  • One of the great things about having a CZcams channel, is I get sent really cool stuff to try out for free. But I’ve not been doing that, and the cool stuff shelf is getting out of hand.
    So in this video, I’m going to share with you a few clever products, that I’m a fan of, and think are worth talking about.

    The RapiLock system is similar to what Pinarello uses on their bikes. I have never understood why you would want to run anything different from a system like this. If my stock Pinarello axels ever need replacing, these will absolutely be what I go with.

      Thanks! I'm trying to keep a fair balance between workshop how-to videos, and product reviews. I don't want it to be one of those channels that just pushes stuff at the viewer to buy 👍

    Another great video. After hearing your comments about Gorilla NRS pads I have just ordered on set to try out to see how I get along with them. Gorilla were very helpfull as I just sent them the spec of my current branks (Tektro) and they came back with their matching equivalent. PS. I mentioned your name to them when ordering.

    The axle product seems a good idea. I bought a planetx frame which didn’t have a rear axle. I spotted that Ribble bikes sold the axle but they wouldn’t sell me one as I didn’t have one of their bikes. Managed to get one from planetx in the end. So for that reason I could see it being helpful. It’s also the reason I will never own a ribble bike and they missed out on my last two bike purchases.

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před měsícem

      I’d never own one either……… But I can’t really say why, as it’d involve me opening a can of worms!!!!

    The RockBros handlebar lock actually looks fantastically useful. Clearly designed for a coffee stop where the main thing is to stop someone being able to just walk off with the bike. BUT: does it rattle in the bar? Especially on gravel/rough roads?

    • @tomconway6808

    Doing the Ribble Valley Ride Expert route, I've done over 100 miles before but never 1900m of climbing. It was boiling last year when I did the 50 and the climb out of Malham was an absolute killer. Trying this year to fuel a bit better (mainly carb loading, sugar water rather than pure caffeine last year). I just wish the gpx files were out so I could plan a bit better.

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před měsícem

      Hi Chris, They don't like to upload the GPX file, just in case they need to change the route last minute. Just had a look at their very basic route. Pretty sure I can work out the basics of it..... here you go:
      Will be pretty flat from Clitheroe to Gargrave (Where you cross the A65). Then up over Malham Tarn (BIG!!). Over to Stainforth, and then down into Settle. Out to Rathmell, then Wigglesworth, then Tosside. Then Tossed to Slaidburn. Dunlop Bridge. All of that Wigglesworth to Dunsop bit is lumpy! Then Dunlop Bridge to Chipping. And then back to Clitheroe.
      All of those villages should help you plan a pretty good representation of the route.
      Hope that helps.
      Jon

    How you supposed to torque the thru axle

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před měsícem

      How would you torque and lever style thru-axle? You don't need to, just use common sense. But if you feel you need to, the RapiLock is 6-8Nm, it says it on the side.

  • @Ram-pc9ts

    Regard the Gorrila brake pads, Usable brake pad material appears less, due to lip of the holder compared to a brake pad on a flat surface. Can you address?

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před měsícem +1

      That is a fantastic point Ram, and was a real pain in the ar$e to answer, as I needed to take them back off the bike 😂😂😂😂
      According to Shimano, a Shimano pad has a 2mm deep braking shoe (See Shimano link below).
      A Gorilla NRS ONE pads shoe stands proud of that metal edge by 1.99mm
      HOWEVER!!!!!! The Shimano pad requires a pad spring, which takes 0.48mm away from the Shimano’s overall usable shoe depth, taking its usable thickness down to 1.52mm
      So to conclude, in real world use, the Gorilla pad is 0.49mm ……. Or 25% thicker.

      Let us know how you get on with it. It has an amount of rigidity to it, so I suspect it’s keeping itself pressed up against the inner of the bars, and not rattling about……. If you get what I mean😬

    This thru axle thing feels like too much faff. And it's not really all that light. Just measure your old axle and order exactly the same but without any locking attachement. Even when riding without multitool surely place for a single small allen key can be found.
