    This isn't about "electronic" shifting, it's about "Di2" shifting. SRAM's "etap axs" shifting eliminates many/most of your objections. One other thing... Those who say they've never had a mechanical cable break are either a) not riding very much, or b) lying.

    The RapiLock system is similar to what Pinarello uses on their bikes. I have never understood why you would want to run anything different from a system like this. If my stock Pinarello axels ever need replacing, these will absolutely be what I go with.

    The RockBros handlebar lock actually looks fantastically useful. Clearly designed for a coffee stop where the main thing is to stop someone being able to just walk off with the bike. BUT: does it rattle in the bar? Especially on gravel/rough roads?

  • @AL-iy4fb

    Some new bikes are available with electronic shifting only. So there is not really a choice. Also, if you get a bike with a leasing model like „lease a bike“ or any other bike leasing service connected with your employer, you sometimes have to choose the premium service package that often comes with the best insurance option (also sometimes no choice here as well to get a cheaper option with less service) Also here, it’s no problem to get electric shifting because if something gets broken, the service is already covered. If you just privately buy a bike and also have the option between mechanical and electronic it’s probably most suitable (financially) to go with mechanical.

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist Před 5 dny

      That is a fantastic point Ram, and was a real pain in the ar$e to answer, as I needed to take them back off the bike 😂😂😂😂 According to Shimano, a Shimano pad has a 2mm deep braking shoe (See Shimano link below). A Gorilla NRS ONE pads shoe stands proud of that metal edge by 1.99mm HOWEVER!!!!!! The Shimano pad requires a pad spring, which takes 0.48mm away from the Shimano’s overall usable shoe depth, taking its usable thickness down to 1.52mm So to conclude, in real world use, the Gorilla pad is 0.49mm ……. Or 25% thicker. bike.shimano.com/en-EU/service-upgradeparts/service-tips.html

    The axle product seems a good idea. I bought a planetx frame which didn’t have a rear axle. I spotted that Ribble bikes sold the axle but they wouldn’t sell me one as I didn’t have one of their bikes. Managed to get one from planetx in the end. So for that reason I could see it being helpful. It’s also the reason I will never own a ribble bike and they missed out on my last two bike purchases.

    This thru axle thing feels like too much faff. And it's not really all that light. Just measure your old axle and order exactly the same but without any locking attachement. Even when riding without multitool surely place for a single small allen key can be found.
