Time to save money for this bike!

I bought the 2021/22 version of this gravelbike last year. it's my first (real) bike, so my experience only goes so far (+- 6000km / 3700 miles).
First off all, I could not think of any better starter from my perspective. You are free to go were ever you feel like whit this bike!
Because I life on a pancake (Holland), I chose to go for the GRX400 2x10. Gearing: Front 30/46 (FSA Omega) & in the back 32/11, this makes for a great allrounder.
The Kenda Happy Mediums give a lot of confidents on damp forest grounds, on the tarmac there oké.
Slap some lighter rims with 28mm tubeless slicks on it and your flying! At least I think so🤪.
    Tubeless?
YES! Those Wilier rims will work with a tubeless setup, I'm only 1 month in so a disclaimer! Try on your own risk!
I installed Stan's no flats tubeless valves, Schwalbe 23mm rim tape & Continental Revo fluid.
    Tires:
    1. Schwalbe G-One Allround TLE 35mm, I was surprised it could hold air at 5 bars without any sealant! It probably helped that they were installed tubeless before on my second set of rims.
    2. The new Schwalbe G-One RS TLE 45mm, Pain in the ass to setup tubeless with only a floorpump but when setup with sealant seals great.
The RS's are really fast on the straights and dry conditions. I can't comment on Wet/damp conditions yet.
Last Saturday attended a MTB tour of 55km that had a combination of tarmac, gravel & 2 large sections of hard sandy beaches. For these conditions there were blazing, it felt like I was riding on tarmac all the way.
EDIT: The biggest short coming is the durability of the FSA crank set, 4500-5000km in the crankshaft got worn in and won't stop creaking ever sinds. Changed it for a Shimano GRX810 with a 4iiii powermeter. Maybe a little overkill, but ones a techsnop you can't go back. Help!
Greetings from the Netherlands! Keep up the Informing video's, it helps a lot to speed up my learning proces when wrenching on the bike!

Hi Rick, Thanks for all of the detailed information, really helpful. I was pretty sure the wheels were tubeless, as I’ve seen them advertised as such, but Wilier pages don’t say one way or the other. The Schwalbe Allroad is a fantastic tyre for the money, super supple and grippy. 👍

Where was the ride? Lake and canal settings look great. Thanks for vid. I gave up cycle bikes a couple years ago and now use a gravel bike forroad and tracks etc…so flexible and can go further and faster on varied terrain.

I have the 2019 Jareen, brilliant bike with a slight 'old school' paint scheme
Wilier make beautiful bikes......I may be a little biased though as I have 3
Thanks for the video, not much content on these bikes and its a shame

Hi TheBoDangles, Agreed, it's a great bike. I too am a big Wilier fan. The most beautiful bike I've owned was a Wilier, a white GTR. Its replacement is 'Technically' better, but nobody ever says "Oh my, now that is a pretty bike".

Very nice. One could argue a bike like that would make a perfect uk winter steed for most people.
I'd be interested to see what you think of 1x and flat pedals if you were to go for a purely road ride v your regular road bikes. See whether you enjoyed the experience or not.
    Enjoy your new toy!

      Hi Pigeon Poo,
Funny you should say that, the owner of this new bike didn't like the feel of the flat pedal when out of the saddle on climbs.... Not confident on whether her feet would stay on the pedal. Oh, and yeah, would be a great winter bike too.

@@ribblevalleycyclist if you get 2 mins, look up the new Hutchinson Challenger TLR. Just got them on my winter bike (winter? it's still 17c), and the marketing bs may..... may be true. Pig to fit tho.

I have a gravel bike and decided to go with flat pedals and I like the versatility. When I rode 30+ years ago I had clipless so I do appreciate them.

Great video! Would you recommend this for a first do-it-all bike? Comparing with the Diverge as the other option - thanks

    • @ribblevalleycyclist
      @ribblevalleycyclist  Před měsícem

Hi Vilav, The short answer is, Yes! If you're not bothered about road speed, then a gravel bike is a great all-rounder, because it gives you the flexibility to ride almost anywhere, and if you get one with mudguard (fender) mounts, like this one has, then you also have the option for both mudguards or pannier bags. The only thing I would say though, is that this is what they call a 1x, which means it only has one cog on the crank, so you're never going to get up to great speeds on Tarmac.

Think I got a better bargain from Wiggle that's just turned up- Vitus Substance VRS alloy with carbon fork....FULL GRX 2x10 (30/46 by 11-34, much better than a 1x), DT Swiss GR1800 wheels and decent 40c tyres that are tubeless ready. In "Small" all the bars/stem/(GRX)crank length/seatpost(layback) are spot on for me and it's a gorgeous "midnight blue" colour (Willier colour schemes must be marmite- my mate bought an E-MTB in silver/yellow/red...ugly AF)....and the price? At 30% off a mere £979..... (Paid for with a credit card... just in case... and it's back up to £1099 already!)....I own one Vitus road bike and the quality is brilliant- frame's even get properly prepped....

Th e owner looks very stretched out in the riding shots - what is the reach etc? does it have a particularly long stem as stock or maybe the owner is shorter in upper body?

Well observed. Yes, it’s a little stretched. The stem is 80mm, so not a lot of movement

@phosphore7991 Yeah, think the stem that came on it is pretty long. You’re only 2 inches taller than her, so may be a close one between small and medium.
