Love your recreated dress! Very cute wrap detail! You’ve reminded me how much I love the davenport.. I need to make another.. and oh that pink and red fabric is divine
Thanks! Yes, I love the Davenport :) I’m thinking hard about what to make with the pink and red viscose..
Hello from Atlanta! I love the navy blue linen with lemons. Can’t wait to see your dress!
The davenport dress is lovely. Perhaps I should give it a go. I made the Esther shorts recently. The fit is good, but I found it a bit too high wasted for my liking. I ended up changing it.
Oh, do tell more, please! What chamges did you make?
Hello Karen Marie. Lovely to see you again. Being able to recreate a much loved garment is an amazing skill to have. Your top looks lovely and like you said, using this one as the basis of the next one is a great idea. I would love to see some footage of how you do this. I had the same idea of a brooch as another option to a button. Your Davenport dress looks beautiful on you! Looking forward to to seeing your makes. The cardigan pattern from muse pattern really y speaks to me...I get a vintage vibe from it which is definitely my thing. I think I'll be paying muse patterns a little visit ! Stitches out and starting to use my hand more. it does become tired and achy but slowly but surely I'll get there. Have a wonderful warm week and see you next vlog
Thanks, Julie! <3 I'll make a note about filming my next version. I can't wait to get the Jenna cardigan sewn up. I hope it will be a good one :)
Love all of the fabrics! I think the lilac will look sensational on you. I think the frida and shorts sounds like a good idea, then you can mix and match them across your wardrobe. I also think the lemons would make a fabulous dress: fringe? Myosotis? Thanks for the video 😊
Ooh. Yes, I have the Fringe pattern, but haven’t made it up yet. That might work well.. I’ll have a good think about it :)
Originally commented before I saw your material. I like them all. I think the pink /red print will look nice on you. I think the navy with lemons would look nice in a short sleeve shirt dress. Can't wait to see everything
Ooh. Yes, that is a good idea!
Aaahh thank you so much for the mention - that is so kind of you 🥰 Your me mades are fabulous - I really liked your Megan Neilson Jean Shorts - they looked great. Hope you enjoyed taking part in your own way for Me Made May - It's so great isn't it that it can be interpreted in so many individual ways! Thank you again ❤
I think that was a great idea! And, yes, please film the next one. I do like the top.
Thanks! Then I’ll make a note of that :)
Hi Karen Marie! Yes! I believe you will accomplish your goals. ❤. Re: the top: I think Love Notions has a top similar to that. ? Maybe it’s called Pembrook? I hope you find the pattern you are looking for. Have a great day.
Ooh. Thanks! I’ll look into that straight away :)
Happy birthday!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Love these chatty catch ups… and love seeing the scenery in the background ! The blue fabric you bought is absolutely stunning!!
Thank you!! ❤️
Happy belated birthday, Karen Marie!!!! ❤ I love when you pop up on my screen! Loved the catch-up!
Thank you so much! <3
You've had 3 weeks of glorious weather in May? Wow! I think we've had 3 days in the Netherlands. All the other days since November last year are grey and wet 😭
I know! It is very unusual. Last year it was snowing in the middle of May. This year, I actually managed to get a little tan on my legs -- in May! Weird. Fingers crossed that we get a little more sun in the Netherlands as well as in Norway soon! :)
Hi Karen Marie. I too was influenced by Adele and have purchased the Esther shorts. I’ll be interested to see how you get on them. My plan is to also trial the Gilbert shirt in the same fabric to make a co-ord set. Both new patterns for me 😊 I have a few projects to complete first but I’m looking forward to trying these - I have made a Helen’s Closet pattern before and I really like her instructions. Although I probably can no longer call myself a beginner I do prefer comprehensive instructions 😊 Thanks for sharing your walk - it doesn’t seem so long ago since you were surrounded by snow 😊
Ooh. How exciting, Alison. I really like Helen's closet, too. I'm sure the co-ord set will look great, and I agree that these patterns should work well together. Please share how you get on with them when you get started. Haha.. I know! Seasons change quickly here. One day winter coat.. a couple of weeks later it is tshirt and shorts :)
Happy belated birthday 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! <3
Gorgeous souvenir fabric from Latvia!
Thanks! Can't wait to sew it up :)
Happy belated birthday, Karen! Sounds like you and your daughter had fun.
Thank you! Yes, we had a really fun day. I love these festivals, and I try to go every year.
I visited Norway a few weeks ago and the weather was glorious sunshine! I think we were very lucky. Looking forward to seeing your fruity make(s) 😍
Oh cool, Yvette! Yes, we had such a lovely weather spell in May this year. The weather here is changable, so I’m glad you got go see it at its best :)
Sorry you got caught out there in the rain. Thanks for sharing
Oh, it was fine, Zelda. I had plenty of dry clothes at home :) But I really do hope we get some more sunshine soon!
What a shame about your ringer dress! Such a bummer when things like that happen! We’ve all been there!!
Hi Karen Marie, for your uniform shirt maybe make a buttonhole on the button side of the placket and sew the button on the underside of the buttonhole placket, the extra button will not be visible but stop the gaping. Best wishes from Australia.
Thanks, Susan! That is a very nice option! I wasn’t really prepared for this as I am not very large chested. I have never made anything that gaped before 😂😅
How disappointing that the band shirt didn't work out quite right. I saw on Instagram an interesting solution to a gaping shirt. Sew a button on the wrong side of the placket between the buttonholes where it gapes then make a corresponding buttonhole in the gaping section between the buttons. This new button goes to the inside when buttoned and the rest of the buttons button as usual. It looked like a perfect solution. I've never liked the look of snaps in the gaps. You just can't hide them. I followed Theresa's (Lost My Thread) videos this year. She took a deep dive into determining her style then deciding what to sew to fill her wardrobe gaps. She made very thorough videos about her process. She's inspired me to do that also but later in the summer or early autumn. Too much going on for me between now and August!
Ooh! That is such a clever idea! Thanks :)
Congratulations on your prize! I haven't won things too often, but, when I did, it made my day. Your new band shirt looks just great and I'm sure it will be much more comfortable than the old one. Enjoy the sun! X
Lovely round up!! And so nice to be able to sit outside!!! Ash jeans shorts… interesting 😉
Thanks Rachael! I love my jeans and jeans shorts, so I have a couple of plans.. :) Feel free to join in the jeans shorts fanclub 😉
I find the concept of #memademay really intriguing as because it enables people to interpret it in many different ways. I didn’t undertake the challenge as 1) I really don’t have a significant me made wardrobe (yet) and 2) have been severely hampered by significant carpal tunnel in both hands. Actually sitting with right arm elevated ATM following surgery yesterday sew…. NO sewing for at least the next two weeks, YIKES 😱! Will have to make do with you tube, internet and reading. See you next vlog 😊
Oh no! That sounds very painful, Julie. I hope the surgery was successful, and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Ruan sent me over x
Thank you so much for coming over! ❤️ Ruan is my favourite youtuber. Felt a bit star struck to be mentioned there 😂😍
So glad you loved your prize ❤
Such lovely fabric!!! And binding 😍😍😍 And your pressie via Ruan is just amazing!!! Talk about happy post!!!!
I never thought about the tie in the back of a dress nagging at your back. I have not made any dresses with ties in the back, but I do want to and now I will consider it more with lighter weight fabrics for the dress so that the knot is not so irritating because I suffer with chronic back pain. Thank you for breaking out that point.
Yes, I don’t usually have an issue with that, but these ties are quite chunky, and when I tie them, it really forms a big knot in my back. I think I will make another one of these, but in a viscose, and I might just lengthen the ties so much that I can get them around my back and tie them in front again.
Hello Hello! Your top is beautiful. It is always great to get happy mail!😅
Thank you! ❤️ Yes. I love unpacking new fabrics. It always gives me inspiration to sew.
Love ❤ that Ruann sent you the package from sew frugal. So sweet of her to add to it! 🎉🎉 Your bubbly excitement made my day! Hope you enjoyed the outdoors 🌞 Cheryl 🇨🇦
Thanks, Cheryl! ❤️❤️
How lovely of Ruan to add to your sew frugal prize 😊 Love your fabric and haberdashery haul and looking forward to seeing what you make 😊
I know! It was so lovely of her. ❤️
Lovely plans. Really like the naya tee but it needs a drapey viscose. Linen trousers will be so nice to wear. If you like the fit of the top of the opal you can use that and alter the legs to match the protea, looking forward to seeing you finished garment
Hi Karen Marie! Firstly, where I live in Brooklyn, New York used to have a very high number of Norwegians, though not so many these days. But every year they have the Norwegian Parade down the Main Street of my neighbourhood, including this year, on Sunday. My husband (who is Norwegian, I think I mentioned previously) plans to attend assuming it isn't raining. I normally go too, but can't this time. Anyway, it's always a fun day but on a much smaller scale here than where you are, of course! I hope you all have a wonderful day!! Re the Jessi Tee. I've made it and I found that it came up very cropped and the neckline was a bit too high for my taste. Something to check, though we have very different body-types so maybe it's just perfect for you. Deer and Doe patterns I believe a drafted for pear shaped figures, and if so I imagine you'd get a good fit without too much drama. I wonder if the Style Arc Hope dress could be adapted to recreate your top? or that mccalls 7969 dress. Keen to see your next instalment!
Yes, I remember that you told me that your husband is Norwegian. I don’t know why, but it always surprises me when I hear that people from outside of northern Europe has met a Norwegian or even heard of us 😂. I’m so glad you have a parade! We had a wonderful day yesterday, with blue skies and lots of sun. Totally exhaused, but so much fun! Thank you for the tip on the Jesse. That is very helpful. I’ll lay out the pattern pieces and measure against a top I have to see what I have to change. Didn’t know that about the D&D patterns either.
And oooh. That Mccalls deess is a good idea. I actually have that pattern. Ghat could maybe work. Thanks!
Hello Karen Marie, nice to meet you and greeting from Melbourne Australia. Recent subscriber to your channel and enjoying your content as well as the glorious view through your window. A couple of ideas for a faux wrap top/dress that might get your thinking going. I didn’t enter empire waist a a search term but these dresses appear to have a slightly raised waist. As a fellow pear shaped person, I simply adore the empire line which can be very hard to find. Enjoy constitution day and I look forward to hearing about next vlog.
Hi Julie, and welcome to my channel! So nice to hear from you. Did you send me a pattern suggestion..? I couldn’t see it from your comment here. Yes, the empire waist is a good one for us pears, isn’t it? 😉 We had a lovely Constitution Day, and I’m sure I’ll be chatting about it in my next video as I’ll be making a new shirt for my national costume soon. Thanks again for joining me here!
@madebykarenmarie yes I found a couple of possibilities. I will through my history and try sending them successfully! Have a great day.
Merging the two pants patterns should be easy to do. I have taken parts of patterns and created new things…allowed me to reduce the number of patterns I buy… that means I have started tracing patterns to grade up a little where I need it, or reduce somewhere it else. I don’t have a suggestion for the replacement for your fav older top.. I have used an old piece of styrofoam (might have been something from the hardware store, like insulation) and pinned a garment out flat on top of paper and traced piece by piece ( got that idea from Kenneth King video). Your selection of tops feels doable and will make you so happy. I intend to add some sleeveless tops to my closet over the next two weeks…next weekend is a long holiday in the USA so I expect to spend some time on y things, not just housework. Best wishes on your holiday plans and sewing inspirations. Chris in Florida
Thanks, Chris! I’m excited to get started. Have a lovely holiday weekend next week!
I’ve totally found that fibre mood LOVE interfacing!! I usually do half of what they say 😂😂 Lovely video as always and lovely catch up!
Haha. Ok. I have made several Fibre Mood patterns, and I think you are right about that. I haven’t really thought about it, but now that you mention it.. ;) Will absolutely half this later, too!
Oh my gosh, Karen Marie!!! I love the linen top AND your giggle when you spoke about it!!❤
I know! I had to film that bit twice due to the mad grinning. 😂
Hello Karen Marie! Just so you know...I haven't made the Hinterland Dress either. I expect I will some day, but for some reason I just never go through with it! What a bummer about the Rio Dress! Either fix (tee or triangles) would work great. But you HAVE to salvage it somehow! It's such cute fabric. Your husband's vest looks fab! Nice save using the label. The Darla looks like such a sweet dress and jumpsuit. Can't wait to see yours!! Thanks for sharing!
Go for the added triangles! Great save with the label in the vest/ waistcoat ..and lovely red top- just smashing. Great week…Chris in Florida
love your shirt, so good. Really enjoy wearing shirts too, so versatile
Hi Karen Marie! I get excited when I see comments on my videos. Also! It takes a little to please me!😅😅😅 Great label, save.😅
Loving the green fabric!! And your sisters top is perfect!!!
That precious fabric is so pretty!
I know, right? It makes me happy every time I look at it :)
Such lovely makes!! I’m sure you don’t look like curtains 😂😂 that gingham top 😍 just gorgeous!
I love the top your wearing & hadn’t heard of this pattern before so thank you for sharing. The top you made for your sister looks lovely 🥰
Thank you so much! ❤️
🥰
All of those fabrics really shout SUMMER HAPPY… such vibrant colors…best wishes on getting through your top picks…Chris in Florida
Thanks, Chris! I can’t wait to get started! :)
I'm so excited to see all your plans come to life!! I love so many of the patterns you've shared. The Stella dress in yellow looks soooo happy and cheery! I love it. A green version will be just as fab, methinks! I keep looking at the Saturday Skirt and Top pattern but am yet to buy it. So, I'll be extra interested to see how your version turns out and what fabric you settle on. The rainbow fabric would be perfect!! Enjoy!
You know.. I think FPC has a little sale now if you subscribe to the newsletter, so it might be a good time to get the Saturday skirt set .. ;)
Wow! You have a lot on your plate. You love what you do, so you should have a lovely summer. Good luck with all of it. Glad your sister liked her top.
Thanks! I can’t wait to get started ;)
I haven’t really decided what I’m going to make for spring and summer - I feel I should give it some thought but I’m constrained by my plan to sew my stash this year (she says after having purchased fabric from Andrea during the ‘Live’ earlier this evening! 😂) I do have some nice viscoses in my stash though so I will definitely be making some seasonally appropriate dresses in the next few weeks 😊 Happy sewing 😊
Haha. My hand was also hovering on the «buy» button during Andrea’s live yesterday ;) would love to know ehat you’ll settle on making. Keep me posted.
