- After one year living on a wide beam I let you know what I think the good and the bad.
I have truly loved fitting out my boat most of the time that is. Even more than fitting the boat out I have enjoyed the last year living on my boat whilst continuing to fit out the boat. However there has been some issues that I think people might not think about.
Such as..
The boat is a particularly big wide wide bean and when you need to move her you do have to plan a little bit more than you would with a Narrowboat.
Water can be a problem for any boat but it might not be so easy to turn around a widebeam. I carry a lot more water on board than a normal Narrowboat but preplanning this is a must.
Other boaters can also be an issue as some have strong opinions about the bigger boats being on the water.
Through the winter months or wetter months the tow path can be very slippy so we tend to head towards harder standings through these times.
In the video we talk about all of the other issues as well as highlighting the most amazing parts of living on a boat and particularly a wide beam considering it's so much bigger than a narrowboat such as been able to store more water and more roof space means you can produce more power not to mention my number one spot goes to Deeno to move and having the freedom that boats give you.

I several narrowboat channels and I’ve noticed a bias against wide beams. If you’re paying you fair share you have a right to go where ever your boat fits. I subscribed, my first wide beam. Think maybe I’ve been little bias , also. I’ll work harder on it.

I love being on the river with mine, 16 years in now and still love it. Gets harder as time and age goes on doing all the work especially rubbing down then painting, its the rubbing down that is the killer. Also fitted out mine as well, spent ages planning it prior to committing, would do things a little different now like windows and maybe solar like yourself. They say it takes 3 boats to get it right and I think that is correct. Built two now and if I had the time energy and money the 3rd would be just right.

I love how some folk think they have more rights over others using a public waterway. Is it jealousy or stupidity? That’s the question 😂
I do believe that int the Uk even under civil law the burden of proof would be upon the canals and river trust to show you that you haven’t moved, a complaint even with time stamps unless from there own investigators may be taken as true except if you could show a reason why you hadn’t.

Great video. My house is built right on the canal. We are now really seriously considering selling up & buying a wide beam. I didn’t realise that wide beam boats got grief of everyone though. What is the problem with wide beam?
One of the best things I've ever done. We absolutely love being on the boat. I think a big part of it is jealousy Which is awful to say but it's only appears that way.
Very useful and informative. I am thinking about living on a wide beem. Can you tell me about living on a river such as the seven. I will be doing the continuous but concerned about winter. Any information would be appreciated. Good luck mate 👍
Usually in the winter I make for the areas with hard standing footpaths so I don't get too much mud in my boat but apart from that and watching the the water levels. It's very comfy and we never get cold. We have a log burner and full century eating which works off the solar power most of the year and currently we also have air conditioning that works off the solar through the summer.
Are you buying a boat done or are you considering doing up on yourself?

@@Ian-tk3rq good choice but when you go to buy one if you get one built for you. there is a certain amount of tax relief for a 12 and a half foot with some companies so I would look into it. you can save quite a lot of money.

Do you ever regret getting at full 12ft wide beam? or wish you got a 10ft instead?
Hi. No I'm very happy with the size of my boat. It makes such a difference being bigger.
what kind of toilet do you have? If you have a pump out, where is the storage tank located in your boat?
It's a simploo separating toilet. This means it's separates the fluids from the solids. There is no need for a holding tank for the fluids as they are pumped directly out of the boat automatically. The solids are kept separate and disposed of.
I find it a much better system to a holding tank that can smell quite horrific
@@Inspiration2022 have you seen those incinerator toliets? expensive-but that would be my preferance. most practical to use.
@@user-te1hi9rx7b yes, I've looked into those myself and the only reason why I didn't go down that route is apparently they're not very economical to use.
Is cruising single handedly any more difficult / easy compared to NB??

Still no tour?? 😂 what’s the point in the build up to all the steps of it if you’re not even going to show us the end result. Most of us have never been on a wide beam and would be interested in how much space etc. it’s usually the first/main thing all the other narrowboat channels do. There’s been sooooo many videos now and you still haven’t shown us. You will lose audience dragging it out this much.
