Boat bathroom fit out.
In this video we fit out the widebeams bathroom. The wide beam is a 65' x 12.5' widewide beam boat. We have done many videos now on the fit out of this boat and we are coming to the end of the fit out. This video is one part of two. We have recorded the process of the prep work carried out and painting of the bathroom. In the next video we will be fitting the bathroom with cupboards and shelves and all of the finishing touches that's going to really make this bathroom look something amazing.

      Yes I remembered to put inserts in. I used to run a building company so I do have a fair few skills. I would have preferred to use copper as well. I much prefer the process. The problem is using copper on a boat when the engine is running, it doesn't matter how much you secure the pipe back. It vibrates and makes an awful racket. Plastic pipe is much more forgiving.

    • @markjones1337
      @markjones1337 Před dnem

      @Inspiration2022 yeah, all that vibration probably not good for copper joints. I'm half way putting a copper warm air pipe through the boat, surface mounted at ceiling level, only time I run the engine is when driving the boat so not a big problem for me.

      @@VintageDieselCenter yes, I'm sure it's always happen. I'm sure there was a time when narrow boats started to have diesel engines in. They were hated too by the people that still had horses to pull them along. I personally try and be kind to everybody I meet. I also think it's a massive attraction to have all types of boats on the water. I have people come up to me quite often to see if they can have a look around and nine times out of 10. I show them around the boat. It really is a lovely way of living and very low impact on the planet which I try and impress on people when they're having a look around my boat or just chatting to me.

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 2 dny

      Couldn't agree more. Wide beam boat owners should always be mindful where they more up and also narrow boats should also be mindful of wide beams trying to pass them too. I come across narrowboats quite often moored up on bends just before a bridge with no consideration of other boaters, especially those in a wide beam.

    I cant see the point in having a widebeam unless you have a family. I dont have a bubble checker, not essential

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 10 dny

      Well for me having a wide beam it's great having a lot more space. Having a family on board but also if you want to be totally off grid. Having the extra space for solar panels and extra water and being able to run your boat with the normal appliances you would find in a home. These are all things I wasn't able to have living on a narrow boat. I didn't even have a washing machine on my narrow boat so I was forever taking my wash into a laundrette or my mum's. And having to continuously run the engine every couple of evenings to keep the batteries charged I really didn't like that not only was it not good for the planet but the noise just used to really get on my nerves. Now I have the energy to run all of the appliances without any concern and I never after put the engine on to charge the batteries. The bubble checker it's really important. I'm surprised you don't think it's essential. Every time I change my gas bottles I always check my bubble checker. Not only is it part of my boat safety certificate to have it on board, it's peace of mind knowing I haven't got any gas leaks or gas accumulating in my boat. You may want to look into this. Do you live on a boat yourself?

My wife and I have a ten year plan which culminates on spending a few years on either a widebeam or dutch barge, and with cost of diesel being what it is to me it looks like solar panels and maybe a generator and an electric motor would be a no brainer, but the fact that not everyone is already doing it suggests there is something I am missing! Great outcome, looks fab with the array of panels, really smart.

    Can never have too much solar 😀. It just means you can use more power during the day without affecting the batteries reaching 100% by evening. When you are painting the frames of the old ones. If you have some of the roof paint left then possibly paint the mounting blocks the same colour as the roof. Would make them stand out less and might give the impression they are steel the same as the roof. It may also deter theft if it looks like the mounts are steel welded to the roof rather than plastic. It would also reduce any UV damage or ageing of the plastic. So then you wouldn't have to mess about treating the old ones and trying to get them to look like the new ones. They would all be the same colour as the roof. Also if you have one charge controller for the new panels and another controller for the old panels then shading on one set won't affect the others. It would also give you some redundancy in case of a controller or panel failure. If you keep the old set of batteries and add them to the new set, then combined with the large amount of solar, you may be able to look at more power hungry devices. Not sure what sort of heating you have but nearly 5kW of solar should allow things like heat pump heating and cooling. An efficient model can give 2kW of heat output for about 350W of consumption. We use one on our house to heat and cool a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area, it works very well. But you would have to check how they work in your local weather conditions. We have a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and it has been faultless for about ten years and whisper quiet. The outdoor unit is mounted on the wall just above the outdoor entertaining area and is so quiet I can't tell if it is on or not. Even being able to run smaller loads 24/7 without having to worry about them depleting the batteries overnight. Things like a security system with cameras. LED lighting that can be left on when you are not around to make the place look occupied.

    I've seen quite a few boats now, yours is cool. No one ever mentions internet, how does that work? Obviously you are managing to make videos for your CZcams, do you need to pop into the nearest internet cafe or do you have something else?

      I'm about to upload a video about this subject. So watch out for that. I have great 5G and 4G signal and my signal strength can be up to a gigabyte a second in some places, but quite often. It's well over 100 megabytes a second so plenty adequate for running everything on the boat. I have internet enabled thermostats light switches, smoke alarms and cameras that I can connect to anywhere around the world and I do quite often. So I needed to find a good solution for the internet. Are you a better or thinking of becoming one?

      Hi, thanks for getting back to me so soon. At the moment I have no boat. For the last 12-18 months I've been considering a change, I've looked at van conversions, old buses, plot of land with a yurt! Lol! So many options out there. Most too small (vans/narrow boat) or too remote (yurt). Then I found the widebeams, mobile, spacious and like yours elegant and versatile. But you know, lol, you gota have tinternet lol!

    What a load of tosh! Wet weather equals muddy tow paths - you have a wide beam and expect all to give way! Go into a marina and stay out of the way & rules are for all so STOP moaning and making out is CRT at fault!

      It sounds like you've had some bad experiences with white beams? Do you live aboard a boat or do you have a holiday boat? And what part of the country are you from and what are the conditions from where you are like?

    Crt monitor in kilometres, if you check on their website you can see if you have overstayed in the same kilometer, it's when the computer analyses your locations in close proximity and decides if you have moved far enough. Keep up the good work 👍

    surely if you move from one mooring to another one just a few hundred yards down the canal-that is acceptable... and then move back to where you preferred 2 weeks later.. and keep doing that if you really like a particular spot.... unless they have people from the canal and river trust patrolling the canals constantly-i dont see how they could enforce 24kilometers in one direction

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes they do patrol it all every 2 weeks. A canal and river trust warden walks the canal in their area and takes photos of your boat and upload them with the license number so they are constantly spotted on their system.

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, I think that is definitely one of their considerations and currently I'm moored up next to a boat that has been in the same place for at least 2 years and I think it has been abandoned. Such a shame.

    i would always prefer a widebeam. narrowboats are not big enough at 7 feet wide. but judging by the rooms in my house being big enough at 10 feet wide to fit everything in -that would be my preferance for a widebeam-and about 55 feet long

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 3 měsíci

      A friend of mine has got a 10 ft x 60 ft and he is very happy with it. I think a 10 ft wide makes it a lot easier to handle and you definitely will have more options of where you can go. Mum's 12 and 1/2 ft. Wide. And it definitely restricts me.

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 3 měsíci

      However, I do think it was the right choice for me and if I could get away with a 14 ft wide I would do

      @Inspiration2022 very well thank you 😊 Definitely more challenging then i though it will be , but getting there .I would say we are 60% complete , doing everything ourselves so far , youtube ,research and trying to think outside the box . We are on hard standing at the moment ,in 4 weeks time planning to get the boat to the canal. Not looking forward to painting, seen you was struggling, big boat isn't it 😆

      @Inspiration2022 Před 4 měsíci

      @@efkaster44 It certainly a task during the painting and I'm about to do it again as soon as the weather gets better before I add more solar onto the roof. I will have 12 panels and 18 leisure batteries. So plenty of power for all year round. One of the worst things I hate to do is put the engine on just to produce power when I know I can do it from the solar. Whereabouts are you put in your boat in and will you be in my neck of the woods Leicestershire?

    • @efkaster44
      @efkaster44 Před 3 měsíci

      @Inspiration2022 we going to Sawley Marina end of this month , we not self efficient just yet ,don't have solar panels and only basic leisure 🔋, so we need access to hook up . I'm sure once we finish the boat and start cruising will bump to each other 🍻

    Sadly the situation is not helped with the actions of environmentalists who seem hell bent on changing the canal network from being navigations to some kind of linear wetland as we see on your vlog how the reed beds are being allowed to encroach into the navigation/ canal. Also there are areas that these reed beds have become ‘protected SSI’s’ so the bed and dredging the canal bed is now very difficult or prevented by legislation.

    Do you think a narrow boat would have gotten stuck in the same place you were?

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, definitely as it was the silt built up on the edge of canal. And because of the flooding I didn't even know it was built up there until the level will start to drop again. What do you think? It would have mattered the size of the boat if anything. It helped that I was bigger and was able to shift my weight over into the deeper water.

      @@Inspiration2022 thanks for reply. We are tossing up between a narrow boat and wide beam.. any advice? 😬

    • @Inspiration2022
      @Inspiration2022 Před 5 měsíci

      @@Samantha-xr4mx I had an narrow boat before the wide beam. If you want to see all of the network and some of it is absolutely stunning, then a narrow boat is definitely the way to go. However, I chose a wide beam because I wanted more comfort and ordinary living and there is a massive amount more space. It's like living on a floating apartment. But with the size of a wide beam, it takes a lot more concentration and skill to handle. Bow thrusters are a must on the vessel I brought. I would highly recommend if you can go and have a look at narrowboats and wide beams and even better have a go staring both.
