  • In this video we navigate with our widebeam inspiration I will wonderful 65' x 12.5' canal boat from Kilby Bridge all the way to Birstall in Leicester. On the trip we come across very tight bends and even tighter bridges. We also come across part of the canal system that was completely taken over by weeds. This almost stopped us completely in our tracks.
The trip started at 8:30 am and we were travelling all day and eventually tying up about 530 at night.

Have you considered putting in some red light LEDs to illuminate along the side of the boat, for situations like this, use red as this helps you not loose your night vision,
The bat poo yes that may be a problem but the cow and sheep wee by the time it’s gotten through the many layers of rock sand shale mud etc, will probably be cleaner than the water out of the water dispensers you use on the canal side (assuming they’re attached to the mains)

What happens if you meet a widebeam coming the other?

The canals are usually wide enough for two to pass. If it's a particularly narrow bit, They're usually is a pulling point, not too far away.
