The most beautiful thing about this scene was that it got me to recognize how good Robert Guillaume really was. My Mom liked Benson but I didnt see him as more than that and it was boring to me as a kid. Not only that but many black actors of the day had almost subdued roles on TV and in certain movies unless the movie was ABOUT racial issues. Morgan Freeman has such a powerful screen presence I could easily see him overpowering Robert. But that didnt happen. For every escalation of the intensity, and with impassioned subject matter, Robert could run right over the top of Morgan, which made the scene twice as good. I didnt know Robert had it in him at the time, and in retrospect no other actor likely would have.
