Registrace 7. 01. 2020
Fastback flying will showcase a wide range of aviation related videos from aircraft maintenance to IFR flying and everything in between. The odd none flying related video should keep things a little interesting as well!
We aim to motivate and inspire you to get out there and enjoy life and the wonders of flying. Trips to Oshkosh, the Bahamas and local farm runways with friends will give us lots of great experience.
I will also look at the equipment I fly with, how to plan big trips and how to make sure your looking after your aircraft to the highest standard.
Lets get out there and fly. Happy tailwinds!

Sun N Fun Arrival 2024: Penny
A look at the arrival into Sun N Fun in the Cessna 310, Penny 2024.
A very rewarding and stressful procedure that requires lots of planning, and careful examination of the NOTAM and charts to fly it well.

Biplanes will ruin ya' for flying anything else. That is a beautiful Great Lakes.
How cool is that!!
Life in those days... The Aircraft, the guns.

Love your honest review. your background is so stable almost like CGI .....
No CGI here. I can barely make the video's to begin with! It was a nice smooth air morning though.
Ouch!!!!! Lucky to be alive!!!
Hahahaha poor guy
He needs a smaller paint brush! 😂
Good Point. Lol
Tire of what
A tube for a plane tire maybe? He mentioned a hangar.
Tailwheel tire
Let him know the penalty is the same in the Air Force
I will lol
Once again did they come with long range tanks. they also convert yhem iunto tail draggers
Yes you could get them with long range tanks. They called them Patrollers if I remember correctly. I very nearly converted this one to a tailwheel airplane.
Oh dear! More care! 😢
How was the visibility over the lake?
Visibility was fantastic on this Crossing but sometimes it's really bad!
thanks for showing but OMG that's clunky to enter a code and don't see myself taking my eyes of flying to do that.
I learned how to fly in a Piper Tomahawk. Owned a 172 for a couple years and liked it. Bought a 64 musketeer flew and operated it for a couple of years. This was in the late 70s early 80s. Great airplane It just felt solid when you flew it. Did have to watch the weight. especially since I flew out of St Petersburg Florida. A lot of hot Summer days. Had great room inside. I miss that airplane.
Greetings! Excellent videos, well put together. I've enjoyed them and appreciate your no-frills approach quite a bit. Thank you for the effort you've put into them. At 7:18 in this video, the overlay mentions "See my video on checking piston rings". What is the title of that video on your channel? Searching for "piston", "rings", etc., doesn't seem to yield a result. Thanks again!
Sorry in the delay in my response. The video you want is czcams.com/video/_OuGsKVyg0g/video.htmlsi=qipsjnIqva6YEshw I didn't give it a very good name apparently! I am glad that you have found the video helpful.
@@fastbackflying853 Hey that's all good! I appreciate the reply and the content.
Woke up wondering how many skilled pilots can do this. Apparently not many
I wonder if it's more that most skill pilots are smart enough to understand how uncomfortable and unnecessary this is!
Pain in the 455
2200 rpm for takeoff is much too low. It really should do at least 2500 static and 2700 at sealevel and 89 mph climb speed. As you cruise at higher altitudes it's ok to run the rpm up to red line by 7 - 8000 ft. Fly the 170 at 6 - 12000 ft.
AFTER MANY HOURS OF FLYING MEL IFR YOU FLY TO SLOW FOR A NO FLAP APPROACH REMEMBER NO FLAP INCREASED STALL SPEED
Yes no flaps increase stall speed but it is so low in the Aztec as to be no issue at the speeds I am flying. So disagree with your comment.
Thanks for sharing the experience and the flight. Love the 310. Stay safe!!
Have my PPL and working towards Instrument rating and CPL eventually, should I get this or go with a budget friendly PNR DC H10-13.4 headset?
I would strongly suggest getting the active noise cancellation. Your ears will thank you. You will have less headaches after long lifts and ATC audio is much easier to hear and understand.
@@fastbackflying853 Thank you appreciate it!
@@fastbackflying853 Thank you appreciate it, going with the DC ONE-x. My only concern is if you can hear the RPM changes and stall warnings with an ANR clearly?
I don't like bose because the headset is made out of cheap plastic. David Clark used to be made out of metal. They were Chrome polished metal headset I wish that David Clark would go back to Chrome metal headsets. I wish that those would actually make Chrome metal retro style headsets like that but they don't they make old cheap headsets that are plastic. I don't understand why everything is going to cheap fragile plastic now even cars are just becoming garbage. I wish we could go back to the 70s and 80s when cars were actually built better. Unlike this garbage plastic they build today
Cessna 150 M or Cessna 150G, which one?
•Gain height with extra speed and get the speed as required for forced landing •Simultaneous fuel cock off and ignition off, all electricals off, give mayday call Carry out forced landing
I got the zulu 3 and am not impressed. It hurts where my jaw and ear meet, and there is an annoying echo. Going to return them and try these.
Sorry to hear the Zulu 3's are not working for you. I think you will be very happy with the DC. I have a number of Zulu headsets and unfortunately they all stopped working and are not repairable!
This is AN AWESOME video. Thank you 🙏🏾😊!
I am really glad you enjoyed it.
Sure love seeing the 310, great video! We never flew into S&F but numerous times into OSH.
Yes I agree on the 310 but still got the Aztec. Love my 65 C model Piper Truck. 🙂
I love flying the "Aztruck"!
Your verbal was very good but your visual was awful
Thanks for the critique. I will endeavour to do better moving forward.
Awesome! The controller's commentary was great :D.
Glad you enjoyed!
Crazy approach, well flown! I flew (commercially) to Sun 'n Fun in 2018 and had a blast. Have to do it again some time.
Thank you kindly. Sounds like an epic trip for you and the Musketeer? Fly down the West coast then make your way East over the Grand Canyon into Arizona then to Florida?
@@fastbackflying853 Flying VFR from B.C. to Florida at that time of year is a pretty tall order and probably not realistic. Yes, I'd fly down the west coast then across the south. In 1999 my plane's former owners flew her to Oshkosh (three days, CYNJ-KGGW, KGGW-KSTC, KSTC-KOSH). This is much more doable. "White low wing over Fisk give me a wing rock!"
Very cool! Even with those shades on I could tell it was uncut full attention the entire approach.
It really was. I was very fortunate with my timing. I planned to arrive about 30 minutes after the airspace opened as they prioritize departures. Everyone who arrived early or on time ended in the hold. By arriving later and then adjusting my speed on the way to the first waypoint I managed to avoid the hold and fit in nicely with the rest of the traffic.
That was a great video. Amazing amount of traffic. Can't believe how ATC must feel juggling everything!
Such a gorgeous plane. The short nose, canted tank, three bladed, swept stab models just catch my eye and hold it. Such a rakish beauty. I’m an A&P, and I think if I ever picked one up I would finally be inclined to get my IA. Oh, and a pilots license and a twin rating. :). Those might help.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures and hearing about your trip! Hope weather cooperates. Be safe!
Hope to one day have a 310. Got my ME in an Aztec. Currently fly a D model out of KFTY. Might have to get my A&P first 😂.
Yes the A&P will be a big help. Other options include winning the lottery, large inheritance, robbing a bank, getting hired as a big shot VIP lol 😂. Aztec and 310 are both wonderful airplanes to fly.
Same, I just love this aircraft, wrote a comment about my A&P…regardless, the 310 makes a big hole in the sky to dump money into. Sigh, maybe I’ll just have to settle for a 140 and an imagination.
@@fastbackflying853 :) yeah all the options are needed. I just wish the Aztec was faster. It is great with short field takeoff and landings...just slow for a multi engine. Useful load is amazing though :).
What keeps the connecting rod piston pin from sliding out and scoring the cylinder walls?
The ends of the pistons have an aluminum cap and that rides up and down the cylinder and stays centered
I watched your flight on playback on flight radar which made it a super quick flight track, like supersonic fast play! Have a great time!
How did you make out? Get in OK? Is the destination Lakeland? Be safe and have fun!
We made it
You had a better view than us. We had so much cloud clover though neat to see darkness and then light return!
Safe journey! "Happy tailwinds"
I hope you have a good trip. Quite a distance to go! How many stops do you need to make? Will you be flying during the eclipse?
Plan to watch eclipse from the ground. To make life easy I am planning on three stops
Have a great time!❤
Do you expect any effects of the solar eclipse while flying due to solar flares or changes in wind direction etc?? Be careful!
2:10 please explain, no way... Not saying I don't believe you... But I don't believe you haha
Well 172 costs have gone up significantly and alot of Cessna 172 aircraft have higher hull values than an early 310. Alot of 172 Owners also have alot less flying experience so that can cause rates to be higher. I pay 60 percent cost compared to a number of 172 customers that I have.
Id like to see the camera that filmed that.
Go pro hero max
An almost pretty good video. Except. Pulling the lifters out of the case. NO MAGNET!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO MAGNET. Again NONONONO. If you magnetize the lifter, Lycoming wants you to throw it away and purchase a new one. Ouch!
I use a hook made of stainless steel safety wire to pull the lifters.
@@fastbackflying853 I understand that. The next person trying to pull the lifter will try to use a magnet. Much easier than the time you spent fishing. Unfortunetly Lycoming knows something about NOT using a magnetized lifter . So...a word of warning to beginners. You could ruin your engine.
Great video! Looks beautiful down there. I love listening to the differences in American ATC from ours up here.
It really was beautiful. I was also great full that this airport was sufficient distance away from the mountains to not make the descent very challenging. I do find a number of differences with ATC especially with regards to read backs even when VFR
Loved flying charters in these in ‘81. Carried tons of ice with total confidence unlike a Barron or 310. Great memories
They do have an amazing wing!
Neat plane. Neat video. Thank you! My multi time is limited, a couple of hours in a Seneca. I see the attraction. Buying the plane, even a little putt putt like my Musketeer, is just the first step. You have to maintain it as well. I've seen too many planes rotting on the apron because their owners couldn't afford an engine rebuild.
Really glad you enjoyed it. I fear neglected airplanes will become more common as prices for parts gets ever higher. Do you have any travel plans for the spring and summer in the Musketeer?
@@fastbackflying853 There are lots of places i'd like to go. Visit my old home base Langley CYNJ. Visit WHG's original Canadian home Springbank CYBW. Fly to Yellowknife CYZF and say hi to the Buffalo folks. Lots more. But we keep having really rough fire seasons in B.C. which isn't conducive to going anywhere...
