CARAVAN SERVICE Why you should get a service and what it involves
Getting your Caravan serviced regularly is important for many reasons. Hopefully this video will show you why and what checks take place during a caravan service.
Our caravan is one year old and its first service is due. Time to remove the last things from the van and take it in for its service. Fingers crossed it passes all its checks and does well on the damp check.

Wet and Miserable at the Caravan Storage
I wonder what the best time of year is to have the service? We have ours done in August, primarily as it is the anniversary of buying it. The appointments are easy to get as everyone is either using their van, just about to, or have just come back! There is always a high pressure for appointments early or before the season. I think I would choose August anyway! We are never away in August as we avoid school hols etc. So is good for us.
@@davidlewins4631 we had to have our done now due to it being a year since we bought it, though it would be good to choose the month
battery test tick. got one . battery compartment tick .got one.(loose connections) !!!!! dont matter . could just set caravan on fire.
@@paulbower5274 😢
I have been advised by a caravan engineer not to use the quick release connectors the do not make proper contact, told to get the proper battery connectors, hope this helps. Great videos.
@@robertpoulter8220 yea, they seem a bit rubbish, especially on the under floor Bailey batteries
Have you not got a mechanic on site to do servicing? that is so much easier, as for power loss doesn't your solar panel keep battery charged. How much did Wanda charge for service?
@@paulhill4457 the service is doing at the same site as our storage, and they move it to the workshop, which helps. We don’t have a Solar panel on this caravan. The service was just shy of £300. Thanks for watching 😀
Hay Ho Hello, thanks for sharing your video, maybe your battery is not fully charged because of those battery connections are loose ?, there are a few vloggers who have done a video on fitting a solar panel to their own caravan, that could be worth checking out, 👍👍.
@@busterboy7505 you could be right. Need a solid connection but something I can easily unclip when I need to remove the battery
@@heyholetstow solar panel Is the answer we have tracker and the voltage has never dipped below 12.5 volts Battery in the caravan was always a bad idea from Bailey one of the reasons we changed brand, as for £300 for a service of a caravan of your size that is seriously expensive, you need to get some quotes from elsewhere my tugging friend.
@@paulhill4457 we did shop around and £300 seemed and average sort of piece
Another great vlog guys. We have a one pot too they are great
We are low tech on checking if we are level too, ours lives in the cutlery draw. Great vlog again guys.
@@alandciskasmohotravels thanks
I am confused as you suggest that a 99p spirit level is the same as E&P self levelling. One measures whether the van is the level, the other levels the caravan for you. I assume you are having a joke?
@@colinbennett3433 yes, there was an element of tongue in cheek when we said that 😀
I have one of those fridge control protectors to give away at Rob and Lynns charity meet. A gift from someone I have done some 3d printing for. Can you let me know the model of fridge you have please? Spend £1000's on levelling system E and P! 🤣. Thanks, Andy and Kim.
@@tanksontour I will have a look at the model. 😀
Loving the posh pot at the start! and I totally get where you're coming from with the USB sockets, although our caravan has mysteriously got three sockets on the lights (supposed to have two) so that's just enough for us. And yes, I'd much rather pay a few pennies for a spirit level than thousands on ENP (which you can't use in certain situations, anyway, plus wakens the neighbours up with all the beeping if setting up late at night). PLUS, if we had ENP on our Discoveries, that would be most of (if not all) our payload gone!
Yea, ours had 2. Was going to get the dealer to fit a new one but they wanted to charge £100 or something. Silly.
Hiya...Great vlog ...really useful..where did you get the perspex cover for your fridge please..?
@@louisesmith4370 was just from eBay if I recall, only a few quid. Comes with Velcro fasteners and stuff

Hi. Interesting vlog with some great ideas. I’m also now trawling eBay for the cover for the controls on the fridge but without success. If anyone can find the item can they please post a link. Many thanks. John.

Teflon!! 🏴☠
@@cedriccottage2070 is Teflon dangerous? Just checking on the internet and they say modern Teflon is fine. Is it supposed to be bad?
@@heyholetstow Unfortunately yes. There is a lot of coverups, but if you'll deep dive into reputable scientific studies, you won't touch another forever chemical again. Not for your sake, not for your grand children, not for generations to come... We loved our kitchen gadgets but were notified of this issue, did the research and gave them all away and replaced what was available with stainless steel, glass and other lifeonearth-friendly alternatives (avoid also the "ceramic" and similar coatings, all coatings are scam, only solid ceramic, stone etc are good). Btw, we found really good mini-oven airfryer in Lidl with all stainless steel accessories and it's far better than any other airfryers we had in the past. Best of luck and please share if you'll come across any handy gadgets free of forever chemicals.
Love the hytric - we can see ourselves getting one of those, great idea.
@@helenandjohnsadventures do it!
Great Vlog team Hay How. That fridge cover was a god send for us, on our old caravan it was under the sink and we were catch it all the time.
@@CaravanEscapades101 yeah, the simplest and cheapest things are sometimes the best solutions
What’s the point in caravanning… without a motor mover! 🤣
@@LangSara to be honest we’d get rid of the caravan and just travel around the country on the motor mover 😀
Where is the plastic cover for the fridge from please? I could probably make one, now you’ve suggested it, but it looks like you bought this.
@@user-go7zt9hs2r we got it from eBay but with a bit more skill than I have it could be easily made 😀
@@heyholetstow Thanks!! Mine arrived today! Shows the power of influencers like you😉!
@@user-go7zt9hs2r never be influenced by us 😀 thanks
Hi Guys That many gadgets these days!! I once tho forgot my spirit level so when we got unhitched on our pitch I got a glass of water filled about an inch below the top and levelled caravan that way. If you’ve got an equal water line around the glass your level. Probably more accurate than some of the cheap levels on the market these days. Mite try it with a glass of lager if I ever leave the level at home by mistake again 🤣
@@jerryrollinson8216 does it help if our drink half the lager? 😀
Just keep drinking ….not be bothered then if it’s level or not 😂😂

Is the Seat Ateca ok for Towing ?
Never had any issues (apart from the tow electrics issues we had, see the playlist on the channel). Can’t tow the big caravan but find for most small and mid-caravans.

I can go with the mint choc chip but never understood coconut ice cream
@@heyholetstow I love anything coconut but some of the coconut ice cream in mallorca is the best
Hope you enjoyed this and played along. How many did you guess? What is your favourite ice cream?
Are those the fitted carpets from Prima Leisure? If so, how do you rate them? Also, did you have any problems putting on the Nemesis wheel lock? We have the same one, but I just couldn’t get the long bar to fit - it seems too long no matter which spoke I put it through. Thanks in advance - and fingers crossed for the service.
yea. From PRIMA when we got the caravan. They are pretty good. Dont seem to slide around, decent quality, quite light. Nemesis Wheel lock is temperamental with us, sometimes fits in places okay, sometimes takes a couple of goes, Usually to fit the lock. The bar usually fits somewhere. Odd that yours doesn't

As our van is in storage I can’t pre chill the fridge so frozen and chilled food goes in cool boxes and cool bags. Remember the fridge won’t chill down on 12 volt it’s just to maintain the current temperature of the fridge. As we normally go off grid as soon as we get there the fridge goes on gas and chills down really quickly.
Yea, same so our van only gets cool when we plug into the site mains. We rarely use the gas.
Great Vlog guys and thanks for joining in the fun 😀. We have always packed the fridge before we leave milk, food, veg, salad everything and never had any issues with it when towing. In fact we have all the caravan packed when we go if we have time to put things away before leaving. Keep producing great content and hopefully we will see you soon. James 😀
Thanks! I think we listed all our mistakes. All we could admit to :)
You think you made mistakes buy your first caravan then changing it a year later we on our fourth caravan in 2 yrs so don’t think you mistake was bad also going on another mistake I picked up our 3 rd caravan first trip out I hit a parked car and put a big black rubber mark down the side of our brand new swift
4 caravans in 2 years!!!! wow! Thats mad! Why?? :) Which ones did you go through? I always worry about clipping something and damaging the caravan
@@heyholetstow we started with a Baileys Orion French bed just couldn’t get use to it so went for a new Elddis Avante really loved the lay out but we found out it was built in 2022 not 2023 and had major issue and they weren’t interested in sorting so I had to part exchange it for a local dealer for a Swift what a mistake had so many issues in and out that we finally exchanged for 2 year old Bailey Unicorn Vigo great caravan (at the moment) !
Years ago with our first caravan we were booked on a caravan site in Herefordshire and reversed onto the electric hook up post - slight damage to the caravan and fortunately we didn’t knock out the whole site electricity - very lucky. On that same site our greyhound escaped and had to be brought back by another caravanner and again, on that same holiday driving back on the motorway, the electric cable dropped and started dragging on the road surface. Fortunately someone came alongside in the next motorway lane and pointed down to us to let us know that sparks were flying 🙄. It was a memorable outing.
Nightmare! I would be stressing so bad. We all learn from our mistakes and stuff going wrong. So we've all learnt a lot :)
@@heyholetstow every day is a learning day no matter how old we are❤️
Our mistakes, over a year and a bit of caravanning: - filling the water system, wondering why it's taking so long? (Yeah, helps if you close the drain-down valve first 🙄) - more than once I've ALMOST broken the break-away cable that I forgot to detach before moving the car away . - we had the jockey wheel issue on our way to The Nurseries in march this year. First time we'd towed for such a distance from home, and it just worked loose over time. Spotted the 'Easter Egg,' by the way (or is it just your latest 'caravan mishap?') - the CZcams symbol in the background is upside down 😂 -
We have done all those! Forgot to mention the top two! oops. Yeah, the upside down YT sign. Thats Mrs Hey Ho having a Mrs Hey Ho moment :)
