It was in the mould of a presidential debate in the US which, for me, that is no way to run a debate because you can’t give reasoned arguments in 45 seconds soundbites. I would rather not have debates at all if they are going to run like that or have question time type programmes with questions from the audience, with each main leader, one after another.

The Conservative idea of National Service is so bad it is mind boggling. A long dead idea which no one wanted, dug up and placed like a rotting zombie at the front of a manifesto. Sunak style leadership. If you wanted to drive your own supporters away this is the one to do it. Campbell radiates hypocrisy like few ever have, as for accusing others of lying 🙂🙂🙂🙂. He is famous for it. After all these years Campbell continues to be one of the people leading "The Great Sulk" over the referendum. What a mean minded pathetic figure he cuts.

It's such a shame that, seemingly, in the modern Tory party there appears to be no place for a moderate, centrist, one-nation conservative like Rory Stewart. I mean, I wouldn't vote for him, but at least he seems to have a vague sort of vision about how he sees the country going forward. Unlike every other Tory I've ever heard speak!

  • @whatisourchildrenlearning

Oh look breaking news, treasury civil servants distance themselves from the £2k claim. Its because it came from a Conservative think tank calculation, which is a political interpretation. I think the host failed to control Sunaks petulance, but the fact he bulldozed her does not reflect well on him. People will also raise the point about attitudes towards women. I think it was better for Starmer to lose this debate and win the election, rather than engage here and disengage many more would be voters.

I'm tiring of the brexit bashing. I still believe that brexit wasnt the real issue and as well as causing problems it opened up multiple opportunities. (imo) The implementation of it by a Boris government was the problem. I believe it should be back on the election talking points but as how the Tories have failed to utilise it and how it should used for our betterment. We eport to the EU as much as we did before brexit. We are now in huge free trade deals. Why hasnt this impacted on our economy is the question we should be asking.

Starmer didn't come across as good as I'd hoped and Sunak was far too arrogant. Neither really impressed me, but the format wasn't great either. Too many interruptions and talking over the other one. Starmer should have shut down the £2K tax issue right away or people would start to believe it.
