Is that bypass valve attached to a throttle cable?
@@christhompson9440 No, it's vacuum operated
badass!
How does the high voltage ground from the cap coil work ? So the coil is in the cap , the positive high voltage goes into the cap rotor then out through the plug wires , but were or how does the high voltage ground get to the engine ? I know there is a black cap ground but that high voltage cant be going through that ? It would need plug type wires to ground ? On an external coil it grounds from the metal coil case , but this cant happen with the coil in the cap ??
Very good video extremely well executed
Were did you get the distributor cap from ?

I don't know, you know
Bonneville brougham 1979 301 2barrel, started everyday I had it paid 300$ back in 2007. Miss the car police impounded and auctioned it after a fraudulent domestic violence charge. I miss very much!
I want to add this mod to my 66 Bonneville. I just put an HEI distributor on it to replace a pertronix that it came with, and this feels like a great next step since it’s pinging like hell
I know I could back off the timing and I have but it makes the car a slug
@clarkinthedark1 Yes, that is exactly why use the knock sensor... keep the timing nice and advanced... and the knock control with retard it only when needed
@@raysoto1969 when you run these, how many degrees base timing do you run? 6, 10, 12°?
@@clarkinthedark1 about 10 degrees
Interesting choice of an engine to build for performance.
Hi, I’m looking for one like this one are you interested in sale?
Hey im not an expert i just want my car to have more power....so i plan to install side mounted superchage and install a top mounting carb ...so the formation that i planning is engine> supercharge than carburetor ...so my question is can i get the car to start easily? Or can it even start?
The supercharger will be boosting to the carburetor?.... You will need a blow-thru carburetor. After that, yes, it will work
I keep referring back to this video. Nice job. Just fixed an AC Delco Cordone rebuilt HEI Distributor that the module was wired wrong from the factory, Your description for the 5 pin solved the issue of no-spark on it.
Think I can pull this off on a big block 455?
I introduced your video to a 301 group on facebooks. Hopefully you gained some followers in the last week. They'd love to have you in the group also. You'd be listened to intently lol.
My first car was a ‘69 riv….that thing was a land yacht
That looks like its gonna be a awesome machine
I love that firebird….i like how it has the early 70’s front clip on it….definitley cool
Haha.... you are one of the few who know the difference!
Nice concept….cant wait to hear this thing run
Dude
Good info...Thanks
When will you be running this?
Hopefully, in a month or two, I'll make a video starting it up on the engine stand
cool stuff! how much HP will the M112 support?
About 470hp with engine mods. Up to 540 ported
Machine out that throttle body so a four barrel square bore flange fits. Use a modern EFI throttle body with built in , throttle position sensor and maf/map sensor , IAC , put a temp sensor in the water neck and run TPI injectors , oxygen sensor and Delco engine management from a 1988 TPI Chev 350 ! Those injectors look about 1988 style , it would run grate and you could change Eproms to tune, all that would only cost maybe $200 these days .
Even in factory turbocharged form, the 301 produced less bhp per litre than pretty much any European engine of the same era.
I want your trans am firebird hood!!! i need those scoops!!!
ALL YOUR TALK OF "FLOW" IS ERELAVANT WITH A "PRESSURED " INTAKE. Yes, you did increase volumetric efficientsy witch is a plus.
You make great videos and I learn something every time. In regards to the turbo intake casting “ The rare one” if you knew someone that did sand casting and could make a couple you would have a spare (just a thought)
красивый проект. смотрится круто!!! молодец
So would you consider making a kit ?
Yes, what parts would you need included in the kit, and what price do you think would be fair?
Lol boosting a 12:5:1 engine 💣💥
If those brackets you made up for the PS pump and blower drive would fit a 400/455 pontiac, you may have a market there for some kits.
For the carburetor flange have you thought about cutting up a offenhauser 5497 cross ram adapter or something similar?
Yes, that would work well also!
pretty cool video. sorry about your friends divorce. maybe you could tell him this joke: "why are divorces so expensive? because they are worth it." I have a 1982 S10 with a 6.0 LQ4 that I put an Eaton M90 on. I have a 7.4 inch harmonic balancer and a 2.55 inch supercharger pulley and it makes about 4.5lbs of boost. it's fuel injected. I live in Wyoming and the elevation is 7k feet. the dragstrip I go to is named Hypoxia and it's at 6500 feet. Your Firebird is a cool car. maybe you could take the 260 out and put the 301 in it.
That is awesome how such a small supercharger can still make boost on a big engine. Thank you for sharing that! Gives me confidence in a project that I am working on with an M112 supercharger on an 8.2 liter Cadillac 500 engine.
@@raysoto1969 it's a big engine but it doesn't make much power. I think that M112 will help it a lot. I had the silencer ports welded shut on my M90 and it is supposed to make more boost.
🥝✔️
Thats all fine, but the crankshafts in those engines snap like a pretzel..
What experience do you speak of? There are others here on youtube making 400 plus horsepower on the stock 301 crankshaft
@@raysoto1969 Just yrs ago, friends saw many broken cranks from 301s, they had a engine shop with a dyno. They said dont bother hot rodding a 301. Wont take high compression or rpms. I had a 78 Gp with 301.
@terrypikaart4394 Thank you for your reply.... but I'm going to respectfully disagree. I have never seen an actual broken 301 crankshaft. Spun rod bearings, maybe, from a lack of maintenance or improper engine rebuilding. I have seen head gasket failures on turbo Trans Am's from overboost or preignition. But again, never an actual broken crankshaft. I have read a ton of old forums about how people say how weak the 301 crankshaft is, and how they just explode like grenades... yet nobody has never ever posted actual proof or a single picture of a broken 301 crankshaft. It's like an old rumor people seem to repeat from someone else.
Im glad your confident in your project and have faith in it living a while. Just dont spin it over 7000!..
@terrypikaart4394 Haha, I agree, I won't be spinning it any higher than 5000rpm
Coming along nicely! Also, we need some ride along videos of the 260 Firebird!
I am VERY interested in doing this to my car. Please let me know if parts come available.
Super cool vid! The truest essence of hot rodding. Taking old factory parts from all over and making power. And the fit of the hood on the Firebird…grade A. 👊🏻
I hope to make my own soon
Love it Ray!!! Awesome fabrication and well thought out. I'd love to see what that does compared to a Turbocharged 301 at similar boost.
Thank you, Tocayo. l look very forward to seeing more videos from you also!
fun stuff
Did you have to change the oil pan ?
No
I love the work you're doing. Do you know of any superchargers with the snout on the passenger side so I can put one on a 302 ford?
Nothing cheap that I know of... but the Weiand 77-174FSB-1 will fit nicely
@@raysoto1969 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm keeping an eye out for one of the Weiands. On the Eatons, you wouldn't happen to know if the snouts and if necessary, the impellers could be "flipped" over to put the snout on the other side would you? Thanks.
@petlovergirll Physically, the snout and rotors can be flipped in the supercharger, but then the rotors will be spinning the wrong way, and the inlet & outlet will be incorrectly positioned for reverse rotation. The only practical solution would be to flip the entire supercharger upside-down, in which the outlet of the supercharger is facing up, which you would then need to route the intake runners up and over the supercharger.
@@raysoto1969 I see. Thanks for the reply.
Why would you want to make the worst cap design fit on a superior design ? I would love to eliminate the arc jumping garbage vortex cap style!
I've never experienced arcing when using the vortec caps on HEI distributors. In my experience, this arching only occurs on worn or improperly installed OE vortec distributors, or when you have a bad spark plug or wire.
Could I adapt a similar concept to a Buick 3800 V6 engine? Many vehicles with this engine have separate fuses for bank 1 and 2 injector feeds, and I just think a LeSabre or a Park Ave would be a neat car to turn into a hypermiler...
Yes!... just depends on your fabrication skill

No problem, ask
Those wedges on top of the sc… are they able to get machines off all the way. Clearance is my biggest worry right now as the ls400 it’s going in is a bit tight engine bay wise. I seen on some of your other videos you had some of ground down. But would most of it be able to come off ?
@@ZeitakuLifestyle Yes, you can grind them off nearly all the way
@@raysoto1969 cool man that was my biggest concern so far. The tip you give on the oil baffling on the inside of the snout saved me so much 🙏🏽gonna have to go in and get that removed. I’ll message if I have any more questions thank you ray
