Jet Boat Hammer Creek to Corn Creek
Jet boat from Hammer Creek to Corn Creek on the Salmon River in Idaho. This is about 140 miles. Flow about 22,000 CFS on the White Bird gauge. This flow is ~good for noobs: rocks are mostly covered, and the waves aren't too big.

Looks like it was a great trip. Thanks for the video. Quick question how do you folks keep your aluminum diamond plate clean on your boat?
I've never cleaned mine.
River/Jet boaters not the problem. For the most part they have experience and knowledge. Now take your average Joe with the general bow rider/ runabout boats or wake boats and talk about hazards.
Thank you
Did this with friends 1977 in one of darrel bentz first boats.."In Dutch"..remember gas at macky bar was 2 dollars a gallon..we thought this was way to much...😂
I was working at a gas station in '77. 57 cents for "regular" (leaded) pump gas. Unleaded had its own hose, and nobody had thought of ethanol yet.
Wish we could’ve made it!! Dang it
After 6 years running this boat, and about 450 hours on it, my opinion regarding its strength when face-planting has changed. It is not as "stout" as originally believed. The dash region has been pushed down about an inch from original. This caused many cracks around the dash and stairs. Whether this resulted from face-plants specifically, or from general use of the boat is not known. To prevent further deterioration, bracing was added. Examination of other similar boat designs reveals that this problem is common, and not unique to this make/model. On the plus side, the windows did not cave in catastrophically as seen in weaker designs.
That looks like an awesome trip. Was it a club trip?
No. It was just an impromptu group.
Would a 21’ Duckworth with 340hp 351 and a stock 212 be appropriate for these runs? I’m a nooby, of course.
A noob with a 21' Phantom 350 with 212 and 2.4 impeller has run almost everything shown on my channel. Subsequently he acquired an 18' Riddle with 200 hp sport jet and has run everything with that. As a complete noob I ran everything with a 22' Clusterweld 460 Berkeley. It is important to have aptitude for identifying and avoiding hazards. To determine whether you have this aptitude or can acquire it requires... running the river. This in turn requires... dent tolerance.
That looks like a hell of a good time! Wanting to attempt it again.

Made it about five miles down from corn creek. Earned us a nice gash in the bottom and hole in the oil pan. Learning from you tube bad idea.
What was the flow, or the level on ramp?
I can’t remember off hand. It was the end of July last year so pretty low. I have since learned that speed lac of confidence and second guessing was a HUGE factor in the carnage.
Last year's flow record is in the 6K CFS White Bird range. That is low even if you already know the river. 12K is maybe a low end of read-and-run if you have good experience on other rivers. But running downstream first makes the task more intense, and you can box yourself into a bad spot. Depending on how far downstream you'd like to go, it may be worthwhile to start 95 miles downstream and run up at a bit higher flow. My general philosophy is go effing fast, and get into the flow state. But also be aware when slowing or scouting appear to be necessary; this may be indicated by that feeling of uncertainty.
All the stopping the video, just to narrate was making my ears bleed. The video was awesome when the flowing river was on the screen. It’s so hard to find videos like this. They are on CZcams, but extremely hard to find cause of the way they are titled.
You appear to be stating that educational discussion of routes taken is undesirable. Is this correct?
Very good
Post-video comment. When driving on an actually muddy dirt/gravel road (rather than just water spray on pavement), the splash guard is inadequate. It does protect the front of the machine, but the sides and even the seat get muddy. Part of this is spray directly from the truck, and part is ricochets off the fenders. To prevent this, the guards need to be approximately a foot wider. Another problem occurs when loading. The carbide ski runners dig into the softer aluminum of the back of the trailer. This causes the skis to "stick", and excessive momentum is needed to overcome it. This problem is solved by laying a piece of UHMW from the back edge of the trailer to the ground. Then the snowmobile slides up easily.
Canal de passagem
I contacted Gateway about the uneven tire wear and they told me it was because of towing it too low in the front and the torsion axles need to be level. Ended up flipping my 6” drop hitch to raise the ball 5” to get the trailer level.
True that level is necessary for torsion axles. My hitch is fully adjustable so my trailer is exactly level. Regarding my trailer specifically, even if it was not level, this would not explain why one front wheel wears much faster than the others.
@@idahoviking as someone who’s preparing to buy another one of their trailers because they’re the only option I hope they are fixing some of the issues they’ve had. Did you buy your trailer new?
Yes I bought the trailer new. This is actually a replacement (warranty of entire trailer) for my first trailer, which was much worse. It made a half bald tire during the 500 mile drive home. This resulted from excessive toe-in, which could be seen by laying a long straight edge along both wheels. Drive the trailer straight for some distance before applying the straight edge. It should lay nicely against the leading and trailing edge of both tires. Very small gaps are permissible, but I forget what this gap is. On this second trailer, I took the issue to Dexter. They gave me and two alignment shops the run-around until everyone lost interest. Based on their behavior, I will never buy another Dexter product. I am suspicious that there is a problem with the Dexter axles that manifests only when driving. Regarding buying a boat with a trailer, be certain that responsibility for the trailer warranty is defined (the boat or trailer manufacturer), along with failure modes and remedies. For example, if a tire wears more than XX in YY miles, then it has failed. Get an adjustable hitch and demand that either the boat manufacturer or trailer manufacturer set the hitch height. Then keep a log of all your mileage. Get a tire tread depth measuring tool. If a tire fails, then a replacement tire mounted on wheel will be shipped to you within 10 days. If more than 1 tire fails, then a replacement trailer will be driven to you and the warranty period will start anew. Etc. A possibility is to call Matt at Inland Marine in Nampa and see if he will build a trailer for you. I have no experience (direct or indirect) with his trailers, but it is certainly worth a call. Probably it will cost more, but so it goes.
I know of a 32 year old Tricker trailer that is in better mechanical shape than this. Minimal yet reasonable maintenance.
Another common problem is the boat hook up column cracking at the base. My 28ft twin has ran through two columns on a twin axel gateway trailer. Cracking at the base facing the neck on the trailer
Any design change between the first and last?
@@idahoviking just thicker materials and more weld contact points. Stress fractures are pretty powerful and seem to be reoccurring no matter what I do. I lined the base with some steel stake pockets I had laying around and that’s doing the trick as of right now
I have the same trailer with the same rims. My trailer eats the same tire and Gateway trailer customer service is terrible. I changed to bearing buddy and haven’t had any problems on that end at least. I’m looking around for a replacement trailer. Cheers, Wes
Your problem is that you're pulling your boat around. You're not supposed to do that.
Hooray!

Hello Viking. Great Videos... Can you recommend me a proper scaner for a KODIAK 6.2 DI? Think I have an electric problem. Thanks!!!
I had a Diacom on mine when it was new. I used this successfully to diagnose throttle response issues. Otherwise I can make no recommendation. I understand that less expensive scanners will work, but have no experience.
Thanks! @@idahoviking
Thanks for sharing. I’m working on a hull design in CATIA V5 because that’s what I have experience with. Interesting to see how rhino works. Please share more on your design if you don’t mind. I miss mean chicken, would have been a great place to share your design decisions and progress
I'm working with Rhino because it is relatively cheap ($1000 once) and it fills the most important need: unroll the bow into flat sheet equivalents. It took a few weeks to become efficient with Rhino's "way of thinking" and now I can proceed quickly but am still learning. I also looked at Solid Works, but their sales people and brief 2 week (?) trial period killed that thought. They do have a "first year for free" deal, but this requires learning a bunch of cloud-based BS that has zero value to me. If I skip the cloud crap, then the first year is half price. Forcing my hand into the cloud killed that deal. Missing from Rhino is any sort of tool path output for CNC Milling; but add-ons or other low-cost options may be sufficient.

Love the misspelling of Rapid and Tactical. Is it made in Lewiston at IP?
As magical as it may be in other regards, AI is poor at spelling. When I asked it to spell "rapid" and "tactical" correctly, it included the phrase "Rapiic and tactcal spelled correctly."
@@idahoviking That’s crazy. You’re very lucky. You live in a beautiful part of the Country. I used to live in Lewiston a long time ago. Loved it. I’ll be back in May for a visit. Probably not a good time to go up Hell’s Canyon, is it?

Instead of tired Christmas music (which I hate), this is a breath of fresh air. Nicely done.
In it's original form, the volume continued to increase to a full marching band and explosions. I decided this was excessive (even for me) and instead had the music cycle back through the initial whistling tune.

Just noticed the Korg O1/W in credits... a timeless gem, sounds fantastic
Indeed, Korg did the common false advertising at that time, which is now overcome (sort of) with Maize Sampler 2. Their basic deceit was in NOT stating clearly that the COOLEST instruments are made cool by processing underlying sounds through the effects bank; but, there is only one effects bank (effectively). This means you're very limited on simultaneous use of cool instruments. For example, really cool distorted guitar runs through a distortion effect, which means your piano and drum sounds will also be distorted. Which is stupid. There was no practical way to overcome this shortcoming 30 years ago. But now you just sample it into the computer, then put the sampled sounds into Maize, and magically you effectively have a clone of the Korg. The sampling takes time, but the alternative is to buy 10 old Korgs that may or may not function. Sampling also loses the nuance of key velocities, so you have to sample various velocities for full effect. And unfortunately, lots of people like old Korgs, so they aren't cheap.
Update: I just found a software version of the Korg Triton. The hardware version is about 10 years newer than the O1/W. Anyway, with the software version I can effectively play as many instances of the instrument as I please. So $99 gets me an unlimited number of synths. I'm guessing this will devalue hardware versions to near zero $.
Got so confused by this masterpiece. It went from normalish stuff to drangons, ships, sternwheelers, Vikings, and MICHELIN MAN!?!?
Indeed, I also asked for pterodactyls, but AI has a weak understanding of their physiology. For example, pterodactyls always have two wings and one head, and the head is attached to the body, and the head is facing generally forward at the front of the body. So the pterodactyl pictures went in the trash.
That was awesome!
Excellent beyond words, each and every scene
