Commercial Air & Saturation Diving
Commercial Air & Saturation Diving
Saturation Diving Chambers on Diving Support Vessel DSV Challenger . Brunei offshore
In Saturation Diving chambers are essential. Diving Support Vessel like DSV Challenger, was built with the Sat and Air Diving System inside its superstructure. Built in Norway Vard Shipyard the Dive System is by DRASS, a well known Italian company. The chambers can accommodate 12 divers at a time. 3 men dive teams x 4. In an emergency evacuation all the Saturation Divers in the chambers will make their way to the Hyperbaric Life boat which is in this case ,Self-propelled. And they will remained under pressure until we can get their lifeboat to a resue facility on shore where they will undergo ‘deco’ to surface. While the rest of the crew go to their normal respective lifeboats. More on this and the Air dive chambers in another video. There are also 2 ROVs located on main deck; ROV Cougar and Quisar. The target is for simultaneous operations between all the dive stations. At present moment the vessel is working in Brunei offshore field for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP).
All video footages were recorded using iPhone, when we were either on standby ie, 500m away from platform or during the vessel annual testing period in Singapore Yard.
Editing was done myself using iMovie and the music was composed by Yasmin😍.
Thanks for watching and also for your support.
Stay tuned for more videos on diving and ROV works and general living at sea.
Stay safe and Take care.👍🏼

Hello sir good day i want to become commercial scuba diver but I don't how ,how can i consult you ??????
Please give your insta I'd or any suggestions thanks 🙏🙏
Hello buddy, you mean commercial diver? Scuba is recreational diving. There are a few commercial diving schools. I heard there’s one in South Africa, Tasmania and Scotland. Canada also has a good commercial diving school. Hope this help.💪🏼
@@AbangShamvideos thank you very much sir i am from India and we don't have to much knowledge about it so it's deficult to know about more and once again thanks for your valuable suggestions 🙏❤️❤️

I used to work for drass long time ago, but i can remember as yesterday all time spent on this ship for the commissioning of each system. I really appreciate your idea of showing the "diving day-life" and i hope the best for you all
Thanks Riccardo. Good job on preparation and commissioning of the DSV Challenger. We get the benefits from your work.👍🏼

Hard working 💪
Yes, sometimes on a smaller boat work is harder .. but small team has its virtues😀
Wow how do I apply what skills are you seeking along with sat ticket?
You can start by going to a dive school, this will qualify you to be an Air diver up to 50m. After saving up some of your earnings , you can enrol in a Saturation Diving school. That will qualify you to go deeper than 50m and breathing Heliox (Helium + Oxygen) and you get to go for all the big jobs.😜. To do that you will also need additional skill set to make yourself marketable, like DMT (diver medic technician) or 3.2u inspection diver, etc… Take care.. 👍🏼😁
@AbangShamvideos jzk alhamdulillah, at the moment class 4 is complete , I am air tech chevron nigeria , insha Allah after this rotation class 3, then class 2 after next roto. 1 year qualified and 100 hours required to do sat . Shukran for information. I will act upon it . Best of duaas and barakat for u. Shukran uncle.
The greatest thing you give me is that a Muslim can make it ..the 1 thing I needed most. Maximum respect to u . I salute you sir.
AlhamduLLILLAH. JazakALLAH brother. Take care. Be safe. When it gets rough and difficult remember it will make you better and stronger💪🏼🤲🏼

Hello Sir. I hope they are doing well. I have a few questions how many divers die in this job? That would be interesting! is it harder to weld underwater or on land? greetings from Germany Selam Aleykum.
Salam . Nowadays with all the regulation and laws, the number of fatalities are low. As long as they follow the procedures the chances of things going wrong are minimise. Usually at the planning stage most of the problem would have been looked into. For me welding underwater is abit harder. Because of the elements like cold water, the tide, waves, electric shock, example if you do not have a good earth connection. All this can be obstacles to overcome. But once you get used to, it gets easy. I like it when I can see the molten metal forming at the tip of the welding rod, when the water visibility is good. Take care my German friend👋🏼👍🏼😁
Would you Hire me with your good favor....
I would if I have a company…but I don’t. I’m also a freelancer. If you are a underwater welder I heard Mermaid in Saudi is looking for welders
Wow say hello to single solo mann yeahhh... Am solo searching soulmate single man yeah
I’m almost 40.. can I still do this as a career?
As a diver maybe not advisable, but as a Dive Tech (if you have a electrical or mechanical qualification) or a Life Support Technician (will have to undergo a LST course) ..are your available options. And you will need to take sea survival course like BOSIET and pass topside medical. Hope this answers your question 👍🏼😀💪🏼
@@AbangShamvideos Yes! Thanks!
Love the video my Brother, I remember the ghost shark and other creatures when I was with you fine gentlemen 🙏🙏🙏
Helloooo brother! How are you? We miss you onboard..!🥰👍🏼👍🏼👋🏼
@@AbangShamvideos doing well Bang Sham, you guys are still being awesome and I do think about the good ol' KC 😎😎
You are basically screwed if you have a medical emergency
That’s the reason why every Saturation team will have a Diver Medic Technician (DMT). He will have to stabilise the injured diver and provide medical aid. Meanwhile the topside will deco this team out. (🤔yeah you have to endure the pain through out the deco process). My team mate had to be sutured by one of us because he cut himself at the foot near to the right ankle. We took 3 days to deco to surface.
Wow a specialized lifeboats that’s really cool. Never new that such a thing existed
Yes, only for the divers in saturation. This will be launched in an emergency, set sail to nearest Hyperbaric Life Support facility on shore, so that the sat divers can undergo decompression😁
@@AbangShamvideos that would be a scary boat to be inside, if ever used for intended purpose. How long can one survive stuck inside the survival lifeboat?
@@poione42 It’s claustrophobic for sure. For our job, we have the Hyperbaric Rescue Facility about 5 hours sail, from the furthest field. The 12 divers will need to stay in that lifeboat chamber through out. There’s also a small toilet at the end of that chamber (cannot really see from my video) By then the emergency response team will have the crane and riggers ready to receive the Hyperbaric Life Boat; carry it and connect to the chamber of the rescue facility. Diver transfer into the chamber and begin their deco.👍🏼😁
@@AbangShamvideos thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Massive respect!

@@Nachogsxr1000r Hi there ! Just replied to your email😀
thx for the vid! What do the ALST/LST do during their 12 hour shift? do they have to stare at the wall of buttons the entire time in order to 'monitor' the diving crew?
Hello there 👋🏼 ALST work among other things, consist of preparing food for the Sat divers prior to their start of bell run(their 1 hours notice to dive), and their clothes for work. Also they have to prepare the hot water suits, their boots, cold mineral water bottle, sodasorp canisters, etc. Meanwhile Life Support Supervisors (LSS) and Life support technician (LST) have to prepare the gases for the next chamber to be used. Calculate the amount of gases needed for the duration of the project and what is being used daily by the Sat Teams and send out the report to management onboard or onshore. Usually when all 3 chambers are occupied . They are busy running around for some sort of ‘lock runs’ or toilet flushes. On top of that when we do split level Saturation dives. Bail outs and On board gases have to be filled by them in according to the mixture of the current bell working depth… work carries on and on😁
@@AbangShamvideos interesting!! and can you tell me if ALSTs/LSS etc get to see much sunlight?? or would they spend most of their days in that room shown in your vid?
Oh! the LSTs are not confined in the chamber like the Sat divers. They are free to ‘roam’ around like the rest of the vessel’s crew. Only Sat diver remained in the chamber for up to 28 days, depends on the project and schedule.🤗
@@AbangShamvideos That's great to know! Would it be difficult for a female to become an ALST without having any commercial diving experience? I saw a IMCA approved online course for the LST cert, but I have a concern that employers would obviously want ppl that have at least had commercial diving experience...
Technically any non diving personnel can be an ALST. I’ve seen a non diver becoming an ALST. In reality some company prefer to use a diverALST because the person can also be used as a standby diver if they suddenly decided to do Air diving. This person could be an extra hand. But the main concern actually is about job availability-(are there much job to go around?). Many guys have Life Support Tech ticket but struggled to find a slot as a ALST. They need the hours before they can seat for the exam to promote to LST. You will need to travel to places where they are doing Saturation diving regularly in the beginning and spend a lot of time away from family..hope this answer your question.🤔😁
Saya senang sekali bisa melihat videonya pak , sekaligus pelajaran buat saya yg baru mau mulai training 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Terimakasih kerana menonton😁🤲🏼 Share video sama kawan2 ya?🙏
Whale sharks are harmless ,plankton eaters
That’s true , however divers and supervisors are afraid they might entangle with our umbilical and drag us off . ROV supervisors are also similarly concern that the ROV get pull-off. The bridge crew is also aware that if our subsea references like taut wire and HPR beacons get affected we can lose control of the vessel. Those are some of our concerns. 👌🏼😁
Love the trance music 😊
Thanks for watching. Cheers 😁
Great video :)
Thanks Boss… 😁 Take care👍🏼
Nice job amigo `s
Thanks bro.. take care , stay safe👍🏼😁
That’s big money, and looks like an interesting job. My biggest issue would be sitting around in that life support chamber all day. I’m not claustrophobic, I’d just hate being stuck somewhere, that’s why I can’t see myself ever having a desk job. I know it’s vital, just saying that’s what would be challenging for me to get use too. Having sharks that close, incredible, that looks awesome. BOL, stay safe, and thanks for sharing.

Olá, também sou brasileiro. Meu pai foi também foi mergulhador, mas abandonou a carreira, tenho o sonho de me tornar mergulhador saturado. Ainda sou jovem, tenho 15 anos, e pretendo me tornar mergulhador saturado no futuro.
Hi sir I want to become a under water welder please help me
Hello there Ajith., To be a recognised underwater welder you will have to go through the underwater welding course. Those courses usually include welding practices for topside (in the workshop) and most importantly underwater welding practices (at the pool or tank). After the practice, they will conduct a coded test to see how good your welds are. This will usually involve a break test of your test piece to see how much penetration you have in the test piece and it will also involve an inspection by a surveyor. You will need to find an internationally recognised underwater welding school if you want to make a career out of this. There’s welding school in UK and Malaysia that I know off, that teaches to the AWS standards. Hope this info is useful for you😀
Thankyou so much sir Sir Now lam staying in welding

Hello there! If you have diving qualifications like HSE part 1 you will be able to work offshore. If not you can work inshore . In Singapore , KBA associate offer a diving course for you to work inshore👍🏼💪🏼
Sir pano po kaya makapagapply sa mga katulad mo ng sa inyo. 10years po akong diver sa manila bay then graduate din po ng bs marine transportation po
If you want to work in Singapore you will need a commercial diving certificate, course is conducted at KBA associates. This will qualify you to work inshore and in Singapore port limits. The video I took is me at INPP France for my Saturation Qualification. Before this Saturation ticket , you will need a HSE part 1 or ADAS part 3, surface supplied diving up to 50m. And having these tickets you will be able to work offshore. Hope this helps 😁👍🏼
Back in 80s used to dive offshore West Africa - there Bull sharks were a REAL problem, bastard would try and come at you from below. The rest, just keep an eye on them. The other buggers were sea snakes, they're very curious, and when you shoo them away, can get frighten, and then they will bite - they are really very venomous, i.e. Beaked Sea Snake, for instance, has a venom so toxic that 3 drops of it can kill eight persons outright.
Respect from the guys working in South China Seas …to the guys working in West Africa💪🏼
