    Waaait a second, if you purchase the update you can record in h265 while using the AtomX Cast? So the final output is not necessarily prores ?? Are you sure?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před 11 měsíci

      From my understanding, that is correct. The H265 can be recorded when using the AtomX Cast. However, I have not tested this since I have not yet seen a good enough reason to upgrade the firmware for 99$ to be able to do h265.

    Good video, Chris, but any idea now on Atomos? They recently have a screaming deal on their "Megabundle" that is the Xcast plus the wireless Connect for $399 US, however there have been no major updates to the Cast for a while and one has to really wonder where they're going with all this. (And recent claims of "channel stuffing" and other misdeeds don't help). Also, have you considered reviewing the Zato Connect? Cheers, mate, keep up the good work!

      One thing I recently saw was that they now have an AtomX Cast App for the Mac (and I think Windows as well) which allows you to do much more with the Cast. Sadly still no ISO recordings for the individual HDMI inputs, but at least some development and new added features.

      The updates are actually on the AtomOS for the Ninja V itself. AtomOS11 base is now available as a free upgrade. There's also an "OS11 Feature Pack", but that is an extra cost, however it includes the H.265 codec.

    Great review. Have you tried extended H265 recording on the Ninja V? I find it ridiculous that both my Ninja V and Ninja V+ freeze consistently (~50%) on extended recording sessions longer than 30mins. And it's only 1080p 60fps, not even 4k. The whole point of H265 is to create smaller file sizes and one big use case is longer recordings. I don't see how they can even market the Ninja V to gamers to record streams, are they expecting them to record in pro res or something? I've tried the 1TB Wester Digital Blue ssd, Samsung 860, and SK Hynix S31, makes no difference (no kangaroo warning, just freezes randomly). Totally unacceptable and unreliable.
    Would appreciate if you would look into this issue as you're great at in depth reviews!

      I have not tested the h265 as I have not needed it enough to spend the 99$ on the software upgrade. All freezing I have seen with the Atomos has been with drive issues. And sometimes even though I was using a drive which was mentioned on their supported drives section.

    I am looking for a device that can record the isolated hdmi tracks to SSD, but I don’t need any livestream switching capability. From what I understand the ATEM mini pro iso would do it, but I would like something smaller more portable with fewer buttons. Really what I want is a video equivalent to a Zoom H4N, but for video instead of audio. Does anyone know if something like this exists?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I don't think that exists. You probably just want to get cameras which record internally and then sync in post (or use Timecode via Tentacle Sync E devices).

      Any Atem with ISO records ISO. I need the livestream and ISO feed is less important.

  • @DroseMr

    I think if having all your feeds w ATOMOS recorders in either Sync Atom or Connect w Airglu you can record each isolated recorder and switched on the fly or playback all 4 /5 feeds and customize a switch edit w more depth on location semi live. Havent used this set but ive invested in the Atomos system. Cool show ! THANK YOU

      @ChrisSpiegl  Před 11 měsíci

      I mean, sure ,with the AtomX Sync and all the cameras supporting the Sync Blue system, you could just record everything in the cameras and have ISO recordings. However, that's not what I was talking about. The ATEM Mini Pro ISO / Extreme ISO can record all HDMI inputs onto the SSD which is incredibly. helpful since it makes everything so much easier to edit off without having to run to all the cameras.
      However, the ATEM Mini line also only records a max of 1080p and not 4k and also a much lower bitrate than the Atomos Ninja V.

    Hi, did you test if the ninja átomos and the átomos cast, together, can they record up to 4k or just 1080? Hopefully your answers may question

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Před 3 měsíci

      Only 1080p because the whole cast system is limited to that.
