We just discovered your channel. Welcome to Maine! So glad you found a home here. We also homestead in Maine and built our home from scratch…at 70 years old. And I just gotta say…you discovered right off that rocks are our Maine crop. Raised beds are our solution.

Yeah Daniel that park doesn't surprise me. Maryland is a goofy state. I stayed at a state park there and got bitched out for putting our tent on the ground. Turns out they intended we pitch the tent on a concrete tent pad. Pretty goofy place.

I forgot to add that my homestead cabin was built of cordwood cedar. My original plan here this time was to make a tiny home village but changed the idea because we like our little farm here without people.

Hey Bud I was going through homestead videos and came across your page. My family and I bought a small farm stead here in Hodgdon and getting the feel of everything. I have seen you around town and didn’t know you had a channel. Anyways just wanted to say if you need a pair of hands s some help let me know. I ain’t much of a people person but I understand the effort needed to make things work. I built a homestead 20 years ago in Cary Plantation from scratch sold it and moved back to Florida. Moved back last year and bought my spot. Anyways that offer stands respond and I will give you my number

I know it's 6 or 7 years too late, but never underestimate the value of a few $2 clear plastic drop cloths from the Walmart paint department. Tie them in the corners and use them under and above a tent to help waterproof. They weight next to nothing and if they tear they're dirt cheap. I use them with my hammock on river float camping trips. If I do the trail I'll probably use a hammock with a bug net and have a few of those plastic sheets on hand and a rain poncho with grommets and a waterproof bivvy sack for times when there are no trees to camp on the ground.

I found your channel on a search for Maine Homesteading channels. We're planning to move to Northeastern Maine in a couple of years. Hiking the Appalachian trail has always intrigued me. I think you're quite inspiring. It's great to see people act from their critical thinking and their soul and inspiration, rather than letting fear rule their lives. There was nothing but my melanated Aboriginal Turtle Island and/or African relatives in Maine; the Eastern Woodlands were our lands for centuries. Most of them are on the reservation or areas where they were able to keep some ancestral land. Glad you're back caring for the land! My Puerto Rican old man and I have been looking for 5 to 10 acres of land to live off grid since 2016. The CV hit and realtors got folks sooped-up: 40 acres for $15k in the Aroostook boonies suddenly went up to $35k. So now we're like, 'WTF?' - there goes our plan. We're not going to give it up though because this is where us poor old folks need to retire. To return to the land! I'm just not feeling folks selling property for 5x over the assessed value. 🤷🏾‍♀️ ------------
