    Use the correct tool bla bla bla and then the first thing you do is pull out the cable out of the battery by hand. When you have a little sense you don’t need that ridiculous tool. Just do’t pull on the cable. You figured that out.

    Unless you have a Canyon Endurace which has the utterly stupid design of battery in down post(due to split seat post) and this therefore involves removing bottom bracket to access battery. Yes, you read that right. To access battery you need to remove cranks and bottom bracket. Madness. I obviously didn't do this when I installed the D-Fly unit, I connected to rear derailleur. This is with 6870 series Di2. However, in the not too distant future I will need to replace the battery as bike is 6 years old and now only getting around 500miles between charges and no doubt this will continue to reduce.

    How do you cope with mobile phone downloaded update patches if they are corrupted by bad signal or high bit error rates . Can the head unit resolve corrupted firmware updates ? Also , after about 200 or so updates , the operating system loses the ability to update and says unsuccessful . I saw this for the first time on a high mileage unit last weekend . DVD and Blu - ray recorders do this as well . I find Di2 rather touchy and easily upset .

    I have a weird problem with my Garmin Edge 530 and 840 across bikes equipped with Di2. When I swap head units across a bike, when I press the Di2 button on my hood/lever, I get a message on my Garmin asking if I want to configure the device for Di2. It's already configured and I just ignore it, but have you ever come across that?

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Ric,
      I’ve been giving this one some thought, because I’ve never heard of it before. I can’t think what can be causing this, other than the two head units are under two separate Garmin accounts…… which I’m sure they’re not. However, I can’t imagine there are many people that are doing what you do, with them using multiple head units on Di2. It could just be that there is a glitch that Garmin isn’t aware of. Their support team is really good, it may be worth getting in touch with them on this one.
      Let me know if you get to the bottom of it, because I’ll be interested to know.
      Thanks,
      Jon

      The current Di2 can only be paired with one head unit at a time to stop collusion with other units if you are riding in a peloton to stop data sharing and interference if another Di2 unit is close by .

    Question.
    I installed Di2 in 2015, and there has been zero maintenance in the last 8 years. It’s stopped working, and I’m trying to connect the E-tube app to the display unit I have. Something like a SC-MT800. It’s prompting for a code to connect. Is there a default number?? Or is it something I added 8 years ago, and have to try and guess what I was thinking back then. It can see the device, so that part of it is working. Just can’t remember the connection code.

      @@Sofahunden I never worked it out what the PIN was, but I managed to fix it. I used the Di2 charger from my road bike, which plugs into a port on the SC-MT800, and connecting to an older version of E-Tube (current version doesn't work), I could change the PIN. I have a distant memory that the PIN can't start with a zero, otherwise you can't connect to it via bluetooth. Not sure if that's true, or a mis-remembered memory.

    Great video and presentation.
    I use one unit which I can swap between Di2 bikes. I only do this to configure the shifting as the E-tube computer interface is Windows only and won't run on my Mac. The battery remaining function on my head unit is handy, while the beep when I run out of gears on a climb is [usually!] amusing. These functions are otherwise not missed on the bike that is unequipped.
    Of course, wireless functionality comes straight out of the box with Sram eTap......and as well on the new Di2 according to comments on here, so there's that.

      As a Mac user, I have this issue too. Also, I agree with you, the battery indicator is the main thing I use, and yeah, that "You're on your own now Pal" when you run out of gears is amusing. For me though, the most useful feature is the ability to scroll screens with the shifter buttons.

    How are your Di2 cables routed into your stem?

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi,
      The bike in this video has the MOST Tiger Aero 3K Di2 stem, and the MOST Jaguar XA handlebar. This allows for routing directly through the bar and into the front of the stem. The Di2 cable then appears out of the bottom of the stem where it meets the fork, and routes down to the downtube. It’s not fully internally routed, as it routes externally at the point mentioned, but it’s still a pretty tidy option.
      Thanks for watching.
      Jon

    • @ashleyhouse9690
      @ashleyhouse9690 Před 10 měsíci

      @@ribblevalleycyclist Thanks for the explanation. I thought it would have to be a certain stem/handlebar combo which makes the solution a bit non-standard. I would imagine most people have a normal bar/stem combo which obviates this and have to put the Di2 wireless unit somewhere less than ideal.

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před 10 měsíci

      To be honest, most of the bikes I’m seeing now are Di2 compatible in the bar/stem. It’s just a small hole by the lever for the cable to enter the bar, and another at the stem clamp for it to exit. It then just routes through the stem and out the bottom. As I say, a lot of cheaper bars and stems offer this.
      Worth taking a look at your options.
      Jon
