fact that you didnt show up shows the court that you dont care. And the courts arent payed to care. They're paid to review evidence.

      Not in my experience. I had a clear default situation against a former landlord, who didn't show up. The judge claimed I sued the wrong company and threw out the case, saying I could refile. I tried to explain that the defendant's statutory agent sent the lawsuit to the wrong company, which was not my fault. No good. He was clearly too senile to understand.

      Judge Judy technically works because of people like that. They are more willingly to show up there because they will get paid for their appearance, and the production pays the winning side;
      So people prefer to go on stage, basically follow a staged trial (since she's a arbiter and not a judge) and get a bit of money instead of going past arbitration to the real trial and risk losing even more money, besides legal fees;
      So they avoid a trial, deal with arbitration and get money anyways, and since she's a registered arbiter lawyer the decision is considered legal.

My NICU got a call to pick up a preemie and it was my turn to go. We fly out to a small regional hospital about 1 1/2 hour drive by car. I walk into the nursery and see my coworker-the one on disability-running away from where I was. I got the baby and left. After my shirt, I spoke to our head nurse and told her what I saw. Turns out, my coworker was collecting disability AND working full time at this other hospital. She ended up getting a HUGE fine and probation.

    Last story: sororities are toxic af in my opinion. There are some good, inclusive ones out there but most are the leftover dregs of a time long past. When I was in college, one time, I was walking into the campus bookstore. I saw some sorority girls trying to find members to pledge. They offered flyers to every girl who walked past them but me (I’ve always been a heavier girl and back then I was pretty tomboyish). They just acted like I didn’t exist. How is that supposed to make someone feel who’s trying to feel included and find their place on a big college campus? My weight and interests have always been a point of bullying for others toward me. It just made college feel like middle and high school all over again. Nah, it’s a no from me, sororities ain’t it.

    Second story just goes to prove, always answer a court summons. Even if the opposition has no chance of winning. A default judgment is a scary thing, since it turns even a 0.01% chance of winning into a 100% chance, simply because the other side didn't bother to show. So even if your lawyer says you don't need to show up and the other side can't possibly win, you should probably still show up.

You don't get to make a contract for payment and then break it at your own convenience, that destroys any trust in institutions and will ensure insurance companies will only make it harder and harder in the future for hospitals and people to get payments due to the insurance companies distrust (from previous fraud).

    Must have kind of different laws in whatever state the second to last story was in, cause if you miss a court date here, even if it is a civil court date, they'll hold you in contempt and charge you, meaning you may go to jail for a few days, but worse, you'll have a criminal record, and you lose by default. So, if it was a criminal case, you'll be automatically convicted of whatever charges, plus contempt, and if it was a civil case, well, you'll be automatically required to do whatever the court requires, but still face jail time because contempt.
