    This is probably a dumb question but I think it would be wise to ask first since I don't know any better but would this work on wood projects without destroying the piece?

    Helllo, would you apply body filler on top of the rust reformer if needed? Or you have to only apply it to bare metal?

    Vinegar will also remove mill scale on hot rolled steel… Just buy a tote from Walmart with a lid and buy a couple gallons of white distilled vinegar put the steel in the tote and cover it with vinegar and let it set over night and you can just wipe it off with a red automotive scotch brite pad. I just got a scotch brite clean and strip XT pro disc from Amazon the other day and that thing will destroy mill scale, paint and rust and it doesn’t hardly remove any metal.

    For rust removal on door panels (and similar parts) I saw a youtuber spray on vinegar but he then layed paper towels over it and re-sprayed it. He then used a wire brush and water to leave it as bare metal. It worked incredibly, but everyone should "test" these methods on scrap before you ruin "the actual project". I use 5% vinegar, giving rusty tools a 24 hour soak, but if I wire brush every 8 hours, I get even better results. After that initial process, I soak them again in clean water and add baking soda to neatralize the vinegar acid. Then I proceed to sand, then polish. Depending on the metals used in the making of the tool, I have achieved mirror finishes on forged metal and aluminum. The trick after all that work us to prevent rust from reappearing. For that I use oils and carnuba car wax. So far, so good!

    I’m no expert, but in my opinion you are only removing surface rust. The only way that I know is to grind right down to shiny bare metal, prime, then paint.. Rust will reappear very quickly if you simply paint over it. Our cars rust very quickly due to salted winter roads in Canada..

  • @willd9739

    Okay first of all another somewhat defective video made by somebody who has no idea what the hell they're doing, first of all use a plastic scraper because now he's going to have to go through so many processes to get that hood and the scratches out of it, filler primer then primer and so on and so forth. Cause more damage than anything and also if you care about your lawn, which this guy definitely didn't you should put down a plastic tarp and cardboard on top of the tarp. Scuff the whole area with 100 to 160 sandpaper wipe that down and then apply your aircraft stripper and then use a plastic scraper, make sure the stripper does not dry even if you have to apply more.

  • @mrgoodtimes05
    @mrgoodtimes05 Před 3 lety

    Here's a couple dollar saving tips: scuff the paint before applying stripper helps get under the paint. And once applied, drape a drop cloth over the area or whole piece it traps the gases in allowing stripper to work better. At the price of stripper it would cost $175-$300 to do the whole car. The paint came up ez. Should've took less than a can to do the hood.
