FINALLY UPDATED! | 2024 Mazda MX 5 INFOTAINMENT REVIEW

This is a companion video to the full review we did on the all new refreshed 2024 Mazda MX-5 MANUAL GS-P ("Club Sport"). I now love this little car and think it is the most engaging driving experience money can buy (that you can still somewhat use everyday and that doesn't cost more than condo). And now, I want to show you that the infotainment has finally been updated to modern standards! Appl...
This car shocked me! 2024 Mazda MX-5 Manual Full Review
zhlédnutí 20KPřed měsícem
I go to Mazda Canada to pick up a new refreshed 2024 MX-5 Manual for the week. I was blessed last year to be able to borrow an RF, which I thought I'd prefer since I own a small light weight coupe, but I jumped at the opportunity to drive the car that shocked me in refreshed convertible form this year! I never understood why people liked this unassuming, relatively inexpensive little sports car...

I go to Subaru of London to review the 2024 WRX TR (RS here in Canada) to see if the price jump is worth it. I remember the "TR" from the early 2000's when is was made for younger car enthusiasts like myself. We just wanted the price low enough to get into the car and we'd worry about tuning it after myself. Whereas now, the "TR" is one of the most expensive trims and comes stock with a lot of ...

I go to Subaru of London to review the 2024 WRX GT SPT automatic to see if a CVT WRX is still engaging to drive, or if they sold out. I have a good feeling it will be still be fun to drive, because I got the chance to test the Outback Wilderness with a similar transmission and was pleasantly surprised. A special thanks to all our Subscribers who help keep us going and to Subaru of London for le...

Nice review James. In NZ there is same problem with charging stations. Also govt has just introduced $76 per 1000 km road user tax.
😮 that is crazy
It’s not sports injected but gas direct injection and the brakes on the si work extremely well
Wiki: The Si (Sport Injected) trim was introduced for the third generation of Honda Civics in both Japan and North America. In Canada and elsewhere, the trim became known as the SiR for the sixth and seventh generations as the "Si" badge was used for the equivalent to the USDM Civic EX model. The brakes work great but the WRX and other competitors in this segment have upgraded brakes being a sporty version of the car.
I have a 2024 mx5 with 8.8 screen but I can’t use touch on it and I don’t have the option to enable it , why? The car region is Asian-Middle eastern .. I don’t know if the region have anything to do with it because we all have the same screen
Off topic, but I’m a big fan of boxer engines, which keep coming to mind with the BRZ references. I would have been very interested in a sedan with a powerful boxer (maybe six cylinder), a manual transmission, and comfort oriented suspension, rather than a sports tuned one. Well Subaru does not offer that, and it sounds like with this BRZ, it’s is not stable, despite having a boxer and AWD. Not sure what’s the issue with Subaru, but with a boxer they have so much going for them, if only they’d get their act together.
I really like them too and I'm lucky because mine has both port and direct injection to help mitigate the carbon buildup issues with direct injection only. My car handles like a Ferrari but in the winter on the highway it's a little sketchy lol. And the BRZ is Subaru's only RWD car which makes it fun but not the best in deeper snow.
@@Neutralreviews Honestly, I’m not that familiar with engine design, but will look up what that means. My main experience, and the basis of my interest in boxer engines, is that for a long time my only transportation was a BMW motorcycle with a boxer engine. It was a 2010 models year, and only used oil and air for cooling (then in 2013, they introduced liquid cooling). It was a very quirky engine that sounded sort of like a sewing machine, and the big cylinders sticking out the side could handle low speed tip overs without an issue. Several times I had dropped the bike doing a u-turn on a hill, and to pick it up without fighting gravity, I would rotate it on one of its cylinders by 180 degrees. I love that engine layout and think it’s really cool that Subaru uses it in cars, but they either don’t offer the more powerful one with a manual, or if they do, the car is a sports suspension rather than a comfort oriented sedan like the legacy. I always feel an affinity with Subaru drivers because of the boxer engine. (Did not know that Subaru offered any non-AWD vehicle, thank you for the notice.)
I can totally relate to your comment about just liking to shift while your drive. After work I will sometimes drive up the interstate maybe 30m to a Starbucks, really I just enjoy the shifting up and down, not speed, not launching, just interacting with and dictating to the car how it should be working, and having to coordinate the leg and arm movements, when doing so. It’s a very satisfying experience.
Well said 😊
I think your title is missing the name ‘Z4,’ is that correct?
Good one lol. Unfortunately I can't update for a few days or it messes up the algorithm. Thanks!!
@@Neutralreviews No issue, thank you.
I didn’t realize that BMW still made manuals. Am interested to see this review.
They are a dying breed unfortunately but I think enough people complained so they bought back this year before they discontinue it in the next year or so:(
@@Neutralreviews Right, I think most people now don’t know how to operate one, or the traffic is so bad in some of these big cities, that it’s just too laborious. There is also nowadays the big emphasis on launching, drag racing and all this, rather than shifting. At the end of the day, this is all financially motivated, and it must be the costs associated with the development and the manufacturing tooling of these transmissions is just not worth it to these companies. Even some of these motorcycle companies are moving in that direction with ‘shiftless gear changes’ and all of this. To me that’s a big part of the fun is that action of physical engagement with the vehicle. The future trend seems to be more traffic and all this autonomous driving. I’m glad I got a manual before they’re no longer being made.
@@ahmeda.3198 Exactly! Enjoy while you can:)
@@Neutralreviews Thank you, I just got one about a month ago, and I just go driving in the evenings (when I can), just for the sake of driving (and mainly shifting).
Thanks for the video. I'm in Canada and researching between this BMW and Porsche as they are almost in the same price range.
Good question. I can't seem to get my hands on a new Cayman or 911 but since I started the show a couple years ago and started getting the opportunity to drive a lot if different cars I've become a Porsche guy lol. Not always my favourite for looks or sound but they seem built incredibly well and handled like no bodies business. Both are beautiful and fun to drive but for me I think I'd go Porsche (because I love a good handling car - hence my mini van BRZ that handles like a super car lol). Good luck:)
I like the way you were specific (with the numbers) with describing the vehicle.
Thank you. I used to sell cars years ago so as "entertaining" as I try and make it I always want to make sure a lot of information is there for those looking to purchase maybe:)
@@Neutralreviews Right on man. That 392 accelerates from zero with violence!!!
@@William-s3h 🤣yep
You touched on this a little. You are not the only guy who praised this car's manual. Did BMW put the Supra's manual transmission in this? It would make a lot of sense since it's the same platform. I was ready to buy a 2023 M2 but man, that manual was not up to par, certainly nothing like the 2021 Cayman I had driven.
Great question. I read that BMW tweaked the transmission for themselves during development but it wasn't clear whose transmission it originally was. I would hate for you to make a decision and be unhappy because of my idea of what feels good for a manual, but that said, it was waaaay better than I was expecting. Not rubbery or loose feeling. To me as good as my BRZ (I realize my car is cheap and slow but many praise the manual). To be fair, the Cayman is my favourite so hard to match. To give you an idea, I have a Mk8 Golf R manual on order and hate the manual feeling on it lol. Worst manual I've used in years (but still better than a manual in my opinion lo) and the BMW felt nothing like that. Tight, notchy, smooth. Hope this helps. Good luck
Such a beautiful car! love that red interior!
Right!! That was one of my favourite parts! Not sure what everyone else's were, but I definitely thought it stood out.
I heard they are going to stop making these next year so I think 2025 will be the last year - that true? Also, if they stop production, does that kill the resale value?
Sadly I heard the same. I think the Z4 was only created so Toyota could bring back the Supra (hence BMW's silence and lack of promotion around the vehicle), but that said, those enthusiasts who appreciate and can afford it will likely drive up the value of the used. I wouldn't think future buyers will see it's product end as a bad thing, but recognize it's end for the cultural change around vehicles that has been happening (gas to EV/vehicle must be a do everything machine - hence BMW's focus on sport SUV's). I have a MK8 manual Golf R on order for this very reason. I'm hoping it will hold it's value because there will be nuts like me out there in a few years that will want a gas powered manual hothatch and won't be able to find one new. Best of luck:)
I was always a big fan of the Z3 and the early Z4s (Bangle Butt era). Of course my favourites were always the manuals and especially the Z3M and Z4M models. I'd stopped paying attention to these cars years ago because, much like the BMW lineup as a whole, it felt like they were no longer pointed at me as an enthusiast, but rather the image-conscious people who were buying the car for the styling and brand cache. It had gotten to the point where the only BMW I cared about anymore was the M2 so it's nice to see BMW add a manual Z4 to the lineup to show us enthusiasts that they haven't completely forgotten their roots.
Great comment. Manuals make everything better!
@@Neutralreviews couldn't agree more! #savethemanuals
Looks like they saved money on the clear coat.
Good one😝
I wish they would have announced this before I bought my base 718. I would have been all over it.
It is awesome but I'm a Porsche guy now I think lol. I like a lot of cars but they seem to do the little things the best. I bet your car handles amazingly.
As a former 981 boxster s 6mt owner who also used own a 2022 civic si and 2015 BMW m235i 6mt (and now own an nd2 Miata and a 2022 gr86 - both manuals) - I get the feeling I’d continue to be impressed by the motor and pass on this for the excessive weight
Wow!! What a lineup at home. I have always been around muscle cars growing up but now I have my BRZ and borrowed some new Miatas I can't go back. Thanks for sharing!
Should have reviewed with the top down!
For audio purposes and the episode's purpose to focus on the manual driving experience I didn't. For anyone looking at this, I mention and link (see in episode around the 6 min mark and description) a FULL review including the parts with the top down (including audio and the actual top opening).
Looks like you really enjoyed reviewing this car!
I did!!! So much fun, especially with the help of the drone operator!! Thanks for commenting
Fantastic review even in 2024
Thank you! One of my favourite cars and a pleasure to make:)
Interesting video - a grownup car from the perspective of a child. Art from Ohio
Not sure if that is a backhanded compliment lol, but I was I child when I sold them new for Chrysler in the early 2000's. I'm in my 40's. Happy to be considered young than old lol.
@@Neutralreviews Well when you describe a perfectly good steering wheel as ugly because it isn't covered with buttons like a PlayStation controller it does make me wonder what is wrong with you. Just think how many cars with beautiful steering wheels that you would consider ugly because it doesn't have a bunch of lame ass buttons all over it.
@@artszabo1015 I hate buttons too, it's just an ugly steering wheel lol. We all have opinions and don't have to agree. I prefer not to make rude comments to strangers. Helps make the world better. Thanks for sharing. It is an amazing vehicle and why I spend the time and money reviewing.
@@Neutralreviews I'm sorry, did I make a rude comment to you? There isn't a cell in my body that wants to deprive you of voicing your opinion. Nor do I have any desire to change your opinion. You are the one that said the steering wheel was ugly because it lacked buttons. I didn't say that - you did. But now you say you hate buttons too. I think you are hearing me in your feelings and not your intellect
@@artszabo1015 I said the steering wheel was "weird and ugly". It is weird because we have been driving with buttons for years now whether you like them or not - hence the definition of weird or strange. It's ugly, because that is my opinion and it has nothing to with buttons. I hate them because I didn't grow up with them, am quite capable of reaching twelve inches to touch it on the dash and prefer a simple design. That said, on a sporty car I prefer a three spoke design and not what they chose. This is the second time you have now said something to provoke a stranger. Why not say "Interesting video - I actually like buttonless steering wheels and why, what do you think?" Maybe you should work on emotional intelligence. In all seriousness for anyone reading this Twitter like thread lol, I in part named the show "Neutral" because the world is increasingly divided and if car people can't get along and treat each other well we are all in real trouble. Please treat people online like you would in person and that is a start. Thanks for watching.
C8 isn’t available with a manual, or as a true convertible.
its a supra

No…the Supra is a Z4!!!!!! They’re not identical and there’s a price difference for a reason.
@@clbernier2and based upon the reviews, the z4 manual BMW M designed is better than the one Toyota tuned. The z4 looks better too.

I live in upstate NY and just got my 2024 2 door sport with the 2.0t for 37k. I love it.
Congrats!! Such an awesome car.
You are an idiot for getting a turbo, get a 3.6, the 3.6 are finally reliable , the 2.0 is Italian crap that blows up
If you’re going produce CVT WRX make it a hybrid as well 🤷🏻♂️
So, you're pushing a brand new engine to the max, and slamming on the brakes as is NOT recommended until everything's broken in?
Agreed but thankfully it's a press car and the reviewers that take them on track tests really beat them up lol. But yes, when buying a car, especially a performance oriented one the break in is critical:)
I think my 2012 RF is better looking!
I was always a fan of that generations look.
It wasnt available in 2012.
How is the Turbo lag compared to the horrible 2022 Tiguan engine?
Good question lol. To be honest I don't really remember but I don't have any lingering thoughts about how laggy it was;)
How often you tell us you drive a BRZ? Yes... 😅 👎
😆
9:30 exactly cars back in the day interior was better it’s like all they focus on nowadays is the exterior
The Infinity QX80 is amazing. We were driving our QX80 when a Dodge Ram slammed head-on into our infinity. Our QX80 went into a spin and slammed into a Dodge Ram that hit us. No person or surface in our QX80 was damaged. Airbags were not needed. How the Infinity QX80 computer system determined airbags weren't needed is shocking.
Glad you are ok and great to hear of a real world example of a safe vehicle:)
The Qx80 computer didn’t recognize the Dodge Ram as a threat.
Miata is always the answer.
Always!
Good review! The Scat Pack is the sweet spot in the Challenger/Charger line up. Great Street Muscle performance 👍
Thank you! And agreed. Great muscle car for the street for sure. It was a tone of fun to review:)
I have the 2019 GLI. Exactly the same car. 5 years of trouble free motoring. No issues. The Honda Civic SI doesn't even come close to the GLI when it comes to performance and comfort. Reliability wise well it's still a VWoA product. Repairs will be pricey. Get the extended warranty. And incidentally I agree about the seats.
Always great to hear from an owner! Warranty is a must! My GTI would have been a nightmare without one once the km started getting up there.
You are driving a club with the brembo ,recaro bbs wheel, package. Nice car! My question to Mazda is why build a package that costs $4500 usd, and the car rolls around corners like a drunken sailor? Stiffen up the suspension to use all the great parts properly. I cant justify the cost of a 24 because of the expence for me to correct the handling issues. Suspension, and exhaust, around $3000 usd. For me, better to buy a 19-21 car. I had a 90, 92 autocross car, and a 93LE. All handled very well.
Interesting!
Even with Bilstein, the car is very soft and doesn’t perform well as it could. I’m thinking about a Ohnlins upgrade, but my ND has just 5 month and 3600km.
What about the actual Bose sound syatem? How does it sound?
I thought it was pretty good, but I'm more about listening to the engine or just enjoying having the roof down lol. It was clear, but it wasn't very boomy. I was impressed with how it sounded through the seat speakers when the roof was down!
I have a 2024 hard top black Sport, crank windows, open the door with a key, remember to turn headlights on and off, 2-door automatic (no manuals available although was first choice). Paid $32,000 new. Love it but it’s just me and the dog. Super fun to drive. For reference, I am Gen X so no spring chick.
Agreed! Super fun vehicle for sure:)
What's with the shitty colors......
I'm thinking about buying a rag top crossfire, I love Mopar, I think the crossfire is outstanding with good looks.
I'm a coupe person but I'm guessing the convertible would be a great driving experience! And it is beautiful.
Picked up a brand new one of these 2 weeks ago, got tired of waiting for the camry i had ordered nearly 2 years ago
Happy for you. What a crazy wait time! Enjoy:)
I think these Chrysler Crossfires were so cool looking ! Thinking of buying one for a daily driver!
They really are! I kept seeing them around and said I have to review one.
