Why Travel Will Not Solve Your Problems

We've been marketed the idea that traveling will make us into happier versions of ourselves. In this video I wanted to challenge that idea using my own experiences of solo traveling around the world.

I have gotten a lot of questions about the bike trip across Japan so I decided to make this video going over some of the most common ones. Feel free to ask any other questions and I will answer them here. I made it about half way across the country with our city bike before I had to leave. I will hopefully finish the bike ride in the upcoming spring. Thank you guys for all of the support!

Really sorry that happened man, glad you're alive
9:10 aged well
Hope you make a fast recovery! Take care
Wow this is really inspiring.
This is so horrible, I am so sorry for you. Hope you can recover from your injuries soon. Please take it really easy.
I'm really sorry this happened to you. I went through something similar getting hit by a car while on my motorcycle. I'm not sure how it works in Japan, but if this happened in the US, you'd be entitled to a HUGE legal settlement for the injury and suffering caused by this. Just mentioning it because it might apply to Japan too. Finding a personal injury lawyer there that can speak English would be able to tell you instantly if they could help. Hope the recovery goes well man. It's gonna be a two steps forward, one step back recovery with some really rough days, but things will get better. I promise.
Your gratitude and positivity are really admirable. It's ok to feel bad for yourself too because this is just bad luck. The resolve you had to take this ride will need to be channeled through this unexpected journey but you trained and prepared mentally for a challenge and you've got this!
we love you bro
Ah man nooooooo. :(. Was totally looking forward to you and your adventures man. Hope you can find the peace of mind and still enjoy being in Japan. One day at the time, and try to enjoy the little things too.
That's so rough, feel for you. Just know you are showing strength doing this video. It's evident you are a strong, driven, life-loving person. Take care, and I look forward to hearing about your progress!
You are still alive. Being alive opens possibilities to do more. You will recover and do more and best. Also, this story is genuine, real, and now I am heavily invested. Stay strong bro. You can do Handicapped across japan or whatever you set up to do so long you are alive.
We love you!!!!
Of course we'd love to hear from you while you're recovering. As long as you make sure you're recovering well first and foremost. Can't decide if you're lucky or unlucky, though. A bit of both I guess... I hope you're not alone there, far away from home; and if you are, well you still have us if that's any consolation. So far the score is 'Japan 2 - 0 Zerno' but I'm sure you'll get to settle that some day somehow... Hope you get better soon, take care.
Feel what you feel man. Be gentle on yourself. The cardio you did to prepare you doesn’t just evaporate, you get to keep the healthy weight loss and increased heart function. As well, you’re improved video and storytelling skills are something you get to keep. No one has the right to force toxic positivity in this situation, but I do believe if you can show gratitude through this process and be mindful of your emotions, good or bad, I think you gained a different achievement than you originally set out for. I hear japan has a good healthcare system!
Omg speedy recovery bro 😢, Japan is really cursed
It can feel like drowning but keep focusing on the future :)
Ouch
sorry you keep having bad luck bro...dont give up..keep making content too! i will keep watching! never give up!
Thank you guys for the kind words. I will hopefully make a full recovery! Let me know if you guys would want to a “Handicapped across Japan” series until I can heal.
yes plz
It will be nice to follow your videos either way. Hope you get well soon!
First off glad you are alive!!! I would be happy to watch you travel videos, but don't push yourself for likes and views
Wow this is not the update I expected. Glad you're still alive! It's great to see you staying positive, but please don't rush your recovery. Maybe you could find some people in the area to collaborate with on your new idea?
Holy cow, that's awful. What about your damages? The lost trip and everything? Will that be covered by the guy? That said, I think it's a good opportunity to document the experience. I think a lot of people (myself included) are curious how to deal with when a situation like this when we're traveling, especially bike-packers.
It happened very recently so I’m still processing the accident. But so far the guy who hit me accepted responsibility so my medical bills are covered by his insurance. Including transportation. Worse case scenario I have travelers insurance that covers 100k, but I’d rather not use it if I don’t have to since American insurance companies will do anything to get out of a claim A lot of my belongings are damaged so they said I would get reimbursed for everything. Still haven’t looked at everything broken. I’m still going through everything so I’ll make to address this question in the next video :)
Fuck man, I'm so sorry. Only subscribed after your last video cos you seemed so affable and loved your approach to the journey. Well done for dealing with everything, sounds hella stressful. Especially when isolated away from home, makes everything that much more difficult. Wishing you a speedy recovery. One day at a time.
Fuck, dude!! I was excited for your next videos, but surely I was not expecting that. I am so sorry for you! I hope you can find strength to face this recovery period with your head up, and remember that once you are back on your feet, it will be a hell of a story to tell! All the best, take your time to recover and keep the positive thoughts in!
Also a thank you note, after watching your videos I got more and more into cycling and it really pushed me to travel in it! Thanks for the motivation!
@@RockinforRockI’m so glad to hear that! I hope this video doesn’t scare anyone out of travel or biking haha. I will hopefully post more videos soon :)
Which day were you in Kumamoto? I remember being last year around the same time and having rain in Kumamoto. It is so awesome to see someone travel to Japan the same dates as me and have a diferente adventure. It is soo cool
Good to have you back!
Can't wait to follow along! Alex put me on to this video. Also, that bit about transitioning from engineering to being a therapist was super relatable.
