Weird associations time: In 1977 I was 10 and I'd been mithering my mum to take me to see Star Wars for weeks. Then, on the night we were finally going, Baker Street came on the telly and I was captivated. I insisted on hearing it finish, despite mum complaining that were going to be late for this "stupid space movie you've been pestering me about for weeks". Result? Star Wars and Baker Street are inextricably linked in my mind: every time I hear that sax solo, I see Luke Skywalker's landspeeder zipping across the deserts of Tatooine. You should check out the lyrics to Baker Street: they're really clever at capturing a very particular feeling of "urban disillusionment". I have been told I sound like Josh. I had no idea my voice could sound like that until a karaoke session a group of us went to at a convention. Our group got the song Elvira. The first time I sang the "giddy up, bah ooom boppa" every head in the place pointed at me. So, the next time it came around I held the mike a little closer and leaned into the lines. We got a big round of applause and I became embarrassed by the attention.

Oh and to me even though Vince Gill can sing and has made a career of it. I put his guitar playing up there with the elite 1% of all time. When you close your eyes you can hear his guitar singing with words almost. Just like Prince can do and Hendrix. These guys are on another level that very few can achieve.

1978, a transitional year for me and this song was the soundtrack for that year. This song is musical ear candy, and it is one of my all-time favorite songs that I have loved for decades, I love it even more now.
