We are building a log cabin with logs we harvest and peel ourselves. This is our first time to build a log cabin so we will probably make some mistakes along the way. If all goes well, the plan is to use it as a vacation rental as part of our semi-retirement plan!
We live near Hot Springs, Arkansas, so it is a beautiful area. Lake Ouachita is only 4 miles away. There is so much to do here, boating, kayaking, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking.
Our videos will cover the cabin build from start to finish. We are using the full scribe method. We are also peeling our own logs and making use of smaller logs for floor joists, rafters and furniture.
Cinda is an artist so she will be featuring some of her wildlife art as part of the cabin decor.
Our cabin is now available to rent on Airbnb!! Here is the link:

Faux wood grain texture. How to refinish a door with fake wood texture. Recycle used door, furniture
Faux wood grain texture. We demonstrate how to use simple inexpensive tools to transform a used metal French door into a beautiful faux wood door! We purchased a set of hurricane doors from habitat for humanity store for $150 and you won’t believe how good they look now! This was our first attempt at a faux wood finish. It is fairly easy and loads of fun to do. It just requires a little patience and some cheap tools. We purchased ours off of Amazon. We bought a set of 6 different sizes for $16 but we only used 3 of them. Give it a try, there are so many uses for this technique.

Great video thank you very much. Do you by chance have a materials list?
What about for winter time because the coup have a lot of ventilation
I absolutely love this and I have to say, you both did such a fantastic job ! . This makes me wish I had chickens (girls) again. Love the coop; did you design this yourself and how do I get the plans?
This relationship is my life goals ❤
Thank you! It takes work but is definitely worth it 😊💕
It is natural that this wonderful couple succeeded in building a hut because they have already succeeded in the greatest challenge in life, which is to continue their married life happily. I wish you all the best, blessings, health and wellness. I was so happy to watch you.
Thank you so much!😊💕
You should always always have full coverage on a vehicle

what breed are your chickens?
We have 9 sapphire gems (the gray ones) and 5 black australorps. They get along well and are super layers. Very good natured too.
I love the angled roof and I will be doing mine just like this!
Yes, it’s easier to build and great for collecting water for the watering system. Hope you enjoy building it!
What state are you building, and what Lake are you on?
We live in Arkansas. The cabin is about 4 miles from lake Ouachita. It is almost completely surrounded by national forest, so you can’t build there anymore. Which is nice, it is a beautiful lake and you can camp on the shoreline or on the islands. 😊
Hi Guys, liked your coop so much that I built my own using your design with small modifications
Nice!! Hope you enjoy it, it has worked well for us!😊👍👍
What kind of trees did you use?
We used southern yellow pine that were growing on our property. They are old growth, so most were about 60 years old. They have to be treated with a good wood preservative stain. We used Q8 log oil. We have a video on that too.
This video helped, I didn't lock one. Thanks
Glad it helped! We did the same thing the first time!😊
Just set mine up. Hooked up to B-300. I turn on and only batteries come on. The controller dosen't power up.
I see you already figured it out, but for everyone else, be sure the connecting cable is LOCKED before turning it on. It is a common mistake 😊👍👍
This guy must own a lumber mill, impressive but totally overbuilt
Yes, we have a small woodland mill. We have quite a few pine logs left over from building our log cabin and some that we got for free from a local tree cutting service. So yeah, why not?🤣🤣 You could definitely build a lighter weight version if you wanted. The clean out feature is great though. Just open the doors, put a wheelbarrow there and rake it out. Done in just a few minutes 😊Thanks for watching!
I watch these videos to see how people have done things. I constantly think, "I wouldn't do it like that" and "why didn't he . . . " But, I learn, so I watch. I enjoyed YOUR video here, primarily watching the two of you work together. You guys are a good team. 😄
Thank you Paul!😊

Chicks by mail. Horrifying.
It’s the only way to get certain types. There are no hatcheries near here. Other than buying from individuals. Even if you hatch them yourself, there can be losses due to them crowding together or other factors. Just facts of life.
Very nice job on the doors
Thanks Gary!
I thought you two were done with you tube. My mistake.
We have not posted much due to life issues. Lance just had a shoulder surgery so he is going to have a few months recovery time. And my dad who is 93 had a stroke and is bedridden. Mom is caring for him at home so she can’t do that alone. The joys of getting older😬Hope you and your family are doing okay 😊
Life does get in the way my mother died a few months ago . We have a cottage we didn't get there till August ,we were so busy with my mom. All the best to both of you.
How did your backpack sprayer hold up to the stain?
It didn’t hurt it at all. In fact I left it in there for a few days. It washes up with soap and water. It washes out of your brushes nicely too. 👍
What are dimensions of coop?
It is approximately 8 feet wide and 18 feet long. It would be just as easy to make it 20feet long but that would not fit our space. We used 10 foot boards for the rafters so there is an overhang on both sides.
Omg I love you guys. Your kind to each other and encouraging and that’s wonderful to see! Great job on your work too!
Thank you so much!! We do love working together 😊 Thanks so much for watching, hope you have a great weekend😊
Found your channel through the Western Log Homes Supply website. We are also building a log cabin home for rental property. We've also traveled through Hot Springs, Arkansas and it is a beautiful place! Wish you guys the best of luck. But serious question, how are you guys liking the Outlast Q8 stain? we are getting ready to decide what we are going to put on ours. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.
We are super happy with it! It is the easiest stain we have ever used and so far it is by far the best! It does take longer to dry, but that is actually an advantage as you don’t have to worry about overlap marks when you apply it. It soaks in rather than staying on the surface so you never have to worry about it peeling off. Another thing that we like is that it still allows the logs to dry so you don’t have to wait for them to dry completely before you stain them. We have friends that used a different product and they have had all kinds of problems with it. I think you will love it. One note…they have test samples of the different colors that you can try on your actual logs. Be sure and do that and wait the recommended 2 weeks or so as the color mellows out quite a bit as it dries. They will reimburse you the cost of the samples if you order the stain. Have fun building your cabin and stay safe!😊👍
@@natureartgirl thank you so much for replying. This was very helpful. We are gonna order some samples asap
Where do you get your logs from are they locally sourced? Or do you dry them yourself
We cut them ourselves. Most were smaller pieces we had left over from building our cabin.
I’ve watched all your cabin build videos and can say you guys are making it happen! I’m 40 and I don’t think I have the same steam you guys have lol. Great job on the whole project :) looks amazing.
Thanks Gerald! It was definitely a good workout 😂 We learned a lot and had a blast building it but we weren’t in any hurry to start another one 🤣
That window would work good in a greenhouse. Beautiful door.
Yes, or it could be used for a cold frame. 😊👍
Beautiful work, both of you! Nice to see you again.
Thank you!😊
Long time no see! The doors look fantastic as well as the porch. I didn´t know that tool. Congratulations and thanks for the video!

Hi Guys...... I see you're well, and i'm happy, when is the next log homme? Ciao from Dolomites. 👍👍👍
Hi! We probably won’t start any big projects for a while. Lance has to have shoulder surgery next month and that will take a good while to heal. Hopefully he will be able to get his strength back before too long. Thanks so much for watching!😊👍
@@natureartgirl Best wishes for the surgery operation! 😄👍
Of course i was joking abaut building another a log cabin.I realize that we are no longer anymore. Best wisches again. 👍
Do you sell plans for this coop? We are planning to build one and this is a perfect design for what we need.
Hi! We don’t have plans for it right now, but it isn’t too hard to figure out from just watching the videos. Most of the measurements aren’t too critical. Just basically a big box with a roof. If we get plans drawn up, we will be sure to let you know 😊

Thanks so much Mira! We really appreciate your support over the last few years. Yeah thanks! We definitely had our doubts too. 😂😂 But a new set of French doors was $4000 so we decided to take a chance on it. After cutting a big hole in the side of our house we were kind of committed 😁😂
Welcome back my friend, nice work on the doors, congratulations on coming back

Where are you been? Nice to see you. Love your project.
Thanks! Lance has been having some health problems lately. He’s doing somewhat better now. Had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands so he’s able to do a bit more already. He is going in for surgery next month for a torn rotator cuff, so that’s going to put him down for a bit. Hopefully he will get a good 100,000 mile overhaul and then be good for a few more miles!🤣🤣Thanks for your concern!💕
Cinda, could you use a tooth brush for finer details. Great to see you both.
Hi Tom, yes, I think an old toothbrush would work perfectly for the small details! It would be easier to hold than the little brush I was using. Thanks for the suggestion!😊👍👍
You both are blessed with such talent - Everything you do is beautiful!!! I missed watching your videos.
Thank you Lynne! It was really a lot easier than I thought it would be. So much fun to see the crazy patterns those cheap little tools could make. I still can’t wrap my head around how it works😂😂 The hardest part was being patient enough to let it dry properly 😂👍
Glad to see you both are well, we missed you.
