Welcome to our Farmstead and please join us as we show you how we are reviving lost skills of yesteryear. We are a farming and ranching operation in the Texas Hill Country living an old-fashioned lifestyle. Producing our food and eating seasonally is a priority. We follow organic regenerative principles and eat a Weston A. Price diet based on traditional foods. We have been raising cattle, milking dairy cows, raising chickens, growing our own fruits and vegetables for many years. We live on a historic 1870's German farmstead. Since we operate a construction company we will guide you through building projects. We are here to inspire, educate, and guide those seeking an intentional agrarian lifestyle. Please give me name-type of cylinder. Thank you so much
Hey, just wondering when you make the clabber do you drain off the whey once it’s formed?
No, I store it in the fridge without draining. The whey is drained off after the clabber is heated.
Only Indian Vedic cows with hump have the natural microbes that need for yogurt and buttermilk. Jersey cows milk is dangerous for the body and brain.
ah ah ah aiyo Indians were using buttermilk since ages west got up now.. There is no food without buttermilk.
Omg bless you for this video I’ve been searching for how to make cottage cheese without the remnant and bought cultures ❤️🙏can this work with raw goats milk ? Thank you so much
You are welcome. I haven't tried this method with goats milk. Sorry.
Really helpful, humane and peaceful video. At what age do you start working with the calf (harnessing, tying up etc.)? I will be implementing much of this as we raise, breed and milk our dairy cows. Thanks, from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦
We usually start haltering and working with them at 2 weeks. I watch Anne of Green Gables every year. Nova Scotia is beautiful.
I couldn’t see what you used for coconut. It was out of camera shot.
Coconut Cream
very helpful- thank you!
I enjoyed this series so much. So many people need to watch this series. Thank you and God bless you and your family. Please keep sharing and I'll definately keep watching and sharing
We are so glad you found this series helpful and thank you for watching!
I truly enjoyed this video. thank you so much for sharing. The two of you are the real deal. The videos of You Tubers that call what they are doing is Homesteading; to me is just another form of Keeping up with the Jones's, honestly most of them are getting hard to watch. So once again. thank you and your husband for sharing the real and beautiful. May God bless your family
Thank you for your kind compliment! We have been doing this a longtime.
Just made homemade cottage cheese yesterday for the first time yesterday. Yum.
Great!
Bring it to a simmer over what temp ?
Very low. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much!!! My Gracie Mae looks so much like your cow, right down to the curve of her horns and the darker face. I had planned on doing the same thing with calving in the spring and not milking through the winter. We are in central PA so my reasons are likely different for this.
I like this one. Can't wait for the soap😊.
Black colour Jersey suffers soo much in summer season they gets over heated soo easily because of their colour ..... One question .. if they need to suffer everyday will their milk yield go down .. even shade cannot help when wind is nor blowing
I have to buy raw milk, $8.00 a gallon, so it would be better for me to use yogurt as my culture? It sounds like I would be wasting a lot of milk, is that right?
Yes, I believe it would be economical to buy your yogurt culture.
I bought a round bale feeder from the local feed store , they tore it up quick , it was made out of real thin tube steel , i think im gonna rebuild it with well pipe , its tough to bend in a perfect circle though , im looking at the little three wheel circle bending round pipe fixtures and im thinking there all too small , so i got two rear rims off a massey ferguson 35 tractor and a 16" rim , gonna fabricate me a larger model , the trick is building the frame large enough and heavy enough to be able to hold everyyhing and bend a round bale size circle in well pipe , hydrualics will come into effect here also ..
How many gallons does that water tower hold? And how large is your spread?
Is that a Tablespoon of clabber adder to make more as it looks bigger than a teaspoon?
"How to make . . . " Expected to hear/see a recipe by 4:00, 6:00, 9:00, 14:00 . . . @14:27, she says "I hope you will use my recipe . . . " Was really looking for a detailed recipe with instructions. Great idea if you want to take a lot of time to transcribe what she suggests.
What a wonderful tutorial and learning about your family history. I remember my grandmother making butter and buttermilk the same way. Love learning from you and Caren. Thank you both for sharing and All the best!
Great information and your Jerseys are so beautiful. All the best.
Love your stone barn. Beautiful round of cheese. So enjoy learning about the clabber cultures. All the best!
Before you (personally ) consume the raw milk from Your family milk cow , is Mastis the most common testing you do? Is there nay other good test to run beside the usually eye ball monitoring for milk and if cow looks sick.
This has been a great tutorial ... I want to make my own cottage cheese. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!!! I'm in Central Kentucky. I like learning the old ways. All the best!
My cow just freshened, so I am overflowing with milk and started clabber yesterday. She is nearly 4 gallons a milking ecen with the calf on her 24/7. This is a random question but im searching for a calf- sized halter. Have you found any that actually fit new calves other than a rope halter? Thanks. We are in east Texas, new here from Vermont.
Welcome to Texas. Sometimes we will use halters for goat and sheep. Thank you for watching!
Thanks. Junior ( the calf) is soooo fat and beefy the one sheep halter I have wont fit anymore. He is 7 weeks but huge....
Thank you! Just subscribed today! Greetings from East Wenatchee, Washington!

I made Hummus a week ago w/Tahini. I did not like the flavor, in hindsight I think it is the Tahini flavor that turned me off. Can I use Chick Peas to make Hummus w/o Tahini? Also, I happen to love Cannellini beans so I am going to try your recipe minus the Tahini, looks delicious! Ty
very good video thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I grew up on. Holstein 600 cow dairy 40 years ago and my daughter in law just got a Jersey so we are starting back over. Your information was useful and appreciated. Take care and hope you have a blessed day and weekend.

Can you do a how too video ?
I'm another goat milk fan. Was wondering if I could use my homemade goat milk kefir (from raw milk) rather than from cow milk clabber considering that goat milk does not clabber as well as cow milk. Thoughts? Anyone try this? Thank you!
Could you try milking wearing leather gloves?love your videos ❤
what kind of salt do you use, a special salt?
Thank you for sharing these valuable skills! You are a great teacher. 🙂
This is so helpful. I can't wait to make it. So basically I need to feed my starter clabber culture to 1/2 gallon of milk the day before I want to make the cottage cheese and make a big 1/2 gallon batch of clabber to warm up to turn into cottage cheese?
Just subscribed. I’m a beginner kefir maker. I loved seeing your family shots . I live in Japan. I’ll drop in and watch your videos once in awhile.
It's NOT KEEFER. ITS KUFIR..PHONETICS.
Question- Why no iodine in the salt?
In my milk no well-defined kefir grains develop. The milk is just thicker and somewhat lumpy. But straining does not yield gummy grains. Why is that?
also, do I need to remove the cream from the top before starting the clabber or after? or I don't even have to worry about it ?
couls I add some raw homemade kefir to jump start my clabber?
How do you get your final tallow product so white? Mine has a yellow tint.
