I have the keys to the recently refreshed 2024 VW Atlas Cross Sport Execline R-Line!
The question I want to answer is, did VW ruin their winning SUV sales recipe by by adding a lot more technology to keep up with the Joneses?
The Atlas has never pretended to be anything else other than what it is - an SUV. It was never a lot of fun, but it was easy to live with and a great value, and more screens and a smaller engine may just be the new ingredients to make a winning recipe just alright.
So we take this for a drive to where it will inevitably end up...the hockey arena. We take it for a series of practical tests along the way and then give you our final thoughts, as we take a good old fashioned wrist shot on my poor buddy Moose, because we need to see if this really is still a sure shot another sales success for VW!
    Let's go!
*Please note that I am human and could be wrong on some of my “facts”, but still they give a good idea if considering the vehicle in your shopping.

I like this review and the reviewer - fair, objective and not overly emotionally triggered because this beautiful vehicle doesnt have knobs.
KNOBS ARE DISAPPEARING ON MOST ALL MANUFACTURER MODELS AND MOST ALL MID SIZED SUVS ARE GOING TO TURBO 4 ENGINES!
Sonmany of these reviewers overreact and lose their shyte just because it has no knobs and they trash the whole vehicle - this guy does great and making the point, suggesting that most users will adjust AND MOVING ON with the review.
Hats off to the groundedness of your review decorum, sir!
Love the drive thru test and the slap shot go-no go final analysis!😊

Sorry but the VR6 would last you longer hauling an SUV this size. Have fun while warranty lasts, but all car companies are switching to smaller engines putting small turbos to compensate the power, but in long terms these small engines can’t hold up. That’s why you see lots of older trucks that are V8’s and are driven up going to +300K miles. The bigger the cylinder the longer it can last, but of course it’s all about maintenance and care. But as long as you are happy that’s all that matters. I wish there is an option for a bigger engine because this new Atlas really looks good inside!

Have the suv. And I’ll say the one annoying thing about the suv is the tech. Backup camera flickers. CarPlay crashes none stop. Charging port at times doesn’t charge phone. Plus good luck changing the temperature at night since it’s not backlit lol.

    • @Neutralreviews
      @Neutralreviews  Před 5 měsíci

According to VW.ca a base Cross Sport comes with hill hold and decent control, front autonomous emergency braking, and the top model gets the 360 camera and park assist. I wasn't able to try it but their website says: "Not only is Park Assist† designed to tell you when you’re passing a large enough parking space, it can also steer your vehicle into it. Just operate the clutch, accelerator, and brake and Park Assist is designed to do the rest".

I'm not surprised to see they ditched the V6, even Toyota has gone to 4 cylinder turbos in their larger vehicles like the Highlander.
I do wish they would have reconsidered their decisions for the infotainment though; I've never used the new VW system but I find the lack of physical buttons frustrating. Honda tried that when they first launched HondaLink in 2014, were crucified for it and have since corrected course and brought out one of the best systems on the market. VW has received similar criticism since the MK8 Golf launched but they seem to be committed to pushing the touch capacitive system.

At least they have gone away from touch capacitive controls on the steering wheel. I understand that they are also beginning to backlight the slider controls. For me (and I own a 2024 Cross Sport) that takes care of the major flaws to the recent VW control issues.

VW in their infinite wisdom decided to remove physical knobs which is laughable. The user interface is horrendous. A great way to distract the driver from keeping their eyes on the road. And doing away with the VR6 for a wheezing 4 cylinder engine that is constantly in boost. What a smart move from VW. LOL

It’s just that when people make ignorant comments that don’t accurately describe characteristics of the vehicle in question, I assume that they haven’t actually had firsthand experience with the vehicle. There is nothing “wheezing” about the 4 cylinder engine. It’s virtually the same engine found in the Audi Q5 and the base Audi Q7, only with a few more horsepower. The VW group corporate 4 cylinder actually is a pretty decent engine.

I was pleasantly surprised at the I4. I have a mk7 GTI but it looks like it could fit in the back of the Atlas lol so I was curious. I like the V6 especially in vehicles like this but I get it. It is a world of regulations and budgets.

I own one, the power is surprising. Doesn’t feel like a 4 cylinder at all so I don’t know what people are talking about. If you live in the 90’s I guess this would be too much technology for you. Super easy to adapt, I don’t understand the issue with the technology.

  • @mikevanderveken6028

I have a 2021 Atlas. We love it, but for one thing the technology is sh!t. The space is amazing. Third row amazing space. My brother-in-law has a suburban. That third row is garbage compared to the VW. The handling is amazing. The VR6 motor is nice, but the transmission has a distinct lag. But for the darn info system, it is what vexes me. I hate it so much. I hate the digital display. I hate the non tactile digital controls. I hate that I can't shut off the traction control. I hate that darn engine shut off at lights(very dangerous when attempting to merge in stop and go traffic). Why can't I buy a vehicle without all these so-called options. We are selling our Atlas because of these issues and we will be buying an older Toyota or Lexus.
