    @ChrisSpiegl, for long, complicated programming sessions when walking would not be ideal, do you sit at the Walkolution Ära using a stool and the included backrest, or do you find that you move to a separate, traditional desk/table/chair? I'm wondering if the Walkolution Ära would be suitable as my only desk (I do a lot of programming but don't have enough space for two desks). Thanks

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 16 hodinami

      Yea, that is a situation… I did use a one-leg stool on the Walkolution as well as a gymnastics ball. Both worked fine. But I must say that for long programming sessions I found my regular desk / office chair setup more comfortable. When you find a chair that goes high enough, you may be able to get that going more comfortably. I just looked it up, something like this is what I'd try: www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7HJBGWF?tag=cstrax-20

  • @IsaacFromHK
    @IsaacFromHK Před 22 hodinami

    thanks for this review. One problem that few mentioned is that, if you use a laptop stand like these, and placing your external keyboard in front of it, the distance now to your laptop screen is further away, hence I can no longer use the screen with tiny text. out of these 3, which one has the shortest distance (from your external keyboard in front of the stand, to the laptop screen? (assuming it's a 16" macbook) Thanks

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 16 hodinami

      I actually think this is not a downside but almost a feature. Screen further away = better for the eyes and easier to look away. When text is too small (especially in the browser, but also in many other programs) you can just do a CMD+Plus and the text gets bigger (or use a resolution where things are bigger). I am traveling and currently can not measure any because I don't have a tape with me and only one stand.

  • @biwecka9114
    @biwecka9114 Před dnem

    Hi Chris, how important is the depth adjustability of the table in your opinion? Does your position on the Walkolution change a lot when you're changing your walking speed? I'm asking because I already have a motorized standing desk, but more importantly a computer hanging under the desk and a 30kg monitor setup attached to the back edge of the table. Therefore switching to the Ära desk does not seem to be an option in my case. I'd also doubt that adjusting the depth with this kind of weight on the table might not be as seamless as in your setup.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před dnem

      Initially, I only had what you are describing. A regular standing desk and the Walkolution. It really limits your options to stop walking because you can't pull back and just "lean against the back rest" while still being able to work on the keyboard. The other problem most standing desks have: they are not going high enough to accommodate for the Walkolution beneath, so I had to add one of those "sofa/bed tables with legs" to the desk to actually have the height needed for typing. So, overall: the Walkolution was a much better experience with the Ära desk. I can recommend you talk to Walkolution, ask them the questions you are having and see what their experience is with heavy monitors, and so on. They are eager to work with you to find a solution.

    Apple should make a native monitor app for this. This is arse in the pain. eQmac is a limited software and constantly crashes. Plus focused to manage sound only. At the other hand the external monitor brightness controls another problem too. Apple responsible to fix this BIG issue.

    Thank you for the nice comparison! Does this mean the Rode Wireless Pro is nowadays the best choice? It has timecode and internal 32 bit float recording. Or is timecode not necessary in times of advanced sync features like in Davinci Resolve 19?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 4 dny

      Depending on your production needs, I would say the Røde Wireless Pro definitely is the all-rounder solution these days. The Track E still has its place, but it certainly is getting thin air with the competition out there. The Timecode feature of the Wireless Pro is limited, though. That's when on bigger productions it just will not cut it. Especially because you can't really sync two Wireless Pro to each other (at this time).

    Will this work with Rode wireless Pro timecode capable wireless lav system? I own Panasonic S5ii and Rode wireless pro. Wireless pro receiver is capable of having timecode channel on One channel and two transmitter Left and Right channel in another channel. So can I just plug in my Rode NTG on one end of splitter cable and rode wireless pro receiver on the other end and have timecode compatibility? Rode transmitters have timecode built into it so I can then have seperate mono tracks from both transmitters and sky is the limit.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 11 dny

      I think the easier solution would be to get a TRS splitter cable with Left / Right separated. Then set the Wireless Pro to output Timecode on both channels. Then you connect: Left: NTG Right: Wireless Pro Receiver Timecode => You can sync all that in DaVinci Resolve (Premier Pro is lacking audio time code support at the moment). You can't get NTG + Wireless Timecode + Wireless Left/Right since the camera can only do Left/Right audio which is two channels and the NTG+Timecode+Wireless would be something like 3 or 4 channels.

      When you use a device like the Zoom F6, you do not need the timecode on a separate layer because it is automatically embedded in all the single tracks as well as the L/R Mix recording. This metadata timecode is understood by all major audio and video editing programs. And actually: much more supported than for example the SMTPE Audio Track Timecode, which for example, is not supported by Premiere Pro at this time.

      @@ChrisSpiegl That is even better. The new Deity TC Sync can export xml that works with Resovle, final cut, and Premiere Pro. So I guess F6 will work and I will only need one box for my Camera. Deity has caught up to Tentecle TC and it does the same but with a cheaper ecosystem. But I am interested in the Zoom recorders so I can complete my setup. What about any audio drift? Do you notice a audio drift when importing the files?

    What would be the best choice for someone looking into acquiring a shotgun microphone which will work best for on camera and off camera through Boom pole to an external audio recorder (zoom H6)? From looking at your video and others, I have understood that TRS to XLR is better option than to from XLR to TRS as TRS to XLR has better adapter options than cable options from TRS to XLR where these cables may not convert balanced to unbalanced signal properly and the camera always expects unbalanced signal. I was looking into MKE600 per Curtis Judd's recommendation as it comes with XLR to TRS cable but I am afraid about RF interference over long distance and in vicinity of such devices, lower sound quality, inability to check battery power level. I am on a budget on contemplating whether to get Rode Videomic Go ii as a dedicated on camera shotgun mic and Rode NTG2 as a Boom pole external recording mic or get just one mic: Sennheiser MKE600. Any advice will go long way, thank you!

      @ChrisSpiegl Před 11 dny

      It's difficult to give a recommendation since you described a lot but didn't say what your desired shooting scenario would be. The MKE600 is likely a good choice, and connecting it to a H6 via XLR is 👍. But connecting it to the Camera is something I'd only do with a very short cable (like 50cm / if the camera input is TRS). If you want to use a boom pole, then XLR is the way to go.

      @@ChrisSpiegl Hi Chris, apologies for being all over the place. My desire shooting scenario would be to carry a single shotgun microphone for outdoor use which will allow me to connect it to camera for sync audio and also give me an XLR option to connect to zoom H6. I intend to use this mic for outdoor interviews and field recording. My hope is for an XLR mic recommendation (even though knowing that zoom h6 allows TRS input through the XY capsule). This is so I can get one higher quality microphone capable of providing superior quality audio than buying one TRS and XLR microphones that are inferior. I was hoping to buy Deity V Mic D3 pro as an on-camera shotgun microphone and Rode NTG1/NTG2 as an XLR microphone but I am hoping to just single high-quality microphone capable of doing both. I hope this helps answering my question.

    So input on camera is 3 pins, I assume stereo, or just mono? Is it possible to write to the camera (with no "adapters" for xlr etc) timecode AND audio to left and right channels, right?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 12 dny

      the tentacle sync e has two channel audio. One for a mic and one for the time code. That’s when you use the TRS cable to go into the mic port. Tentacle also has dedicated cables to split that and have a proper mic on the mic channel. And they have cables for all kinds of other timecode systems.

    Hi all, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but I have one transmitter than seems way more sensitive than the other. Like holding them side by side, the levels look very different. And when I've recorded with others, sometimes, it sounds like one person is just short of a yell while the other person is nearly inaudible. Here's a picture of what I'm seeing. I installed it no pad, no merge, no safety

      @ChrisSpiegl Před 13 dny

      Hi, I'd try to reset the devices and then see if that changes anything. As far as I am aware, you cannot change the Gain on the transmitters individually (only as one gain setting on the receiver going to your camera). If that does not work, please reach out to Røde support.

    MacBook charger is pd charger which means it's output voltage can vary according to device connected. Pd charger is able to change output voltage from 5V to 20V ( 5, 9, 15, 20 ) Dummy battery doesn't have chip to negotiate with charger that how much voltage it need. So with dummy battery, use with dummy charger which can only output 5v or use cable which has pd converter just like shown in video

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 5 dny

      If only the Dummy Battery would have that protective logic build in… that's my criticism… but luckily, with USB-PD coming into almost all new cameras we will not have that problem again.

    Deity just made it even easier. TC-1 , Deity PR-2, one TRS cable and you arre done. The small recorder has timecode sync built in and is done wirelessly with the Sidus App. No need for Resolve or Adode. They now have Sidus TC SYNC that snycs the audio with 1 click. For mult-cam shoots, just add another box per camera. And you get 32bit float from a recorder that is smaller than your hand. Check it out

    I must be really dense, how do you connect the microphone to the XLR adaptor? It has a 3.5mm socket on the end, you have to use another cable between the mic I would have thought, unless there is an adaptor for the adaptor. Does using a TRS to TRS cause any problems for the balanced signal. Is it just the length of TRS cable that matters for interference? In which case using and XLR cable with adapter and linking TRS cable could start looking a bit ugly on the business end of a camera rig. Essentially it is unnecessary would you say?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl Před 17 dny

      Yes, you still use a TRS to TRS cable between the mic and the VXLR adapter. And yes, the idea is that you reduce the length of these TRS cables to the bare minimum (10-20 cm) so that you get less interference.

They will come in useful for other things I am sure, they were cheap so I'll keep them. I have already ordered the VXLR Pro, not taking any chances, I actually need it for a shoot tomorrow.
