    I'm weird because I really care about my own performance, but I would prefer my teammates to be nice and I really don't care what they parse so long as we can clear. I can join parse runs in PF if I want to boost my numbers, but for learning the fights I flourish in an environment where I am respected and valued, which was certainly not the case in my first static. So I joined a static which has been together for years and have really close-knit bonds, and no one yells at me or makes me cry or tells me I'm shit, and I perform better because I'm not stressed and afraid of messing up, so we all win. :)

      Wanted to do High-End Content ever since ARR but i am too afraid of commitment and expectations and all that what might come at me through statics... But I am also afraid of PF for all the negative stuff I have heard about it. Now I am simply stuck not doing these things for every Expansion... Coming from a WoW Raid environment I expect it to be stressfull and requireing a lot of time and preparation commitment and fixed times a week to show up etc etc - And I really do not want to go back to this kinda "life" again ._.

      I pf on Crystal whenever I can and it is a largely positive experience even on a server with such a negative reputation. Blind prog or fresh prog parties work out so much better than "clear" parties - people overestimate their own capabilities in those and they are pretty frustrating and miserable.

      That's not weird or shouldn't be. Contrary to popular opinion you don't have to be a jerk to do well in a game or to care about your own performance. And really being nice to your teammates improves your chances of succeeding-- it's not necessary or even helpful to be a jerk or overly critical to your party members.

    I understand that she's speaking from her own experience of PFs and Statics, but I feel the need to step in and justify more pros of the PF.
    1. Scheduling and synergy.
    Getting 8 people's schedules on the timeline consistently is a difficult feat. Let alone 8 people that can positively work together. PF allows for a lower level of commitment and playing adheres to your own schedule.
    2. Advantage to drop in drop out play.
    In PF there's plenty of description as to what kind of party you are joining. Typically parties will describe what stage of the fight they are on:
    - "Prog *stage of fight/ability name*")
    - There's plenty of Practice and đŸŒ± friendly groups.
    - "Enrage or Clear" parties generally have made it through all the mechanics and seen enrage (enrage means the boss will kill all players and is essentially a time limit to the fight).
    Some groups will even specify "no salt progression" if the main concern is to progress without the fear of bad attitudes.
    3. Trying to find a static with friends.
    (This is purely from my own experience, and the times we were looking for are odd hours).
    Finding statics that are looking for multiple people was difficult. Most were looking for only 1 person. So all the more power to you if you're looking for 1 slot.
    4. Finding friends in PF.
    Some PFs will offer or mandate a discord. In the current savage tier there are great places to meet others who might have the same progression mindset as you. Most of the time these discords are meant to facilitate communication and explain mechanics.
    Don't fear the Party Finder. There's plenty of benefits to it, just like there's benefits to having a static!

    • @toychristopher
      @toychristopher Pƙed 2 lety +1

      The Party Finder can be great! I get that some have had bad experiences but you can have bad experiences in statics too, and those are often a lot harder to resolve than just leaving group.

    I always remember years ago I was in my first raid team doing coil. One of the guys who was filling in for the night said to me that I wasn't playing my class as well as I could and if I ever wanted help to hit him up. Now a lot of people in this game seem to get but hurt when they hear this. I took him up on the offer we went on a discord call (May have been teamspeak) and practiced on a striking dummy and it made a huge difference not only my dps at the time but how I approach raiding in general. So any group I've ever been in I've always tried to stress don't get upset if your dps isn't the highest and your struggling chances are there is someone else in your team that might know how to help you out try not to take it personal

    Definitely yes, I went through Eden Promise with PF. It’s no static consistency but the freedom of doing content whenever you want feels great. Also it’s a nice way to challenge and practice yourself since you have to babysit yourself and look out for mechanics without a caller. I don’t like the feelings of helplessness after raiding with static in a tier and then putting myself in a pug. With each tier of raiding I want to master every fight by doing it with pug, not messing up any mechanic myself and clearing as all roles. With static you cannot do that. The game’s raid is more about personal mastery than loots and power level, and I like that.
    Another thing that requires mastery in PF is people skill. How to be diplomatic, supportive and dealing with bullies, because we can’t avoid them. To me doing PF raiding gives me something that a clear never does: positive reputation amongst the community. People know my name and I remember those who have been positive and we greet each other occasionally when crossworld hunting. PF raiding certainly will teach you to be patient and consistent. And now with the game’s community greatly expanded, PFing will be easy because the savage raid will be relevant for a long time as people with different level of commitment and skills will stagger out clear time more. It’s not like WoW when if you didn’t clear it first week you never clear because people gatekeep with achievements to force you to buy clear, no no FF14 is completely different. It’s all about mastery, skills and diplomacy.

    I've always been a person who played in organized guilds in other MMOs so being my first tier in FFXIV I decided to make a post on reddit looking for a static and even though I had no prior experience that I would give it my all as a player and be a good contributor to the team , I got a message from someone the next day and we all met up and did some normal runs the weekend before savage came out and they were all super nice people and had the same goals. Since then I am now their main tank and we're progressing at a fairly good pace and are on track to clear P1S this tuesday and move on to the next bosses! I feel like being in a consistent group is super important for progression because everyone is on the same page and you can be in voice and constantly have communication going on where in pugs its hit or miss.

  • @tenaar
    @tenaar Pƙed 2 lety +19

    I think yes. PF raiding forces you to learn the fights way more intimately than static raiding; there are no callouts, there is very little communication happening in game during combat. It's your personal responsibility to learn the fight, know the tells and understand what's going on. This can only improve your performance in a static environment & make you less of a liability in the fight, either from mistakes like wrong callouts, people getting mechanics confused, Triangle of Trust having a brain fart, etc.
    Even if your PF groups suck, you still gain valuable experiences in what not to do now, and what to avoid doing in the future. Barring the increased risk of abuse, there's virtually no downside to raiding in PF. You can even raid at your own pace, instead of being confined to 2-3 raid nights a week, if that many.
    I think PF raiding & strats only start getting in the way once you're in an optimised environment, but if you're raiding at that level, you're probably not using PF anyway...
    It's probably going to be a frustrating experience regardless, though :P

      You say that, but then everyone just follows the posted macro and rigidly sticks to their position regardless of whether they could adjust to avoid a wipe because someone else was slightly out of position.
      PF groups are not learning mechanics, they're following instructions and thinking that they're "learning".

    • @tenaar
      @tenaar Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@Reinforce_Zwei My most common problem in PFs are people overcompensating for people trying to get out of their way with AoE markers & similar, ending up running in the same direction because they both stop at the same time when trying to let each other pass. I don't think I've ever seen a practice party in XIV down a boss with only a macro & no understanding of the mechanics at play. That's just not how the game works!
      The issue you described is way more common in farm parties where everyone knows the fight well & are moving on auto pilot, which happens all the time. All it takes is one cog being slightly weaker than the rest.

    My static recently fell apart, and so I've been forced into using PF and I hate every agonizing second of it. Biggest hurdle is the fact PF doesn't value learning the fights, they value learning a way to complete the fight. So when something goes wrong or somebody needs to adjust, vast majority of the players in PF just cannot do that. They are following a battle plan set in stone with no external thought process going out for when things go south, leading into wipes and frustration for everybody involved.
    If only people valued learning and not following a guide by someone else. We would all be better players.

I get incredibly stressed when I mess up a lot and feel like I'm holding back the team, and there are so many mechanics that I haven't had the time to master from old fights, so when they show up now, I'm way slower than most to learn them. I would also love to find a group of "raid sprouts", but being on Korean time doesn't help, lol.

      I totally get what you are saying, but the only way to improve is to just try the harder content. You will learn so much from other players if you just observe and ask for help.
      This week I cleared my first savage raid (A3) with a group full of new players, who were all going in blind. And also my first extreme trial with no echo and min ilvl.
      Just let everyone know that you are new, have never done it before and dont know the tactics - and that you can leave if they dont want that.
      Both groups were happy to teach me and even though I felt like I was letting the entire party down at times, when we finally got the clears it felt awesome.

      @@ulrikmller3161 I get your point, but as someone who only recently started playing this year, and hasn't even mastered old mechanics, it can be super stressful being the one person who consistently dies because you're trying to remember both old and new mechanics. Being a slow learner in top of that makes it really sucky when you can tell everyone else is getting frustrated about it. Not everyone can just jump in and learn from trial by fire. Since my last post, I've had a few higher level friends go through older dungeons with me and help teach me some mechanics, and now I feel way more comfortable trying new stuff. But with the way things were before that, I was 10x more likely to just avoid harder content.

      Yeah I used to be so afraid of doing ANY hard content, I said I’d never do an EX trial, then I saw the cool mounts and ended up doing ALL EX’s so I could get the super mount you get after doing them all, then after that I said i’d never do Savage, but after doing EX for so long I wanted to try what was next up in the chain of “hard content” and I enjoy the challenge from Savage raids a lot, I don’t do it for the gear, just for the experience. Now I look at EX’s and I always think about how I used to be scared of them. Whenever or if you ever do stuff like EX or Savage you can either try and set up a casual static and get others like you who might want to try harder stuff but are scared of the pressure of others, or go in Party Finder and just set up fresh practice groups and state in the party finder that it is a fresh practice group and you don’t want any toxicity and you want to learn (this is usually what I do but be warned that not everyone actually READS the party finder group info every single time, they might just see that you set up a Party Finder for a specific trial or whatever and join just with that knowledge, which is one of the more frustrating things about Party Finder.) But don’t be afraid! EVERYONE messes up sometimes in ALL content, even the easy stuff sometimes!

For the most part, they contain the most tempered and patient players who don't expect to get a kill; they're just looking to understand the mechanics and get the boss down as far as possible while helping others with what they may be having troubles with in an encounter. I think you should at least look up the bare minimum of the encounter before joining any PF group, but as long as you do that, don't be afraid to join a practice group. Since starting raiding in SB close to half of my groups have actually downed bosses. I used the duty finder to do my first ever raid in FFXIV yesterday. It was Labyrinth of the Ancients (I'm level 55 at the moment), which is required to get to my next ARR MSQ. It was terrifying! I'm pretty sure I died more than anyone else and I didn't know how to tell what group I was in so I just kinda went anywhere until near the end lol, but it was still super fun! Everyone was really nice and literally no toxicity at all, from my pov anyway. I could maybe see how the joking side bets on the amount of deaths in each encounter could be seen as toxic lol but it seemed like it was all light hearted to me. Only one wipe!

    19:18 This is definitely true. Not only for the hardcore-minded person in a casual group, but for the casual people in it too! I'm casual minded for raiding, I really just want to get better and get a clear in a non-stressful way and slowly work my way towards being more hardcore about it in the future. When there's someone making comments like "oh my parse i garbage, I'm not even doing any damage, I just screwed my rotation I'm so bad at this"...when the person is doing fine for prog in a casual minded group it's really frustrating to hear. I really have to stop myself from starting a fight and asking them to shut up about their parse when I'm trying to learn mechanics and not even thinking about damage yet. The majority of people must be following the same mindset for it to work, else it's going to turn it into a job showing up every week to prog and have to deal with this, and that's not what a casual group is looking for.

      Nah sorry, if you can't learn a mechanic while keeping a stable(not saying perfect) rotation and dps output, then you're in the wrong content.
      You can learn how to do that in Extreme trials then come up and play with the big girls and boys in Savage tier after you're competent.

    I would like to attempt some raiding, but I have a horrible time using party finder. My groups almost always have people leaving after 3 or 4 wipes, combined with taking 30ish minutes to fill, this means I spend at least 70% of any raiding/extreme attempt waiting for people, and this is deeply frustrating.
    I've tried asking around on Discord to join or form a static, but it never seems to go anywhere. People stop responding, don't show up, delete their discord account randomly. etc.
    I just do not understand what I'm doing wrong.

    • @adognamedsally
      @adognamedsally Pƙed 2 lety

      You're not doing anything wrong. People are not very patient right now and everyone is frustrated. Right now, my best strat is to list the party as "disband after 3 wipes to early mechanics." It tends to attract more serious players. However, you'll still spend 30-40 minutes waiting for a party to fill.
      I've been thinking about gearing out my tank because that tends to be the shortage right now, but I haven't actually gone through with that. Overall, I think the experience is just really bad right now.

    This is strictly talking about pf on EU servers, I am told quality of pf players on JP and NA tends to be a lot higher.
    If you want to beat all raids week 1, then I would ask you another question. Would you or do you enter lotteries?
    If you answered yes, then pf is for you
    If you answered no, get a static
    I was keeping my eye on pf week 1 to see their progress out of curiousity (despite being in a static), by around thursday there was still 0 p4s pf's in sight whenever i checked and all I could see was p3s practise parties or lower. After I killed p4s on the Sunday literally there was just 2 p4s pfs and both were phase 1 practise parties. I didn't start seeing p4s kill pfs until week 2, and even then there was only 1 or 2 of them. This is basically why I say, getting a p4s kill in pf week 1 is gonna be like a lottery, the chance that you actually get into one on your role before somebody else + actually have enough luck to get a good enough team to kill it are about the same as it would be to win a lottery.
    Assuming you don't care about getting all kills week 1, then pf isn't bad if you make yourself the pf leader and just kick the people that are cucking your group

    If u want to clear the content the fastest go through party finder. The main reason is you can move on to the “next phase” when your ready, leaving the other players behind. You also have full control on the time you invest. In static groups you are limited to the schedule of your group. Clearing fights here for me always feel under whelming, its usually more like “about time” then it is “i did it”
    If you want to have fun do it in a static its a very intimate process of teaching a peer a fight, figuring out strats with a group, questioning why dps checks arent hit. When you achieve in the win in statics you cheer, you hollar, you talk about the achievement on how x and y saved the fight or almost wiped the attempt.
    My own opinion obviously, my group does statics and pugs after the last raid day for anyone who is gear hungry or impatient. This usually makes the journey easier for our less performing players as the puggers come back with strats or gear.

    I will never be a raider - playing on controller where my double crossbars mean I press the wrong buttons if I don't double tap the trigger correctly. I also don't have the brain capacity to be on 100% the entire fights, so mistakes are inevitible. Like, I can know the mechanics inside and out and still mess up and to be the one that causes raid wipes is so terrifying that I'd never want to bother a group with my less than stellar skills. And that's not unwarranted fear - I've done extreme farms and been bitched out of about half of them for weighing the group down.
    Plus, I'm not like the Soulsborne players that love doing a boss battle over and over for hours/days until I succeed. I get too frustrated with that.

But recently when I have joined parties that lock you out if you havent cleared before (and advertise themselves as farm parties) then usually things go alright. What puts me off the most about PF is just people with bad attitudes, cuz it feels like there's always at least one. And I get that spending a lot of time in PF can make you irritable but idk... It went surprisingly well! The fight is really hard, but I had a lot of fun learning it. The downside... is that people kept dropping every 30 minutes or hour in, and we kept getting people who, like me, were doing it for the first time. Which on one hand is great that people are interested in old content, but it really halted progress. We went on for three and a half hours and made it past the halfway point of the fight one time. The party leader and I are friends in game now, and I hope to give it another try with them in the future.
    Sadly, my work schedule is COMPLETELY inconsistent, so I don't think a static will work for me right now. I'm excited to eventually get to the point of doing current content raiding, getting a static, and hopefully going back to do old content together, too.

    She's right that the quality of players in party finder is much better the earlier you do it. I hear a lot of horror stories about P3S in party finder but I was fortunate to clear it relatively quickly with a good pf group. After that, there was a very small group of people actively trying to clear P4S in party finder and they were generally really good players. I was able to get the clear for P4S in party finder but it was honestly closer to a temporary static with some rotating members because of how small the population was.
    The dps checks on P4S are tight enough that you need basically zero deaths or damage downs even with pentamelded gear and yet the pf group I was in was consistently getting to phase 2 within 2-3 pulls every time so we always had 100+ minute instances to practice phase 2. I can't imagine a pf group being that consistent near the end of a raid tier.
