A good, trustworthy mechanic is worth their weight in gasoline; which is probably more expensive than gold right now.
Being a DIY basic mechanic (like OP sounds) is about the weight in diesel. Same the big stuff for your mechanic, but I always do my oil changes, air filters, brake/coolant flushes and disk brakes. Can't imagine how much I've saved over the years doing that.
I'm 5'11" 250 pound man with a beard and covered in tattoos. They still try to pull that crap over on me.
There is exactly one gas station in my city with prices under $5.70/gal. And to think that $4.00/gal was considered super expensive a few years ago.
@@wta1518 meanwhile in canada 5.70 usd a gal was normal before and now is over 7 dollars usd a gal
@@leongao5120 Holy shit that's expensive.

Girlfriend: **Surprised Pikachu Face**
Yeah, I love that she thought that was a threat. Meanwhile, I was thinking he should ditch her as soon as she stole his earbuds and ran into her dorm. LOL
Sounds like she was toxic anyways
Yeah that.. just isn't cool. After a year of dating? Sounds like he dodged a bullet. Who robs their BF?
@@fdm2155 OP: "I see that as an absolute win."
I’ll bet you ANYTHING she thought it was “cute” like “stealing a hoodie” (I don’t like that either tbh) that’s why she tried to be all sweet asking for the case and was gobsmacked he was actually upset and not giving her what she wanted
OP should be thankful for those airpods. Thanks to them, he was able to hear those red flags swaying in the wind on time.
Also, I'm not sure how she didn't realize that they were done the moment she stole from him.
She probably thought that she was so pretty and appealing that she could get away with it.
Lesson: NEVER assume.
BWF
Exactly! Did she really think he'd be okay with her stealing his earbuds and leaving him with what he thought was a useless pair he didn't have time to exchange?
nice NKG pfp!
She thought she was being cute and quirky/bratty. “I took my bfs sweater” “I took mines earbuds, he still loves me tho.” Reality hit her with that *record scratch*

Karens at Disneyworld is like finding salt in the ocean
Yea
Disney caters to them. The company keeps pricing out the average family to bring in more entitled 1%ers
Or space in space
My mom somehow has the air of always knowing what she is doing, so people assume her to work for Disney when we vacation there. We sometimes have cashless bets about how many times she is approached by other visitors for help.
And I’ve been approached a couple times.

How stupid and petty do you have to be to take your boyfriends things, say that their now your things and then when you realize you only have half of what is needed to enjoy them, threaten to break up with your boyfriend unless he gives you his property
Some girls think it's cute to steal their boyfriend's things
@@ahstiasummers5583 When my mother still lived, she would've said that's the difference between girls and women.
As a woman who had female friends… Many do this. It’s fairly common for them. Most commonly stealing hoodies and jackets and refusing to give them back even after break ups. Girls are bat shit crazy.
I take my husbands hoodies when I’m cold around the house.. But we live together and share a closet soooo
I feel happy for OP that he found out before marriage/ pregnancy and having to deal with her for a longer period of time
Yeah. It sounds like after she blew the kiss, he was done with her. Full stop
Mechanic: You wasted 45 minutes of my time!
And you wanted to waste thousands of dollars of my money. Seems like a fair trade.
And people wonder why I don't drive.
Totally what I was thinking!
R / didn't read this part but I find it hilarious. After complaining to the pregnant OP about wasting 45 minutes of his time, the mechanic tried to hand OP, a mini Bible. Does anyone smell something? I smell irony with a little bit hypocrisy.
"It's me, or the earbuds!"
*Laughs hysterically*
OP: *"YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE!!"*
When she stole his earbuds, I immediately thought, "Make her an EXgf!" And yep, she soon was!
"If you have to say that then I'd definitely take the earbuds. At least they aren't crazy."

THE LEGEND!!!
Mechanics are so shady if you know what’s wrong only ask them to repair what you originally went for then leave when they come up with their bs. They try this on women and elderly a lot
Sadly this is a huge problem. My brother was an automechanic for more than 30 years. His customers knew they could trust him so they followed him from job to job whereever he worked in the city! He works for a major airline now and some old customers still try to get him to fix their cars.
This is why my dad always insisted on fixing his car himself, and he always does cause he's great at mechanics and similar work. And it is also the reason why he insisted on me and my brother learning how to fix our own cars as well.
Hmmm, this seems to be an American problem. Doing that in the UK (and presumably the rest of Europe) is a crime that nets massive fines. You'd also risk losing your business permits.
That mechanic 100% listed all of those things BECAUSE they were new.
So when she left she would in fact have left the store with new things. He wouldn’t have to have even touched them
That makes a lot of sense, I hadnt considered that he saw what was new, assumed she didnt have a clue so later if she did have someone look they would see new parts.
Gotta love ultimatums sometimes. That girlfriend making the boyfriend choose between earbuds or her.
I'm so confused by the mechanics story, is it considered normal to expect your mechanic to cheat you out of money or something without risk of punishment? Cause where I live (Belgium) if a mechanic would try to pull this on someone and get caught that's an instant criminal record, at minimum a fine and at worst fine + jail time. Here the revenge part at best is, embarrassing them or making them waste time, like what the hell?
Yeah unfortunately in the US a lot of mechanics do this to anyone whose not a “manly man” in their eyes 🙄
In the US there can be civil penalties and business practices reported but rarely does any jail time get dished out. I’m sure there are nuclear revenge stories that show how far some go to expose them though.
I know that quite a lot of european countries have "customer protection laws" wherein things like this are prosecuted, and there are heavy punishments. In the US and other parts of the world, it seems the focus is more on protection of corporations than citizens, so there's way less legal protection for consumers.
In Socal (southern California) its different, you can only tell a customer what's broken or needs to be repaired. You can't recommend anything. Its a double edged sword though, customer won't get scammed but you'll also have very dangerous cars on the road. People still get scammed with this in place but if the scammers do get caught its either a fine or you can lose your business license. I've only heard of people catching fines though. But the double edged portion of that is say for example a person shows up with bald tires, metal to metal brake pads and brake fluid leaking, all I can tell them the specs on their tires and brakes, and what's leaking. I can't tell them its unsafe to drive like that, and I can't recommend they replace anything. All I can do is have them sign a work order saying they declined service for liability reasons and after they leave contact the DOT and report them for unsafe vehicle. I can't do this before they get on the road because it can be considered persuasion. But as a said in another comment section, 1st watch out for the places that offer 25 point free inspections its a way for those places to up sell and possibly scam and 2nd don't take your vehicle to jiffy lube. If you do take it to jiffy lube because its cheaper you deserve everything that happens to your car.
In Poland you have pretty much no protection from scammers,
in fact most scammers are protected by law.
Add the fact that the law also requires you to visit a mechanic once a year and have a stamp that your car is 100% OK, and you can see how this is a common practice here.
I finally couldn’t outrun the Covid, thank you for cheering up my day R/Slash!
Aw you got it? 🥺 Well then I shall be here cheering you on! You got this kick it's ass! 😃
@@Frostfire40 cheers dude! Appreciate your comment!

*First OP:* 2:05 He said it! He said the thing!
*Second OP:* OP just blue b4lled that Karen. So cruel, and yet, so well executed! Bravo, OP!
*Third OP:* Shoutout to OP for getting revenge on Scammy Mechanny (I like that name, lol). And shoutout to OP's dad for teaching OP and her brother about cars. I like hearing about parents teaching supposedly "gender-specific" tasks to kids of both genders, like teaching boys how to sew and teaching girls how to change a tire.
*Fourth OP:* LOL at rSlash's wife! I'd do the same thing but wait until the Boomer leaves. I don't like confrontation. :/
You mean pointlessly gendered life skills 😂
When I have kids, I'm going to pass down my diy mechanic skills to them. Granted by the time they have cars, they'll mostly be electric so they'll prolly not need much of what I pass down, but they'll still have it just in case.
@@azisles02 bro trust me them electric cars are good but still not an answer to completely get rid of gas powered cars

Last Story: OMG This has become one of my fave stories. I've heard stories before about how corporations send certain people to different departments to find people to fire in order to save profits. And this is a great example of why it's a bad idea. (not including Sgt FF leaving his folder where people could likely (albeit while digging) find it, mind you.) The way he responded to the discovery was epic.
I'd say it's borderlinking between Petty and Pro though, but only because of OP's experience and usefulness to the company.

I think the 10k raise makes it pro revenge
Story 1: Op all you needed to do was shout "stop thief" and the guards would have stopped her, but great revenge though she deserved it
Story 1: dodged a bullet.
Story 2: beast!
Story 3: predatory mechanics should be made unemployed.
Story 4: burns me up when bosses mistreat employees, then cry in their coffee when they realize how much the employee actually did.
Had a mechanic try to sell my mom on two new brake calipers for her car. One was frozen and needed replacement. The other was fine. He wanted around $500 for the work, but I knew that the parts alone (based on what he said needed doing) would be more than $500 unless he was buying junk parts. I took it to another mechanic I knew did honest work. For around $250, he replaced the one bad caliper and replaced the pads on both sides. The other stuff that "needed" to be replaced was perfectly fine.
Had a shady transmission mechanic once try to con me into replacing the tranny in my car, for $500 (this was late 1970s). Got another guy to check it. Turned out to be a faulty $5 kickdown switch.
My 11 year old son is really talented at explaining to boomers how to use smart phones and smart TVs. He taught both my mom and my fiance's mom how.
Any time a boomer has a question and he's around, if he knows the answer he shows them how in a way they understand because he's a very literal boy.
The things I'd tried to teach my tech illiterate mother for years, he was able to teach her in 1 quick tutorial. Honestly, if he could teach classes I think he'd be really great at it.
That's really cool!
I have a friend who doesn't know how to use online banking. She's not a boomer, she was born in 1998, but I keep offering to show her. Hopefully I can teach well too.
That is wonderful that he can find a way to teach people in a way that really sticks. He has a gift and I hope it takes him somewhere special.
Story 1. He was too indirect. As soon as she refused to come back out of the building, he should have called the police.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! “There was nothing I could do!” BS! Call the damn police! He should have still had the receipts right there, he could have got his headphones back and still returned the AirPods he’d bought her. And she wouldn’t have had anything at all for any period of time.
it would be a misdamener but if that headphones were over 500$ then she could’ve went to prison
@@ligmaballslolsub They were earbuds, not headphones. And assuming I heard the video correctly, the brand was Bose. And looking at the Bose website, the most expensive is $279.00, so it's a pretty safe bet that it would have been a misdemeanor.
Moral of the last story: If you have an office where at least 90% of the employees are technically incompetent boomers; maybe, just MAAAAYYYYBE don't try to screw over the minimum remaining 10% millennials helping the boomers!
This is definitely a zoomer, millennials know what "triggered" means
@@amandasunshine2 what is this comment even supposed to mean?
@@thatoneguy2655 it means that the OP of that story wasn't a millennial, they're a zoomer?
I'm a "boomer", and as you can see from my avatar, I know a little about computers. I think it's insulting to lump people together as if we're not all INDIVIDUALS. That's just one of the problems with the newer generations. Everybody has to be stuck into a box so you know whom you're supposed to hate. I'm a recently retired IT person, and I think Reddit and rSlash dunking on "boomers" all the time is getting old.
@@linuxuser4895 lmao immediately after calling for individual treatment you make a lump statement about "younger generations" 🤣 maybe take your own advice?
Story 2: We had a whole family of adults cut the group. I wish I told someone because they made fun of my mom when she told them they cut the line
"the husband doesn't say a word" wow, shocker
First story: Imagine if theft was a crime and they had police where OP lives, then he'd be able to call the cops and get his Bose earbuds back - no hassle as he's got the receipt. The outcome would be similar, but he'd save some money and she'd learn a valuable life lesson. Imagine the level of entitlement needed to pull a stunt like that and just assume you're in the right!
I like OP in the first story. Doesn’t take no shit. From anyone.
There needs to be a seperate organization that goes around and secret shoppers mechanics, and if they get caught pulling these stunts they are immediately shut down and black listed from owning a repair business. This shit is so common its scary, even at big box brand name shops like Jiffy Lube. Every time 60 minutes or a local news station does it at least 80% of the selected shops try this stuff. The US in general needs more regulations on private businesses.
We don't need more, we need the one's that already exist, in some cases ruthlessly so.
Oh, they tried scamming me the same way. Supposedly my entire brake system and suspension needed overhauling, but as soon as they've mentioned the serpentine belt I knew they were bullshitting me. It's been on my car for less than 48 hours. Told them immediately to lower my car and I continued driving it for many years. I still own it, but it really does need an overhaul now, so it's waiting for its hour to become a full on project.
As a "boomer", I can definitely believe your wife's story. A few years back I tried setting up an online business. Didn't turn out well, but being forced to work by myself it did teach me the value of Google and/or CZcams to figure out how to do things. And trust me...I learned how to do a lot of things. Still learning, too. Keep up the great work, I LOVE your videos.
When someone is about to rip you off like that then there is no too far when it comes to calling them out and embarrass them.
The mechanic story reminded me of this; My partner had to take the car to the dealership to get the Engine checked and they tried to tack on a bunch of other things that were apparently wrong with the car, so instead we took it to his uncle who has been a mechanic for over 15 years and he checked the car out and said that literally only one out of the six things that they listed was wrong. He then mentioned the fact that a lot of dealerships and mechanic shops are being told by the higher-ups and bosses that they need to fabricate more problems as a lot of shops are losing business, so so scummy
Not much risk of my earphones being nicked really as I go for cheap wired ones, I'd lose wireless in 5 minutes.
Yes, I like the idea of wireless but I worry about losing one.
@@fdm2155 They're tiny, expensive, and you carry them around. How can you *not* lose them? Especially if you're me.
@@fastertrackcreative easy be me who ears them constantlt
I can't even fit earbuds into my misshapen earholes.
My hearing sucks and I have in the ear canal hearing aids and rarely wear them away from home. At $5,000 a pair I'm taking no chances. I primarily bought them to meet hearing standards work otherwise my hearing is good enough to hear someone if I want to.
I'm so happy someone stood up to a scammer mechanic
Proud to say that this boomer was usually the person everyone would come to to figure out how to do stuff on the computers! My fellow boomers who are too lazy to learn drive me nuts!
I'm a boomer. I'm retired now but when I was working in an accounting office I was the guy the 20 and 30 year olds would come to for help with their computers. I knew things like how to write macros in Excel and how to get a document written in Word to transfer to a Mac.
@@Ambidexter143 Same. I found it SO funny. I am also retired. I have thought about doing help desk type stuff as a side hustle, but I can't handle how dense some of these folks (of all ages) are!
Your post points to one mistake later generations make, they seem to assume boomers are incapable of learning. That is a bit funny considering the people who got the technology ball rolling were boomers and those who laid the groundwork were of generations preceding us. I'm happily retired and modern technology was not part of my job but had it been I would and could have learned. Now all technology means to me is watching You Tube videos.
@@glennrishton5679 The worst was a young woman who had been hired as an assistant for me (I was in my mid-30s, and email was just beginning to be a thing for context). I caught her doing nothing while she was supposed to be learning something on the computer. I asked her what was up, and she said "the computer hates me." So, laziness crosses all generations...
Final story: this is probably my favorite workplace related pro revenge story, because not one, not two, but almost everyone in this company broke the sacred unspoken rule, you all know what it is-
I'd bring my car to good year every once in a while for an oil change. They always insisted on doing a full check on everything. After they did the oil change, they'd always hand me 5 or 6 papers saying all these things needed to be changed or fixed. And they kept fighting to get it done if I wanted to save the car. Why the hell am I going to spend $2500 - $3000 on a paint peeling 97' Toyota Camry only worth $600?
My first job was working under the table for a new local mechanic who had just set up in the area. I met him one day when my mom's car was making a weird noise-He checked it out and did a quick fix w/ a spot weld in less than 5 minutes, free of charge. He was the most no-bullshit mechanic I've known to this day, and his business was absolutely booming in no time. I had moved on to other work a few years later, but I came home from a trip out of state to find out that he'd suddenly passed away and I was too late to attend the funeral. He was a family friend and it was heartbreaking news. Still haven't found another mechanic as trustworthy/reliable as him.
that girl... you don't steal someone's earbuds wtf.
Disregard toxicity, embrace beats.
The same thing happened to me in one of those chain oil change places. I knew there was a small leak in the oil filter that would be corrected by the oil change. The service manager brought me back to the car, solemnly pointing out that there was a very largish leak in the oil hose(?) That required immediate repair to the tune of $900 and he didn't think it was safe to drive even 1 mile in that condition. My husband's undergrad was teaching shop in schools. I called him and he told me to drive to the school (about 500 feet away) and he would sic his students on it. They found an obviously very large recently made gash in the hose and he went to the auto parts store(another 600 feet away) and bought the replacement. Then he sent a detailed list of services(each student got a stipend for hours and/or tasks completed on cars) to the manager of the chain oil change place, with a VERY strong suggestion that he pay up or he would be calling 1)corporate headquarters, 2)the BBB and report them for shady business practices, and 3) the police for property damage, assault on (me) for causing the obvious recent damage which could have caused an accident possibly harming or even killing (me), and would be suing the shop's owner foe r the aforementioned damages.
He paid up, but required us to not perfom the items listed above. And to NOT report them to the media.
Didn't need to, as mine wasn't an isolated event. Another former customer did.🤣
I felt that mechanic issue. I went to go get my oil changed at walmart and the attendent was butthole. He said "just the oil change? Have you checked your flux capacitor? We can check that too." All I did was glare at him and say "no, just the oil", but I was livid. I regret not playing along and being sassy or something but I was too angry to think.
I would have told him my flux capacitor was at home and I was charging it for my next trip
As someone who looks like they know nothing about cars, and DOES know nothing about cars, A++++ to OP in that story.
Once had a mechanic attempt to scam me. Didn't feel like doing oil change in the snow. So took it to a shop. At the end guy told me that I need new brakes and rotors (this where replacedin fall) , new winter tires because mine where extremely bad (had 2 week old michellin ice x pro), needed new clutch along with new transmission fluid, coolant and brake fluids. He told me that it's a common job for a car with such high mileage (my car had around 55000km or 34375miles). I asked him "are you sure that it's all for my Subaru?". He confirmed that it was indeed for my car and because I was driving so much is why so much wear is on my parts. My last question to hime was "is my car still on a lift?", he said "yes". I just went to the front desk where owner was sitting and asked him to go see my car together. Owner was a cool dude and ex truck driver. I was a truck driver at a time and we had good chat about trucking. Got mechanic to list off all of the problems with my car and owner just said "go in my office and wait for me" he lowered my car and told me "sorry about that". Paid my 30$ and left. Reason for it being so cheap is because I brought my own oil and filter. Mechanic thought I was stupid and dint know about my car. My car was last generation in Subaru legacy to come with manual transmission which was in 2015 and I took it to a shop in 2020
I work technical support and occasionally get asked questions for things out of scope. My response is usually "I don't know but I can Google it and see". Most of the time I get responses like "Wait, you can Google that?" and I then go on to teach them how Google can answer most of their questions but to avoid the ads and anything shady. It's like their eyes are finally open for the first time.
Mechanics helped me a lot once I went to a certain shop depending on why my car wouldn’t run very well. They checked it over and didn’t charge me a cent. In fact, they help me push it into a lot behind the shop where they said I could pick it up the next day with no charge. Thanks guys!
I worked in a tech support call centre giving fixes over the phone without remote access. Most of the time, we'd just google the problem and work through fixes that couldn't be solved with basic trouble shooting. Instructing boomers & Karens on how to set up wireless printers and sound systems were absolute hell.
I don’t know what it is about some mechanics that think women don’t know anything about cars. I went through 2 mechanics to finally get to a good one that took me seriously. Boyfriend and most of my friends have taught me about cars, you talk to me like I’m stupid or rip me off then I’m gone
the mechanic one made me think about something similar for me. in my country we have to get warrants for our cars (a cert of fitness) every 12 months. one car I had was pulled up on a faulty steering. When I got my dad to look at it he said there was nothing wrong with it. I went back and it passed on retest without an issue. I then laid a complaint to which the response was "bring me the part that was in question and we will have a look" I responded "you can see it right now. its on the car and you just passed it." he was pretty dumb founded.
GF: *Wants Airpods*
Also GF: *Doesn't like Airpods*
My sister in Christ, you *asked for the Airpods*
I love r/pettyrevenge bc there's always like 5+ stories and 5+ small stories is better than 1-3 longer stories
Scam shops or why I pretty much always do my own oil changes. I remember years ago I took it to one place, where the “mechanic“ tried to say my oil was dirty or something.
I literally watched him knock some dust/dirt off the edge/rim off the oil cap opening into the oil!
Needless to say I called BS and never went back to that place!
I worked at a shop. I used to tell people when their shocks were screwed. They never listened to me.
I heard somewhere that even if you DIY car maintenance, it's good to take your car in for an oil change and safety inspection, cause then you can take a look at the stuff they suggest needing fixed.
The first story made me think of the refrain in an old blues tune: She's gone, but I don't worry. I'm sittin' on top of the world.
I was laid off of a very well known bank in 2012. My office was #2 in the entire company. I was doing r
4 people jobs getting paid for one. They decided to lay me and several others off and move our positions to different states. 10 years later, im in a dream job, every person I supported is done and gone, moved departments or left completely and the person who took my job over left the bank also within weeks. It wasn't for the faint of heart and I'm still told by many they miss me. I just did things I knew how to, to make everyone's life easier. Now they are the lowest in this area of the US and other offices have quite literally surpassed them because they have my position in office and not out of state. I know a bit storage brand that left the bank because I no longer serviced them. Oh well. Too bad so sad.

There's having receipts and what OP did, HAVING LITERAL RECEIPTS! just to avoid getting scammed by a sexist mechanic.
Turns out the "Boomer helper" is very important
Let's all say it together now "DON'T MESS WITH THE IT GUY!"
hell yeah been on an Disney world bing after watching a kid turn to the dark side so this is making my day.
Who buys their college or highschool-aged girlfriend such expensive gifts? What culture is it that the woman feels so entitled to the man's money? Crazy.
That blonde girl and the garage story, is the reason why I have used the same garage since’87. I trust them and they are good friends, so it’s worth the trip to their garage.
Anything that involves mechanic work on my car I go through my step-dad first - he inspects my car and tells me what needs to be done if he can't do it himself. If I go to a shop and they try to tell me I need to spend extra money on the "best break pads" or need to spend extra on random things that I don't think sounds right, I say "Here is my dad's number, call him and clear it with it him. I'm here for 1 thing and 1 thing only, if he says I need it then I'll get it." Half the time they wouldn't do it and I get my 1 thing.
The Flight of Passage is amazing. A extended family member who works at Disney says it's Soarin' on steroids
I was given the runaround by some shady mechanics before too. My first car was a '93 Mustang that lasted me a few years. Eventually, I was having issues with it, so my father recommended a place to take it to. I brought it there, and called to check in on it every now and then. They started giving me the runaround and telling me various things wrong with the car, and even making up parts that didn't exist. This lasted for like 2-3 weeks. I later found out from a coworker of mine at the time that drove by there every day on the way to work, they never even looked at my car. It sat in the same spot every day she drove past. So I called up a tow driver and had it brought somewhere else, where they got it fixed in like two days. Thankfully, the first place didn't try and charge me for anything, but I would have told them where to shove it if they had.
That time my dad asked me to help with ‘a broken monitor’ and he’d simply moved the window halfway off the screen lmao
Not afraid of saying the company. Big O Tires... Had, at the time, 8000 miles on my new engine with 103,000 miles on the car. The guy came in saying I needed all new fluids including brake and radiator (brake being also the clutch in my car which was replaced not too long before). I listened to his crap and in the room with about 5 other customers I told him "you're BSing me, that engine was just replaced 8000 miles ago" and yada yada yada. I forced him to admit that he only checked the mileage on the dash and didn't do a proper inspection.
My mom isnt even a boomer, she's elder gen X, and she constantly asks us how to do things. She has a smart phone. She can Google it but refuses to.
My father-in-law is even worse. He asked for a handheld SPELL CHECKER for Christmas. Like one we would have used in the 90s. He also has a smart phone. Dude, you have a spell checker, it's called GOOGLE. USE IT.
I just don't understand the stubbornness and refusal to learn.
Be careful. A lot of younger boomers pretend to be Gen-Xers.
My wife is an ASE certified and Mazda certified mechanic, Mazda due to the affinity to rebuild rotary engines.
She took in our 1996 Nissan Silvia (Kouki) which is from Japan. She had a very similar experience. The police were called due to me just happening to take photos under the hood from a car show 48 hours earlier. I showed up about 2 minutes before the police did. They were charged with FELONY fraud.
Was taken into the shop over a cracked radiator, 800 miles from home for a car week. I had the other car we took for the week, a 2005 Mitsubishi Lamcer Evolution VIII MR.

A big garage did tried to scam me. I was there for a obviously noisy bearing driver side needing to be replaced. After their "tests" They told me both side need to be replaced plus suspension parts and brake pads. Note that I got only money for the bearing I need to replace. "I don't know how you've made that list, but I'm here only for that part. The rest is either good or I'll replace the brake pads myself at my next oil change.'' I knew before going there my brake pads were still ok untill the next oil change.
that third story has to be in a jiffy lube....same exact thing happened to me, but I fell for it, they ruined my transmission by taking apart my entire car, and my engine caught fire while I was driving.
As an ex mechanic, I actually quit because of the scumbag mechanics that would rip unknowing people off. It literally made me sick.
The third story. A similar thing happened to my sister, her stereo wasn’t working so she went somewhere to get it fixed. They said it was completely broken and she needed to get a new one. It was literally just unplugged.
I Use to work in an Office where they would daily receive a ton of scanned PDF’s, and actually print them just to manually re-type the information in Word.
Im no tec-wiz but they sure thought I was when I asked them why they didn’t just convert to word, and then copy/past the text.
Love getting the alerts for new videos, it gives me a break from my games lol.
The last story about your wife was my favorite. So based.
Im an Army vet and am big on helping Vets who start businesses. By buddy has a friend who opened a shop that we used for car stuff for about a year. I needed an oil change before my family and I went on a road trip. The Vet my friend introduced me to wasn't in that day and his scummy partner helped me.
I know NOTHING about cars, but I know, by study and by trade, a lot about reading people. This guy tells me I have a pinion leak on my 2002 Chevy, power nothing, Cavalier. The car was, at the time, only 4 or 5 years old and hadn't been driven for a year while I was deployed in Iraq. When this guy told me about my "leak" amongst a few other issues that he suggested I not drive it off the lot for, his body language and facial expressions were all off, ticking my BS meter to full max. I was insulted by the lie and told the guy I needed to go get cash to pay for the repairs he suggested, payed for my oil change, and never went back there. The parts guy at my local auto parts store was a mechanic for 20 years and laughed when I told him what was suggested for me. He then said "you didn't pay for that $#!*, did you?
We laughed together as I said No and my next mechanic was a lot better...cheaper too.
3 hours to wait in line for a ride? Thats insane. When I was a kid, of course I went where my parents took me and thats that.. but as an adult with my own money, I simply would not go to amusement parks with such ridiculously long wait times for rides. You kidding me? Spend over half the day waiting in lines. Nope, I'll go to small scale amusement parks like the Ocean City Boardwalk or Lakemont Park in Altoona to go to. Lines are less than 5 minutes each to get on a ride.
The story with the scammer mechanic, damm that just puts a bad name on me and my field a auto technician who actually tries to make it right with the customer and be 100% honest, as I wouldn’t my wife or any of my family to be screwed over. The dealer I previously worked at, I was the most requested tech because I made a friendship with the customer and made sure they were safe at all times and not ever bringing a list of bs repairs, just can’t live with myself if iv don’t ever did that
Yes my brother was a shop mechanic for decades. His customers wouldnt' let anybody else touch their cars because they knew my brother would be honest with them. He'd advise them of must haves and repairs they could expect to do in the near future. Folks really appreciated that.
"Because that's how you solve problems in 2022." Exactly, JFGI.
I also look like a person who doesn't know much about cars. I'm no expert, but I know what all the major parts are and what they do. One time I was getting my oil changed, and the mechanic said I needed some repairs on my radiator.
As in, the radiator I literally just replaced the month before. The car was fifteen years old and there is no way the mechanic didn't notice that the part was brand new. What a tool
That mechanic needs to be arrest. To Karen's poor babies you had to wait so long and missed your ride. As my deceased mother use to say, Tough titty said the kitty but the milk tastes fine."
I used to work as a" maintenance associate" at Walmart in my local town and I have dealt with some pretty gross stuff as a janitor. One of the clean up sticks in my head to this day was the time I had to clean up a literal pallet of maggots. Apparently someone left a pallet of grass seed on the top shelf of an outside Garden Center and it had been up there for so long that the entire thing has towards into maggots so they got me the maintenance associate and the guy from the meat department name Christian to go out there and spend about an hour and a half cleaning up this nightmare there was about no kidding 2 ft "maggot mud" they had gone through so many life cycles that they had turned into just straight slurry of nightmare then my manager bribed us with a free meal and replacement pants for dealing with something that we clearly did not need to do that was early in my career luckily I'm not a janitor anymore.
That mechanic story reminds me of how this one time, my mom took her car in for a couple things because we were going to be going on a road trip, and the mechanic tried to talk her into an oil change, complete with a little egg carton that had oil in the different cups and was like "this is what your oil should look like and this is what it actually looks like" blah blah blah
(That egg carton detail is the part she found most ridiculous)
The catch is, her dad has cars as a hobby and the two of them had recently done an oil change together like, the weekend before
My parents told me to never accept stuff like that at face value, and the garage I specifically go to has some family friends working there. When a coolant leak damaged my engine and I needed some serious repairs, my parents even told me to ask to talk to a specific guy and to name drop my mom
At age 18, I had a full time job & a kid, so I let a mechanic change my brakes. I had to drop it off because they were "so busy". Mom dropped me off to get it on a Sunday, 10 minutes before my shift started & my car wouldn't go. It just put putted down the road. I called my mechanic dad and he told me not to touch it. That man drove 4 hours, lifted my hood, put the wire back on the spark plug & told me it was fixed. That butthole wanted to charge me $800 to "fix my car". I had known how to do the little things, but after that, I learned all I could. I'm now married to a race car mechanic, so we're good. 😆
I am chuckling a lot right now. I'm a gen Xer who has taught Millennials and Zoomers about ctrl+C, ctrl+V, etc. I also taught them various functions in Word and a bunch in Excel and PowerPoint.
While the Boomers grew-up with no computers and the younger generations grew-up with point-and-click we Gen Xers grew-up with computers that only had ctrl+ options - No point and click (actually most of us grew up with function keys, and had little charts across the tops of our keyboards to say which function key did what - ctrl+ was the upgrade).
Granted, the beautiful Millennials and Zoomers have taught me a great deal of computering too - largely social media, etc. So, it has been a fair exchange.
First story: It boggles my mind on how OP wasn't screaming THIEF or explained to the security guards that this girl just stole his earphones. I mean he just bought them, he knows the model and colour.
At least that, or call the police. That was theft through and through. I'd have raised hell on her if she would have stolen my headphones.
Last story..
I would never have come back to that job, as OP said, he could have a say after you left, ”but not before”. I believe, he was in on it and I could never trust a boss like that ever!
2.5 isn't actually bad for flight of passage. It's regular wait time is about 4 hours nowadays. And yes, I have waited in that. I freaking love flight of passage, I will wait in a 4 hour line for it
The mechanic story reminds me of one time that something similarly happened to me. I know cars and normally do the work myself but in this case I just didn't have time to do the work. The work was 1 transmission line needed replaced I took it to a shop near my house the quoted me 2,700! I looked online and found the part was only 300. And that the lime that needed replaced wasn't blocked by anything. It was the easiest thing I ever did on my jeep and took me maybe 40 minutes. I unfortunately couldn't tell them off because they had taken it apart and plus if you say you got someone cheaper, mechanics will put thread locker on the bolts lamo. I just told him I don't have the money and I'll have to come back. 3 years later I've never gone back there once lol
I had a boomer boss... she used to move windows to other screens by resizing them... until I showed her that she could just grab the top of the window and drag it
Another great day waking and baking with rslash
Never Mess With The IT Guy
Dude. That last boss. That dude knows how to handel a situation.
Once I bought a 2 year old truck and noticed it needed a shock absorber, tie rods and possibly the wheels bearing. I decided to change everything by myself and took the car for alignment, the guy in the shop knew me and asked I had just bought the truck, I told him yes and wanted it to have it align because it pull to a side in the highway. 15 minuetes later he called and said he tried to align it but that the shock absorber, the tie rod and the wheels bearing was shot and needed to change it asap. I said that I didn’t have the money and only to align it as best as he could, he was like “uhhh, I got all the parts in stock and could give you a bargain and it’s not safe at all to drive like that”.
I called the owner and told her to look the boxes in the back seat ( of All the part I installed ) She automatically knew what was happening, and apologize to me and didn’t charge for the alignment after someone else did it, the scammer was probably fired because I never saw him again
My parents are both retired and while my mom is still fit and healthy, she does have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to technology, but she's not unwilling to learn. My dad, on the other had, had a stroke in 2002 and has declined physically ever since. Today he struggles with touch screens because of his tremors and no amount of feedback correction we do on his devices helps. I've even gone so far as to install AnyDesk on their laptop so that I can remotely help them with Netflix and CZcams from my home or office. I'm saving up to buy them a Smart TV or even a FireStick. Unfortunately, our economy is so bad that a decent TV Box or FireStick is wildly expensive and a decent sized Smart TV is also a bit outside my paygrade at the moment.
I’m a tech at a Ford dealership. We do videos to physically show each customer what we can see on their vehicle. It’s a great system.
False repair scams should be illegal they make people less likely to consider emergency repairs. Even when it's actually needed.
I love this video because I work at that Flight of Passage ride and you bet I would 100% do that
I was working on my best friend's Bmw 2002 325i while he was overseas. The axle needed to be replaced. I was almost done when I noticed two of the axle bolts needed to be replaced which put me into a position to order two new ones from BMW passport. I told them the serial number and the length they needed to be. I drove up after they told me my order was ready and when I got there they gave me axle bolts that were not only a different serial number but they were also very short. I mentioned this to the gentleman at the desk and he suddenly pulled up a picture of where the axle bolts go and started explaining it slowly. It was a hot summer day and I was in no mood for this butthole so I cut him off and said "I know what they are and where they go it saids it all in the name, what I need is the CORRECT ones that go to MY BMW because these are WRONG". I pointed out what I requested and he saw then clearly the bolts I have won't work and got the correct ones for me. When he asked if there was anything else of course with no apology for how he spoke to me I responded "sir you couldn't tell the difference between what I requested for my BMW and the once you tried to give me, which clearly are different in length and serial number do you think I can trust you with anything else when you messed up on something so simple like this?"
