    Love the honesty, too many channels hyping this up & although the design/features & concept of this mower is amazing, it's good to know how it ACTUALLY runs. How did you convince Home Depot to replace your batteries?

    @johnrobson1309 Před 8 dny

    That's pitiful. I usually cut at 2" with my Cub Cadet and it takes about 7 gallons to cut 4.3 acres. I could have cut your yard with 2.5 gallons easily..even at 2 inches. My tank holds 3.5 gallons. Basically I'd be on the phone with somebody if I couldn't finish 1.6 acres at 3 inches on low settings. It should survive 3 acres on high settings. Probably a bad battery somewhere in your machine..

Most likely a loose wire or electric contact issue. The deck still spins. There is no error message. Help is greatly appreciated. I have no means to send in for service (under warranty) and I need it asap!

    Your claim that it cost nothing to run this mower. Sorry, you are wrong. If I bought a gas mower and bought a 300-gallon tank and filled it up at $3 per gallon. I than filled my gas mower from that storage tank for a year. My cost of running it would be $900. You have batters that cost ???? and a charger and a rechargeable generator. That cost of all that is your fuel cost to run your mower. That is the truth. Take the cost of generator and batteries along. cost thousands. My est. is $900 a year for me. How many years will it take for my cost of gas to match your cost of the initial investment in batteries and generator? A guy buys a boat for $40,000.00 and say he is fishing and eating fish for free. I buy fish at fish markets at $20 buck and eat the same fish he catches. Who spent less to eat fish?

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane Před 14 dny

      Howdy, not sure exactly what I said in this video from a year or so back, but lets get scientific! My "generator" to charge my batteries is our electric company, FPL. There is no cost besides the "charging" costs. The charger came with the mower purchase so my initial purchase includes what I need besides the actual power that costs me roughly $.14kWh. That "rough" cost factors in the base usage fees etc. The total kWh these 7 batteries hold equates to 4.32 kW. (x3 80v 10Ah = 2.4kWh & x4 40v 12Ah). Taking certain factors into account we can say it costs me about $1 to charge? Maybe math is really off but I believe I'm being generous with the round up to $1. That $1 of charge allows me to cut my entire 2.2acres with an average of 25% left in battery life. So $.75/mow I've paid NO other costs up to this point now 2years later besides $45 replacement blades. I've replaced a few cross-cut blade adapters that were free due to warranty and Ryobi just being cool about it. If we want to use some basic math the Yearly "Fuel/Electric" for an Electric mower Vs Gas with Weekly Mows... $4/mo for the electric & $14/mo for the Gas Zero turn (assuming 1gal allows 2acres in gas) so $120/yr in fuel savings. BUT getting detailed like you did there are obviously world costs. Such as the need to drive to go get your gasoline because it's not like you have a fuel tank sitting on your property. But truth is we don't need to get technical. The cost of this mower has dropped a bunch and the engine of a zero-turn will definitely have more maintenance long term. But at least it can be fixed with some good ol labor and time.

    • @603me.
      @603me. Před 14 dny

      @@LifeAsDane Even at current prices, let alone when they came out, the average person will never break even on these. Gas would need to get a lot more expensive to achieve any reasonable payback period, and that assumes the batteries last long term. The spring black Friday deal was the first time they were price competitive with comparable gas machines, so if you were willing to gamble on battery longevity, it makes sense. I just picked up the 30" today on their close out deal for $799. That's definitely worth it, even if the batteries have to be replaced in a couple years. But at $900/battery, it's a pretty big gamble at regular prices.

    Early in my 2nd summer with the 30” version. I really don’t care for it. Joystick isn’t accurate, tends to get stuck in uneven sections of the lawn, mulching performance is terrible, difficult to hold a straight line over rough sections ( most of my lawn) , a pain to change the blades. Had an old Dixon gas ZTR for 20 years, this doesn’t compare on any cutting or control capabilities.

How hard are they to install the blade adapters, if they do break? Again, 11 months later, how do you feel about the joystick? Would you buy another mower with it?

  • @captaincobb8146
    @captaincobb8146 Před měsícem

    Okay... I cannot talk too much [poopoo] yet, because as of 06/03/24, I have yet to get my Z42Li [06/05/24 I should have it]. But I will say this; When I first got my 2010 Toyota Prius last year, it had been sitting for months. When I first started driving it I was only getting 40mpg. But that soon changed. A few months later I started seeing 45mpg, and now I'm getting 55mpg. I'm just saying... These batteries need to be used. They hate sitting. So I ask? How long did your Z52Li set before your "maiden voyage"? Also, I am sure that your run time will increase. From @2:55 to @4:20 I watched the Fast Forward run, twice. I saw in many cases that you were overlapping by 50% or more. And sometimes running over the same places that were already cut many times. So, how can you blame the run time on your bad choice of a cutting path? Can you see what I saw? I did like your video a lot! It explained a lot in a no-nonsense video. And, I too wonder why the 40V died first... what if you needed to use the 40V for a blower or grass whip? But it was your "Maiden Voyage" and batteries are weird. This too may change as the batteries get broken in and the PC learns.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane Před 14 dny

      Hey CaptnCobb. Great observations and feedback. The overlap i'm sure was happening being my first time using a mower this size and getting used to the joystick. I should do a followup video of 2yrs later. Because your comment about using the batteries seems accurate. I've also improved my ability to navigate the yard smarter and with less overlap. At this point I'm able to have about 25% battery remaining after my 2.2 acres. I have added some raised garden beds that take away some sqft but at the same time I'm still having to navigate them a little more and it's probably a tradeoff. Still love this thing!

      @captaincobb8146 Před 13 dny

      @@LifeAsDane I have had my Z42Li now for a little over 2 weeks. It came to me in the factory shipping crate, so I had to put it together. I'm 67 years old and handicapped. I have a bad right foot from a motocross wipeout, in July of 17, in a federal courtroom, I was declared permanently handicapped. Being it's my right foot, my love for mowing grass turned to hate. Now I can enjoy it again, due to the joystick. Due to my handicap, I use my Z42Li for a lot more than just mowing grass! I use it when walking the dog, visiting neighbors, and going to the store/bar. Because I'm federally legally handicapped I can, and did, put a one-foot by one-foot aluminum wheelchair sign on the back making it legally my wheelchair. LOL

    Thank you for the video. Very informative. Helping me make up my mind. I would really like to replace our aging 17 year old commercial Husqvarna 61" zero turn with a battery powered mower. Would prefer not buy a new gas powered one. But the technology doesn't seem to be there yet for a battery powered mower to cut my 2 acres plus my neighbors 2 acres dependably. Our grass, no offense, is much, much thicker and lusher than your yard seems to be. Can't see that mower or the Ego being able to handle it. Especially when the grass grows like crazy in the spring. Plus it doesn't seem as though the long term durability is there. Don't want a mower that needs to be tossed after 5 years. After watching this and other videos I'll likely try to get ours through a couple more tests and hope the technology improves and matures. Thank you again.

Sure would be great in our pasture area though, but going with 43" You think it would follow same review as your 54"? Of course, it has less batteries and less cutting area so I'm not expecting the same battery performance.

I was only interested because they had it marked $6999 reduced $3499 to an actual cost of $3500. So I immediately came home to watch the reviews. I was assuming I would see tons of reviews bashing this product. Can you think of a reason why they would have it marked down like this. Wow.. I saw them the other day at my Local HD for $5,000 and it's best price i've seen. That's a crazy good deal for the 54"... I don't work for Ryobi but I don't know how anyone shopping for a zeroturn could pass that up $3,500 if they had remotely considered it.

    I'm with you Doubting Thomas. 1st Ryobi 80V 42" cut went back from whence it came. As it was indicating 75% battery supply available 80V batts still holding at 100%. It sez right there on page 28 of 33 page pdf Owner's Manual that the 40V batteries "help extend" mowing time and that the 80V Briefcase Batteries are the primary power source. I'm paraphrasing. My replacement 2nd unit is not showing much difference. LCD showing 75% while 40V batteries confirm and 80V batteries showing hardly being touched at all, indicating 97%. Original MSRP $6000 marked down by $2000. If I can live with the dolt in the White House I'll suffer no less with this Ryobi 80V ZTR.

    I tuned in specifically to see how U dunnit... remove the adapter. 80VLi 42" ZTR --First cut and at a time when batteries were down to 75% I hit a red house brick. Bent the blade, sheared the moon and half moon off the adapter. Brand new mower as of last evening delivery. Finished the mowing having also removed the upper blade on the utter side; don't want an imbalance. I conclude them thar blades to be considerably thinner than the standard single blade machines. Never bent a blade on my Hustler Rapter 42" ZTR and I used it like a bush hog.

    I have been using a Ryobi 40v push mower on my little 1/4 acre yard for 2 years now and I will NEVER go back to gas. Way less maintenance and way more convenient. I can easily cut the yard with about 50% left on the 6Ah battery that came with the mower.

    First a little back story then the update. About 2017, I bought a Toro 42" Time cutter. It was a great mower. The only issue I had was the normal yearly battery replacement the first 2 years. I put a battery tender on it and the next three never bought a battery. Anyway I was 71, retired and started gaining weight so I sold the Toro and bought a Ryobi 40v push mower to lose weight. That lasted 2 months and I tore the meniscus in my left knee. After surgery, i tried to mow as often as I could but the pain is too great and I am tired of paying someone else to mow. So, I decided to make this purchase. Home Depot just delivered my new Ryobi Z30Li. I bought the 30" because my yard is so small. about 1/2 acre. It came mostly assembled. When I looked at another one in the store, it had two 80v batteries and two 40v batteries. Mine only has the 80v batteries, and they were both less than 10%. It would not move. What kind of store delivers a riding mower that cannot be driven? I had to go to my shed and get the two 40v, 6ah batteries from my Ryobi push mower to have enough power to test drive it. It upped my battery meter from 10% to 36% After putting them in, the blades turned one time for a few seconds and I shut them off. I drove it around a while, boy is it gonna take some getting used to. The blades would not turn while driving since the 80v batteries are so low I will try again after charging. Currently, the joystick is very stiff, quite an arm workout, and it does not self-center, which I consider to be dangerous. I hope the battery charge helps this. I had to park it at my back porch to charge it before driving it to my shed. I will re-evaluate everything and get back to ya when the batteries are fully charged . That brings me to my.... UPDATE: I really did not expect to update this quick. It took a couple of hours to charge the battery, so now they are all full. While it is a wet day here today I decided to try it out anyway. I used to mow my yard wet with my Toro all the time, So I had a basis for comparison. I rode up and down the driveway, then the street in front of my house to test the high speed. It moved pretty good but the stiff joystick made it hard to control. But I pushed on. Low speed into my front yard with the blades on high. My yard is not the smoothest but it is smoother than most. I found trying to mow a straight line was next to impossible. Hit a slight bump on the wet grass and the mower takes off one direction. Try to correct with the joystick and it does nothing at first then takes off the other way. The lines on the yard were no where near straight. Yes I know it is wet but I have done it before. I lowered the blade speed to finish my test and the yard. The lines gradually got a little straighter but the tires were chewing up the yard. I have a flag pole in the middle of my front yard. I could not circle the pole like I did with my Toro. I could not trust the joystick. There were times when it would lose traction. it would not turn left or go forward on flat level ground. I could go backwards just no control over turns, but I would get it moving again. There were times when the mower would stop, so I would apply a little more forward joystick with no results. then a touch more. The mower would lurch forward. I did this several times. My Toro would take about 15 minutes tops to mow the front yard. Today took about 30 and the batteries were at 50% When I headed to the back yard to park it. I tried to back it in the shed several times. It would not back straight for love nor money. I finally pulled forward into the shed and hooked up the charger. So here we are. Decision time. I realize that most of these issues would improve with practice and never using when wet. but the joystick still would not self-center and that is dangerous. Suppose I were to pass out while driving and it kept going into the street or the creek across the road. While it was charging I had to make a run to the store. While out I swung by Home Depot to see if there were any adjustments for the joystick that would smooth it out. They shop out the warranty work so I could not talk to anyone. I went back to the lawn mower section to look around when an assistant manager walked up and we started talking where I filled him in on this. We decided I could get a Cub Cadet 42" zero turn 'for the same price. The fact that the mower could continue on if the operator became disabled was the straw. This is a safety issue and is non-negotiable. If the driver was disabled but still in the seat, it could be a big problem. They're picking up the Ryobi on Monday. I know this is long but maybe someone will appreciate the detail.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. My results and feeling on the joystick is mixed as I never used the standard zero turn setup before. It is somewhat challenging to keep the straight line but I've also noticed the hardest time to do this is on uneven surfaces or bumpy parts of the lawn while going at a decent speed. What did you replace the Ryobi with?

    • @ntmd8or100
      @ntmd8or100 Před 14 dny

      @@LifeAsDane I settled on a Cub Cadet ZT1-42 inch. Same price. It maintains a straight line and I don't feel like I just finished an hour doing curls. Since it's more stable than the joystick gets the job done in 1/2 the time. Granted the Ryobi was a 30 inch so there is a time difference there. My back yard is on a hill so I never even tried the Ryobi back there. With all the trouble I had with it on the smooth front yard, I didn't t want to risk it. Hearing what you say about the joystick, I'm thinking, let a fighter pilot try it. 😂😂😂
