I'll mention it in my preview but most of the designs are actually throwback riffs on late 1990s and 2003-04 NBA and even NFL. Also note the 22/23 and 21/22 updates include Slaf, Wright, and even Caufield RCs. It's a very rich set for those steeped SPx history. They even include a Maurice Richard FX Radiance. Re. sticker autos, SPx has always been SPA's more daring and blinged out holofoil little bro. The stickers and cut autos are usually integrated seamlessly, and explain why SPx (in non-Bedard years) has always dipped to the $75 range. I got all my 2000-2015 boxes for $75. I'm in the minority, but I always preferred the SPx RCs to SPA, given the geometrics and 3D vibe. True too even of McD's Auto-Jersey RC, an affordable $2,000 card instead of a $7,000 FWA. My opinion is we have to stop sticking our heals in the mud over sticker autos. Do we complain about a Tier 1 RC vs a Tier 2 RC? Stickers are just a baked in lower price tier. We should all know by now based on simple economics (supply/demand quantity vs price point) the alternative is less autos in the product, not more hard-signed autos. Alternatively 2023-24 SPx is $500/box out of the gate like SPA and BD.

If the guy with the 1/1 would have listened to us older guys that work off multipliers and not the over hyped that breakers spew, he would of made better money.

Are box bottoms listed in Beckett monthly? I'd check myself, but I don't have one. Also, as of late, I've been buying wax wrappers from the 70s and 80s and filling them up with perfect non valuable cards and re-sealing them. I then put them on display beside the ( for eg) Yzerman rookie card.

I dont remember that triple auto ever being a chase back in the day..I always remember trying to "Find the Hull" which was a drawing type card i think /2500

In the last episode there was a mailbag question asking if anyone has competed a set of Monumental Patches. I have 4 of the 6 Igor Shesterkin Rookie Monumental Patches, my number one PC quest is to get the other 2 if at all possible. I have never seen the other 2 for sale and unfortunately it might not be possible since all Shesterkin cards are redemptions in The Cup. To me The Monumental Rookie Patches are grail cards since the card is hard signed with the best patches possible in the hobby.

There is also the Lombardi trohy holo in Pro Set football too

I have had arguments with people about what series the Cup holo is in. I bought a ton of series 1 but some are saying its in series 2 as well I need to know lool

I recently tried to PSA my triple auto 50/50 hull lemieux gretzky card. I was only trying to get the autos authenticated (even though I know these are legit), however PSA would not authenticate the card as Upper Deck never released the 50/50 card with all 3 autos as the sigs were coordinated by a reseller afterwards. This gets into the other conversation where I was supposed to submit as a generic "trading card" for auto authentication and not a dual authentication. So even though that is a legit upper deck released 50/50 card, because Upper Deck never released as a triple auto, they wouldnt process the order. In PSA's view, this would create confusion if they authenticated it, suggesting that other hobbyists would somehow interpret PSA's authentication as validating UD actually released these triple autos themselves. I ended up just selling the card raw.

I remember ripping off my buddy for that Brett Hull rookie when we were like 12. He didn't know it was his rookie. I then proceeded to trade it for a copy of Techmo Bowl for the NES a couple years later.

I bought a 42" C2 a couple years ago. Best decision I've made in my tech journey is owning an OLED

I think the concept of looking for purely hockey cards at the National is overstated. I saw almost no tables that had only baseball. Or only football. I think the majority of dealers have boxes of Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Racing, Soccer, Pokemon, Star Wars .... and they are constantly selling out of some things as the days go by.

Question for Josh Troy and Phil: Now that CT scanning of Packs and Boxes where you can see what is inside a sealed box or pack with out opening it is available are you going to stop buying them?

Whatnot is where I get 90% of my hockey cards. And I never do breaks. There’s a ton of great sellers just doing great deals on singles. I was surprised that more people don’t use it.

re: ePack hits. To me it is no different than cases/boxes/cards being sent to the various distributors. I see ePack as a form of a "distributor". In Canada it would be like complaining that specific shields were available from Grosnor stores -- but my LCS uses Universal so I have no shot at that shield. Should I be upset that shield card is not available in product at my LCS? And then add in the USA vs Canada aspect. Should Americans be upset specific hits are not available in the states? This all assumes the x% of random cases being sent/distributed to ePack -- similar to a% and b% being distributed between Canada and USA.

So I was at the National Wednesday and Thursday and I'm glad I was there Wednesday because Thursday was a zoo. I can't imagine the rest of the week but it's a strong positive indicator for the hobby that it was packed early in the week. I saw plenty of cash being thrown around too. There was some hockey there however not enough for how big the show is. A lot of dealers listed their high end cards 3 to 4 times higher than recent comps which makes it difficult to even get a conversation going. My personal best pick up was a Jason Robertson SPA Black Future Watch Auto. My one gripe is the amount of people strolling a case in behind them, this shouldn't be allowed. It takes up too much space and now everyone has the enjoyment of walking around your case. It's just plain selfish when space is limited with soooo many people jammed in there. What was even worse, some people had the nerve to travel around with a large stroller for all their stuff. There was so much stuff in the stroller you would think they were dealers looking to set up but they were just regular customers.
