Man builds Tiny Home Alone in the North Maine Woods

- I recently moved to Northern Maine on 10 acres to start a community homestead from scratch with no prior experience.
I started the process by clearing off the overgrown brush and cutting down trees. I arrived on June 20th and took a few weeks handling the paperwork side of things at my local Town Hall and prepping the land for the build as well as starting a small vegetable garden plot and dodging deer flies.
Towards the end of July my building permit was approved for the cost of $20 and I had my first material delivered on August 8th, 2021.
I put my front door on October 23rd and the windows in about a week before that. Both my dogs and I had been living inside with no door or windows for a few weeks and since the mornings were getting into the high 30’s they were a welcome sight indeed.
I installed my wood stove on November 5th and my Sofa arrived on the 11th. While the house is not finished 100% , It’s definitely HOME. I’ll tie up the loose end once we thaw out but the most important thing this year was making sure me and the pups are warm as temperatures in the negatives F° are pretty normal in my area. It’s -6° as I type this but it’s a nice 72° inside so i’ll take that as a win.
I built this home with no plans and just kind of designed as I went. I made sure to watch the positioning of the Sun from the time I arrived so as to use it in my favor in terms of window lighting and solar setup later on in the build. I did however, reference Bush Radical’s CZcams video numerous times on a small cabin build and modified that design for my foundation.
Specs:
•Tiny home is 150 sq. feet, 10’x15’.
•Back and Side walls: 8’ Front wall: 10’.
•Oven: Camp Chef portable outdoor oven. Uses a 1lb Propane canister.
•Wood Stove: Winnerwell Large Nomad tent stove
•400 Watt Renogy solar system with 2000 watt inverter and 200Ah Deep Cycle AGM Battery.
As I mentioned in the video my loft (portaledge) was gifted by my friend Conrad Anker.
BUILD COST:
Total material cost: $5,000
Solar: $1,300 - Zábava
We just discovered your channel. Welcome to Maine! So glad you found a home here. We also homestead in Maine and built our home from scratch…at 70 years old. And I just gotta say…you discovered right off that rocks are our Maine crop. Raised beds are our solution.
I'm screaming inside right now because I want to be there, but this f@cking universe has other plans for me. God bless you Sir. I'm truly jealous. I hope to make it there before I drop dead.
peace brother! much love to you and i hope you get there as well.
EXCELLENT JOB 👏👏👏👏
I greatly appreciate a persons hard work and skills in building initiative ‼️💯

I know this is hard work but it’s definitely inspiring. Disconnect from this crazy world and creating your own oasis is super rewarding. It’s so peaceful and serene. Kudos to you for getting off the “traditional “ road map and not being afraid to think outside the box. Love the adorable pup! Keeping doing it, this is living!
much love Tia!!
Good to see you again. Staying near the trail is a good choice for the soul. Greetings from Ellijay

I love watching your progress but this video was the best. All lined up, showing all your hard work.
I think what I love about your personality the most - you seem chill *and* you do things the right way. Like you don’t cut corners just to avoid hard work. I absolutely love seeing you blow away the stereotype of a lazy mellow person.
Nahh can be mellow AND hard working. I love it.
I loved the way to pat your foundation pillar. That just exudes satisfaction and care.
Also at 31:00 with the moose - well at least it wasn’t a huge owl creepin around you 🤣😘🤘🏽
yes i want to change the narrative that stoners are lazy🤝i do all my work stoned lol. and haha yes so glad it was a moose and not a great horned owl 😭😭🙏🏾

Omg i watched you hike 4 years ago and never expected to see any more videos after the trail life got busy and i stopped watching youtube for a bit and just found out you have a new project. I love it. The climbing loft thing was a good idea i might have to use when i build my own house
