“Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis.” - Jack Handey
"It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man."
"I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it."
You should watch a larger compilation of “Deep Thought by Jack Handy.” It’s quirky & brilliant.
“The crows seem to be calling my name”, thought Caw.
When I was a child, I would ask my father why is it raining? And my father would say because God is crying. And I would ask why is God crying? And my father would say, because of something you did.
Jack Handey
Jack Handey is a freaking legend
Brings back memories watching SNL in the '90s while in high school
"If I ever fell off a tall building I would go real limp and try and look like a dummy. Then people would run and try to catch me because hey, free dummy." I've forgotten so many things in my life but some of Jack Handey's deep thoughts will be with me forever.
Jack Handey is an unsung comedy hero. There are dozens of these and they were completely unique and outside the frame. I have a coffee table book of them. Dude is a secret legend. Similar to Steven Wright.... one punch knockouts out of where in the actual f did that even come from.
"I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man with no feet. So I took his shoes, it's not like he needed them..."
"One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late." - Jack Handey
“Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and you'll have their shoes”
There are zillions of these, all funny. Rabbit hole!
I agree! I always thought the Jack Handey stuff was hilarious! She definitely should try more. Lol
“When I think back on all the blessings I have been given in my life, I can't think of a single one, unless you count that rattlesnake that granted me all those wishes.”
Jack Handey, Deep Thoughts
Oh the irony of deep thoughts! Check it all out, sarcasm at its finest
Nothing tears a family apart worse , than a pack of wild dogs.
"If a kid asks where rain comes from I think a cute thing to tell him is,"God is crying" And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did." Jack Handy
It's an SNL short. Jack Handy would drop these "deep thoughts" that were shallow or ridiculous or both as if they were pearls of wisdom.
Jack Handey wrote comedy with Steve Martin decades ago, if my memory serves. Deep Thoughts is classic gold 😅
I think a compilation of these would probably be a better representation.
Hmmmm 🤔
Yes, find a compilation! Hilarious, less than 30 seconds stuff. Definitely a forgotten gem of that SNL era.
I second the motion. 'Deep Thoughts' is good stuff.
They're so hilarious. They're from saturday night live and they're just little inserts place within the shows 90 min.
Ok, having some context helps!!! LOL, thanks!
I think if I ever fell out of an airplane, I'd go limp and act like a dummy. Because, someone might see you and think, "Hey! Free dummy." And catch you.
@@tonyberezowski7859 YES! THAT!
Welcome to the underrated brilliance of late 80’s SNL! More Deep Thoughts!!!
These were always fun. There should be a compilation of all of these. :)
This was a very long running short on SNL. Some of them were really great. You could milk this series for years! 😂😂
That's the plan!
RIP Phil Hartman!
Oh my goodness. old “Deep Thoughts” of SNL are great! Please react to more. You will start to love them.
Jack Handey was an SNL writer and I loved the Deep Thoughts bit back when I was a kid in the early 90's. One of my favorite Deep Thoughts is him talking about taking his kid's to Disneyland.
That's also my favourite 😂
My favorite is the Disney Land one 🤣
Me too
Jack Handey was a writer / humorist who wrote Deep Thoughts for SNL for several years. He came up with these little gems and read all of them himself. If you could find a video collection of his thoughts and hear many of them in a row, you'd get the joke. :)
Before even watching this video, I've shared it with my 4 sibs.😂
I like SNLs skit. "Lowered Expectations"
Lol😂😅😂😅😂
My favorite part of SNL, back in the day.
I’d like to be a dandelion weed flower thingamajigger
HAHAHA SAME!!!
Man, I love these. You have to watch a few to get into the rhythm of them. I can see where your very first one would confound you.
I'll check it out!
"It's sad that a family can be torn apart by something as simple as wild dogs." -Jack Handey
Handey was one of the prominent writers of SNL back then. I listen to the podcast from David Spade and Dana Carvey and they bring him up a lot.
I always loved the Deep Thoughts segments.
Britt, he made these into a best selling book
As others have said, it's a filler segment from old SNL & they're just ridiculousness. All of them. I had the 'Deep Thoughts' of the day calendar as a kid. One I remember was (paraphrasing): 'I think a fun thing to tell kids is when it rains, that it's God crying. And if they ask why, I like to tell them it's probably because of something you did'
Deep thoughts by Jack Handy are super short. Yet she still stopped half way through.
Hence, the funny.
You could do these as shorts, there're some good ones.
Good idea!
Dumb millennial doesn’t get the sarcasm of an icon. One of the best parts of snl jack handy’s amazing poetry. lol
There are many deep thoughts. And it’s obvious by the ending it’s from Saturday night live. It’s A skit. Hence the laughter at the beginning. If helps. However I agree with you this isn’t a deep thought…more a critique…lmao… still is funny cause it’s so silly.
This was a random 30 second bit sprinkled throughout the show. They're deep thoughts, not meaningful, but deep. They're supposed to be sarcastic and quirky.
No. Please do not act like this didn't happen. At the very least, they're short. SNL had a similar one call "Fuzzy Memories" by Jack Handy. Also short and WTF?! It usually seems to be themed around finding humor in something that just isn't funny. It's kind of brilliant, imo.
czcams.com/video/pjyy4tYZFDc/video.html I personally have never heard anyone have an audition like this. This young lady is absolutely brilliant. So so so good
