      @montrelouisebohon-harris7023 Před 4 lety +3

      Yesss! Roger is incredible and he and Fred sang most of the songs in their live shows. they had to save their voices somehow and people ask why Queen didn't do a lot of their operatic versions live and it's because it's extremely hard with a two hour show underneath those hot lights. I started playing musical instruments when I was 10 years old and started singing when I was around 10 or 11 and Stevie Nicks was my first vocal coach. I would listen to Rumours over and over again and when I was 16 I audition for Oliver Twist because I wanted a chorus part in the play. Damn! I was so ignorant to theater that I had no idea what callbacks were and Oliver Twist is a male play with only 4 female parts. I was only a kid and said, "what the hell." I won't get anything anyway but all I wanted was to get in the chorus and the four women that didn't get parts in the musical were automatically put in the chorus anyway.
      Dammit! We had open auditions singing and acting reading lines in front of everybody and I was one of the youngest in the bunch. I was 16 and another girl was 15. ( both of us got Parts in the show btw) & these 20 and 30 year old women who had been in Broadway and musical theater for life were giving us dirty looks.
      The next day I went to read the board to see who was posted and I was expecting to see myself as a possible character because of what the director said to me after my audition but I wasn't expecting the damn lead!! Those women were vicious and they hated my guts!! We started rehearsing in March and when I got up on the stage alone and sing my heart out I must have earned their respect because from that day forward they were kind to me and most gracious. Stage makeup is horrible and it will break your face out if you don't wash it off and those lights are extremely hot!!! We didn't have microphones either so when we sang and spoke our lines we had to have loud voices to reach the very back of the theater..it is hard!

      Studio versions are fantastic but I believe that live versions really show people what bands have true talent and what bands need to be done over and over and auto tuned to make the song worth listening to. I know all bands have to have that perfect version for the album (CD's now) or for the radio but if they can't get it almost as perfect live then they really aren't that great. Some bands like Queen, The Beatles, The Bee Gees had this unspoken language where with just a look or wink or movement they all understood what to do that only the best can do. Not many bands can be put into that category. They also had a strong yearning to connect with their fans, wanting them to participate in the songs, feel like one of them, which is why they have such a huge fan base.

You just don't get this at a Taylor Swift or Justin Beiber concert. This version is more rocking than the original and that Red Special just sounds so..... throaty and chorusy, just amazing. Don't sweat the lack of shred, just listen to that full rhythm guitar sound. Huge. Everything about this band is unique. Hammer to Fall from the same concert is also fantastic. Thank you for doing this! If you want a more emotional song with Brian and Roger singing lead, you should watch the official video (necessary, not just the lyrics) for "No One But You (Only the Good Die Young)". It's their tribute to Freddie 7 years or so after his death and the last time John Deacon appeared with Queen. It's definitely sad though. They use lyrics from a handful of their old songs as little easter eggs. Even sadder is Freddie's last music video for "These Are the Days of Our Lives". It was recorded months before he died, and he was in so much pain that he could barely walk but he still pushed through. Even if you don't react to that, I think every Queen fan needs to see it. Another cool (and happier, though Freddie still looks frail) music video from '91 is "I'm Going Slightly Mad", which is super-trippy and apparently inspired by how Freddie felt on medication. It's super-catchy though. Live show wise, I'd go with "Who Wants to Live Forever" at Budapest in '86 (same concert series - this was their last tour), "Save Me" from Montreal, or "Dragon Attack" from Montreal. I know you haven't heard the studios for Who Wants to Live Forever or Save Me but the live versions are so amazing that it's not necessary. :)

      new mercury yes! I saw Roger talking about this in an interview also! He drove them nuts playing it over & over but then forgot it over dinner & most likely a few drinks. His hook inspired the song. Roger also said he loved performing it live even though it’s lower in a lot of the parts than his normal range so he can’t get as much vocal power. For @Andy, Brian has said in interviews that during the creative process of this song there were so many strong personalities that someone had to back off & that, unusual for him, he was the one to back off....hence no guitar solo. I don’t believe they ever performed it again with Bowie other than the recording.

    As for “Brian not shredding” in this song - One of Brian May’s greatest and most under appreciated traits is his focus on musicality. In other words, he played what the SONG needed, not what would give him the most notice. Yes, he can certainly wail when it’s called for as he does in many songs, but it’s never show for show sake like so many other guitarists. It’s why I never get tired of hearing Queen live. Now go back and listen again and focus on the guitar. You’ll notice he does much more than just strum along. He literally DRIVES the song as it goes through the various changes. IMHO Brian May is the best guitarist in rock history in terms of musicality. And he can shred with the best of them too.

    One of my favorites! I sat with a smile on my face and my body moving to the beat. A die hard Queen/Freddie fan absolutely cannot sit still when the band performs and there are few exceptions when a smile is not present. Their albums are great but they truly shine in concert! They made sure their fans got their very best on stage.

      @@andyandalex You should do a chair special. I can see it now - the launch of the chair, featured solo in a spotlight accompanied by Queen's song Flash. Would be epic.

    Couldn't go to bed without watching your reaction to Under Pressure. Always enjoy watching you enjoy Queen. I agree with others saying you should check out the studio version with Bowie at some point. It always gets me no matter which version though, basically from "Can't we give ourselves one more chance" through to the end. I'll never grow tired of this song and can't not sing along and feel every word of it. ✌

    This song was co-written by David Bowie and Queen. The album version and video is a duet. Vanilla Ice ripped off the intro without crediting Queen and Bowie. Queen and Bowie sued him and won. He had to include them in the writing credits and pay them.

  • @headrushindi

    This song was of course originally a duet with David Bowie, it never really translated as well as other songs in a live environment but was still driving and very QUEEN

    I had to pause it 20 seconds after Freddie started singing. He just took Wembley stadium for an operatic vocal prelude that was amazing and then seamlessly and flawlessly goes into Under Pressure and kills it. How can anyone who is just discovering the endless sea of talent in this band not believe that Freddie was one of if not the greatest live showman to grace music and theater together from medieval times to the far future. He is up there with a very select few performers that graced us throughout history. Cheers. From the canadian Queen nut.
