      Just broke another on mine. I think I'm at 5 broken in 2years. Not sure of you've seen my other replies since making this video but they did seem to change from aluminum to steel on these. Now I'm down to 1 aluminum and running 2 of the newer adapters

    I tuned in specifically to see how U dunnit... remove the adapter.
    80VLi 42" ZTR --First cut and at a time when batteries were down to 75% I hit a red house brick. Bent the blade, sheared the moon and half moon off the adapter. Brand new mower as of last evening delivery.
    Finished the mowing having also removed the upper blade on the utter side; don't want an imbalance.
    I conclude them thar blades to be considerably thinner than the standard single blade machines. Never bent a blade on my Hustler Rapter 42" ZTR and I used it like a bush hog.

    I appreciate these videos. I bought the R 54" 80V and have had it for about 8 months. I've had this same issue with the blade holders and have had to drop the deck and reposition the blades EVERY MOW. I'm glad to see there's the replacement part!

      Another watcher made a comment that they just drilled new holes and bolted the blades on. It's a solution but may damage motors if blades can't dismantle at a certain stopping force/pressure. But yes they seem to be aware this a part to have on hand. I'd call and just say you need one to have on hand

    • @tylermorgan3433
      @tylermorgan3433 Před rokem

      Yea it seems like every time I hit a tiny rock the blade adapter breaks or the blades get bent. They need to make thicker blades or maybe a bush hog blade attachment that isn’t to heavy for the mowers

      @@tylermorgan3433 I just bought a couple dozen of the OEM blade holder adapters. Ryobi turned me on to GARDENER, Inc., who makes them (you have to call in, though. They cater to dealers and don't have a regular consumer site). They're cheap. I also bought a PowerBuilt gear puller from HD to easily pull the offending part off. Lastly, I bought ramps and a car jack to lift the entire thing up and exchange the adapters or blades without removing the deck (which is a workout). I use a Ryobi impact wrench to properly torque the 15M nuts.

    I sort of wish they'd just include these brackets as part of the blade replacement kit. Went to replace my blades and all 3 of the brackets required replacement so now sort of SOL until those brackets decide to ship.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  Před 8 dny

      Agreed. I think they're well aware they designed/made those adapters wrong. New material on the more recent ones shipped to me.
      I think when people call in for a replacement they shoukd be sending people 3 at a time.

      I would love to see a pic of that. I use my zero turn and a riding mower from Ryobi for my lawn care business and it seems like they’re always breaking in the middle of cutting so it’s very annoying

    One of the 48V deck motors on my 42" burned out, but the blade and adapter did not break. The deck motors just turned off after 3 seconds or so.
    It took me the large part of a day to disassemble it and find the bad motor, but when I tried replacing it this morning, the blade adapter would not budge, even though I disassembled the motor's other side, and the soot from the windings got on my hands.
    I had to buy a 3-prong gear puller to get the blade adapter out of the bad motor.
    The plastic motor covers are annoyingly hard to manipulate. You have to guide the 3-phase power cable through the holes, and the bolts are hard to get through the case top's two holes.
    As a bonus, I pressure-washed the mower when it was disassembled.
    Now I just need to reinstall the blade and reattach the deck.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  Před rokem

      Did the bad motor get caused from running over something? Also did Ryobi work with you for a replacement? I'd imagine for something like that they'd try and get you to bring it somewhere.

      @@LifeAsDane I think I ran over a raccoon or something.
      I do not have a trailer to transport the mower for service.
      I did not bother with Ryobi support.
      I found the (secret) service manual and tried out the diagnostics myself.
      At first I thought it was a bad motor controller, but when I replaced both motor controllers and it still didn't work, I suspected a bad motor.
      I then bought a new motor and tried it by plugging it in without fully installing it. It stayed on with the other one, instead of turning off in 3 seconds. That's when I confirmed that the old motor was bad, and so I replaced it.
      I successfully mowed around 3 acres yesterday.

    How the heck did you get your blade adapter off? I hit a branch or something the other day and sheared the little half moon - but I can't seem to pry off the adapter. Tried PB blaster and tried the wrench and mallet combo - no luck so far.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  Před rokem

      That is a great question. Not how I'd have liked but thankful for the steel deck. Used a thick wrench wedged to top of bracket and underside of the deck and a bunch of mallet whacks to underside of wrench. Let me know what you manage to come up with.

    I bought some of these adapters on PartSelect. Same part number. They are 1/8" thicker though so the nut cant be fully threaded and the key doesnt engage on the shaft. Can anyone shed some light on where to find the right part for a reasonable price?

    At my 25 hour check i noticed they all seem to be broken. I dont know what could have broke it. Im tempted to drill it out and use a shear bolt. I feel liek this part may be too weak.

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  Před 11 měsíci

      Oh wow. It'd be running rougher for sure but yes, I think these parts are cheap but I think they are meant to protect the motors as well. We'll see. I don't see how they could make them much better without redesigning the blades. I do need my blades sharpened

  • @user-sr4bu1zx7h
    @user-sr4bu1zx7h Před 3 měsíci +1

    The same thing has happened to me I think.. the deck randomly dropped on me and then when I had the blades on there was a different noise coming from the blades then what is normal.. like a louder rough vibrating noise. I just looked after watching this vid, and one of my blades dont have the half moon or the circle piece sticking out... my question is, what does that part do? im still running the mower with it missing, so am I damaging the mower?

    • @LifeAsDane
      @LifeAsDane  Před 3 měsíci

      So these "cross-cut blade adapters" hold the blades in a perfect position. So depending on if it's loose or just has broken tabs the blades have the chance of moving around a bit and you'll notice uneven cutting. You will need to replace it to eliminate the vibrating. I drilled a new hole through both blades while positions and used a nut and bolt but even that didn't hold long. I suggest you ask ryobi customer service for them to send a couple. I think they know this is an issue that is becoming very common. They say it's safety related which it may be. I could see the motor burning up if the blade didn't give when hitting a large stump or something. Either way those adapters were made VERY cheap. Almost felt like aluminum replacing them. Funny thing is the most recent versions they sent me around Christmas are at least DOUBLE the weight than the stock ones. So I personally believe they are trying to strengthen these adapters parts. Won't surprise me to see them being sold in 3 packs soon.

    The blades are driving me crazy. If you hit the smallest root it bends the blade and destroys it. My adapters don't have hollows in the posts like yours does. Strange.

      Really... interesting. When did you get your mower and did you go 54"? Im wondering if they are starting to reinforce these. They are made to break they told me as to not harm the motor.
