I first heard it in Louisville Kentucky at the Roots 101 African American museum. They had this song playing and the walls in the area were painted with tress but had body hanging from them. Bloody ones. They also had a life sized sculpture of a KKK member on a horse. Scared me so bad.. which is honestly pretty sad. But when you walk in and pay, they greet you and a woman walked up to me holding chains began to explain to us what stuff they had there and where things were. She then asked if she could see my hands to try them on. I said yes, and she said “welcome to America.” And slid them onto my wrist and dropped them. They were so heavy. We also saw authentic sculptures, masks, THRONES, and real chains.. It was heartbreaking to see and feel the chains that they would put on newborn African children.. they felt so heavy in my own hands. But anyway, we saw great things there. Worth my pay.
