I'm fat and over fifty. I rarely wear makeup, and am often very grumpy about things. I have opinions. So many opinions. So I'm here to share all these highly offensive opinions about witchcraft with you, you lucky people!
Don't Waste Your Pagan Pounds on This Rubbish!
I'm back after a whole lot of being ill and going on holiday and being ill again, and then going to a festival and finally getting bloody Covid for the umpteenth time.
And this time I am looking at another one of the ways in which arseholes with no actual knowledge or qualifications in witchcraft are trying to make money off the back of people just trying to start their witchcraft journey.
Great CZcamsrs who offer excellent learning resources:
@HearthWitch
@TheOakWitch
Authors to look out for:
Rae Beth
Starhawk
Doreen Valiente
Glennie Kindred
Try and find these authors at independent bookstores - I recommend courtyardbooksglastonbury.co.uk/ who will also offer recommendations on good books to start or continue researching your path.

Magical Colouring In Books: the Ultimate Insult to Witchcraft.... (Also: I am having a very bad day)
zhlédnutí 574Před měsícem
I kind of lose it today. And why? Magical Colouring In Books. And I don't mean those pretty books with complicated pictures of fish and mermaids. I mean books marketed as being educational to adults, that you have to colour in. Yes, they exist. And yes, I looked at them. And yes, I got ridiculously angry. #witchcraft #witchy #rant #crone Also: my very bad day. And why people who identify as men...
Return the Stone Reaction Video! Entitled American Witch vs. Heritage Scotland

I'm a tattooed person. I love tattoos, and they've formed a big part of my spiritual journey. But how to make the experience spiritual for you if you're in a nice, clean modern studio? Here's my journey, my tattoos, and how I craft my own tattoo ritual. "What Kind of Witch Am I?" Why You Don't Need Labels for Successful Witchcraft.

Everyone is so eager to sell you books, and show you articles about how to choose what sort of witch you are - but the truth is, you don't need labels to be a witch. This is my take on why you don't need to read those stupid articles, and you are perfect as you are, right now. #witchy #witch
No More Temu Tarot! (Also, why I now want to cosplay Miriam Margolyes...)

I'm having a proper rant today - first of all why Too Many Pentacles is not a good home decor trend, and then why I now want to cosplay Miriam Margolyes. And a really vituperative rant (and a lot of swearing, sorry!) about the revolting trend of Temu Tarot Cards and why it is disrupting the Tarot Industry. The Worst Northern Lights Claim I've Ever Heard, and Why a "Book of Shadows" Makes My Teeth Itch.
zhlédnutí 795Před 2 měsíci
We had a huge display of the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis across the UK last week, and lots of people got out to witness their majestic splendour. Obviously this meant some people got very odd ideas indeed. Also, in a move that is likely to REALLY UPSET some people, I have a bit of a rant about why I think the term, "Book Shadows" is pretentious tripe.

I Hate "Little Books of Spells" so much...
Absolutely here for witchy karen lol. I am also traditional, but was raised with folk practices from the ozarks and appalachia. I'm working on getting back to my family's roots, which can be tedious. I'm just happy to see someone keeping the gate for those who don't pay attention to what technology is doing to us. Like, I hate that people take advantage of the newbies. They didn't do that as much back in our day because everyone was too afraid to do so. At least that was the case in my community. People would hesitate to teach, now people are too excited to hop on being an ""expert"" and just throwing this shit out. Rubbish indeed. --Vyvyan
Oh, and I know about the ER... I spent the entire night in drag after a performance and didn't get home until like 8am (rather then 1am like normal). --Vyvyan
Oh my gosh! I love this video!
Thankyou so much!
So pleased you are better after all the illness and glad your Husband is on the mend. My parents went to Boscastle years ago and brought me back a flying witch doll. They loved it. It’s definitely on my ‘to visit’ list. Anyway keep being a Karen and gatekeeping! I got told I was gatekeeping horror because I said Shirley Jackson’s ‘The haunting of hill house’ was more of a ghost story 🤔 in a horror book group. Seems gatekeeping is the in word at the moment 😂 however I quite like the idea of being a gatekeeper (not gamekeeper though) 😊
It's another of those phrases like "narcissist" that get thrown around willy nilly, isn't it? As I've said elsewhere, the old definition of a gatekeeper was not only someone who kept people out, but also someone who welcomed visitors in, and directed them on their way. That's the kind of gatekeeper I think I'd like to be...
My husband and I used to do historical reenactments of the fur trade era and was on our way to a festival. He was dressed up in beaded buckskins, moccasins, I even think he had a knife on his belt, and went into a local store on the way. I followed at a discrete distance to watch people's reactions to him and was very disappointed no one seemed to notice anything peculiar.
I'd definitely has sneaked a peek - sounds like an amazing look!
Lol at people caling you Karen 😂 I disagree with this. I deal with Karens daily in my job... i can't escape them because the customer is always right, right? Or they think they are anyway 😂 having a rant on YTube does not make you a karen and lets face it, people can always scroll if they don't like you! Sorry to hear you had your fun cut short with the A and E visit 😢😢 but lolll at the makeup, love it 😂😂 and oooohhh I won't be spending my very limited and precious lucre on this book but I would bloody love to read it one day when I need a chuckle 😂😂😂 and no, you aren't gatekeeping by protecting newbie witches from wasting their money on poor quality books thatarentevenabook lol. I wish there was one book that did it all but nope. If you want to practice then not even 100 books will tell you it all. Not even 1000. You could read allllll the books and you still wouldn't know it all!! This all smacks of AI written books to me!
So true! I kind of think there's a bit of a clue to my attitude to stuff in the title of the channel.... But still, I embrace it! I think you are absolutely right about the AI thing....
Missed you. Glad to have you back
Thankyou! It's been a whole lot of feeling quite grotty, and not having time to recuperate, but I'm feeling much better now!
The gods and deities is the one that gets me... No one can agree on the number of Gods and Goddesses in Norse and Anglo-Saxon culture, how many of them are separate entities, or how many are the same deity under a different name, the deities of Ancient Egypt that are referred to often by pagans and scholars only scratch the surface, so 14 pages won't cover that. These printables seem to be a quick money making exercise for digital sellers.
A friend contacted me off-CZcams and said that she'd had an advert for how to AI-generate these. So it would appear that they aren't even written by a bad person. No person at all! I'm even angrier now!
I love your content! I also missed it but I was also sick with Covid so I completely understand why there were no videos. It kicked my behind! I’m not a huge fan of gate keeping but I have respect for someone who presents a damn good argument as to why they feel that way and you’re spot on. Looking forward to hearing more from you!
I think there are some different ways and levels of what we term "gatekeeping". I'm totally against people who stop others from joining in a hobby because they don't fit the gatekeeper's sense of ... something. As a long-time female roleplayer, I have seen this a LOT. There's a certain kind of person who doesn't want women playing *their* game. I usually delight in taking these knobends down a peg or two. I've been playing since I was 16, and met every single partner I've ever had through roleplaying, usually whilst running the game myself. But the medieval role of a gatekeeper was not just to keep people out, but to welcome them in, and direct them on their onward journey. And *that's* the kind of gatekeeper I want to be.
Missed your videos too! Kept checking…👀 enjoyed and agreed …keep embracing Kar…Annie!!! 😉 Sorry you’ve been ill, but sounded like you managed to have a great time. Boscastle is on my list of places to visit!
BOSCASTLE IS THE BEST! Capital letters entirely intentional! We're definitely going back. Maybe when we're off this diet though....
Agree with everything especially Hearth Witch. She’s so knowledgeable ❤
I love her way of imparting information. She comes across as a helpful, open person who has her own path but is very willing to discuss other paths and help those who need it. A new Hearth Witch video makes me happy - as a keen gardener, I'm loving her garden videos at the moment!
Cringes in *has a grimoire in a binder with naff stickers on*, hahaha. Very on point though. These videos are the highlight of whatever week you post them.
Thankyou!!!!!
You're absolutely brilliant 😂😂😂👍👌👏
I try!
On the subject of Ron Hutton's ubiquity, I think that guy must have mastered the occult art of bilocation or something. He lives near me in Bristol and I am constantly seeing him all over the place. In fact it seems to freak him out a bit. About a year ago, I went to Chorleywood in Hertfordshire to visit my parents. It turned out that he was actually giving a talk at the local memorial hall in the village at the same time!
I mean... it wouldn't surprise me....
Hi Annie, I am with you here. These so-called grimouires are such a load of rubbish and only have one use that they are useful for, and that's the shit house. I hope you enjoyed the little witch museum as much as I did when I went several years ago. We are planning on returning again soon.
Absolutely correct on the only possible use for a "grimoire" like this :-D. Boscastle is sooooo cool!
Wearing that scary make up probably explains why you were seen so promptly in A&E. They prioritise cases in accordance with perceived urgency via the triage system. They probably saw your face and thought you must be dying or something. I once had to wait all night to be seen for a broken arm. So, maybe the best thing is to actually take the make up with you rather than take it off beforehand.
To be fair, it was pretty quiet, and I wasn't the patient.... But you raise a valid point!
Welcome to the Matrix! A lot content is AI generated its all cr@p
So true. I'd just never really been aware of it before. It's so baaaaad :-(
Yep. I have a kindle and I've signed up for a couple of sites that let you know about free and low cost books. It's been useful, but I tend to only look for authors I know because I came across a bloke who had written 10+ books over the last couple of years and I suspect he uses AI to write them. On Instagram I had an ad recommended to me a set of witchcraft books (something like 8 or 10 in all), for a cheap price - I tried looking for the books on amazon to see if the books were legit, couldn't find them, so either the books don't exist, the books are AI generated or it's plagiarized content if it is. Plagiarism is something you have to be on the look out for, especially with self-publishing. I don't have anything against Lulu, though because the Troth uses it to publish their books and newsletters so it's a useful company if it's used properly. I couldn't find anything on the witchcraft book author and the kindle guy doesn't even have a page on Fantastic Fiction. AI generated content is the worst not just because it steals stuff, but it also takes away people's critical thinking and research skills.
Links to recommended sources in the description would be awesome.
Done!
Who can be bothered to read something that someone couldn't be bothered to write?
EXACTLY!!!!
"Hours?" I mean… we both know authors. Anything less than "months" sound, at best, slapdash
SPOILER ALERT: it was, in fact, minutes. in Canva. AAARGH!
This story is fabulous, I've once did the same ut my face was Marilyn Monroe. I'm a guy
I am sure you were an AMAZING Marilyn :-)
Were have you been ive missing you
I got a cold. Then I went on holiday. Then I got a crippling ear infection. Then I went to a festival. Then my whole family got Covid. I'm finally back and feeling well!
Ya know I’m only 3 minutes in and I realize I am meant to be here 🤣👌🏻
Welcome! I do love a good rant.....
Im from East Anglia, and still live here! Such a beautiful place! Can you recommend any reading on the Fae? I do love Brian Fraud and have a couple of his books!
I love Lincolnshire, but I miss the mud flats and sea salt of the Essex coast so much, sometimes :-(. Brian's work is just about the best out there at the moment, but anything by Emily Carding or Iris Compiet is also excellent....
The fist time I came across the term 'witchy' was by Charles Manson, which was taken from a courtroom statement from 1969. He said he told his followers to leave behind them some sort of 'witchy' mark after a crime. Hence the whole Beatles quotes left on the walls and stuff.
That's reason enough to leave it be, I think, just there! (This is new info for me, interesting!)
I've just found you, I'm 5 minutes into the video and I already love you!!! 💜
Thankyou so much!!!!
This fluffy bunny New Age crap sets my teeth on edge.
I always say it makes my teeth itch. I hate the reductiveness of it so much.
Have you ever used Oracle cards? If I may, I would like to recommend The Talisman Oracle. I use it for my one question readings or whenever I need advice. By the way, I have many decks but the one I have used for 30 years is the Robin Wood deck.
i didn't used to, but one of my favourite authors - Sharon Blackie - released a set she'd co-authored, so I bought them. It's a very different way of approaching things, but I kind of love them. I also just bought "The Sherwood Oracle" by Mark Ryan/John Matthews/Anne Yvonne Gilbert because I'm a huge fan of the Kip Carpenter's "Robin of Sherwood" tv series that Mark Ryan acted in. I'm still reading the LWB, but it's amazing so far! I've heard really good things about the Robin Wood deck. The readers I know who are lucky enough to own it, don't seem to want to use anything else. it's a really amazing deck by all accounts....
I always said Terry knew more about real witches than many who have written books on the Craft. I give off more Granny Ogg vibes, sans the drinking, but I am Granny Weatherwax at heart.
I've always said the same. I was lucky enough to have met him a few times, and we shared some mutual friends who characters were based on. I knew one of the original sources for Granny, and she was a very impressive person!
I recently found your videos and I love them! I'm a 71 year old crone. I live in New Orleans and read Tarot in the French Quarter.
Crones unite!!!! As cool descriptions go, "I read Tarot in the French Quarter", you definitely just won the internet.
Loved this video. Thank you.
Thankyou so much!
LOL I have become much calmer just because I just no longer give a care. I do what I do and the rest of the world can just leave me alone.
I am, as you can probably tell, still working on the calmer thing...
I have always loved a man in a kilt
Phwoar!
I don't really have a problem with these colouring books. They are fun... Will you learn anything from them? Probably not, but there is magic in colour - you have the charkas and they have their own colours. Crystal magic is heavily colour based. Candle magic is based on colour. There are witches who practice art magic and colour is important to that. The elements each have their own colour that is associated with them. All of the runes have colours associated with them. Creating art and doing craft projects means that you can make things for your altar without having to buy expensive statues. What's created might not be considered fine art, but it's a start. People can bind their own books for their BOS/Grimoires and these have more meaning to them than a store bought notebook. Without 'art' the achievements of the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians would have been lost to time. It's just another way of practicing.
Thanks for your input.
I am from America and have just found your channel. I am also a Crone of 60 years old. I just wanted to say thank like you very much and your video was delightful. I want to see more. Have a great day.
Welcome aboard!
Reminds me of that book out of the Evil Dead
"There's somebody in my fruit cellar!"
I really hate the word 'spiritual'. I mean, wth does it represent?😂 Tina.
Exactly. It's wanting to hedge your bets, I think. I'm personally all for nailing my colours to the tree. Only not with a nail, because I'm a Gaian.
Who is the artist mentioned at 12:36? All I'm hearing is Sarah Marsetti, but this must be wrong, because I can't find anything about them online. I would like to check out their work and support them.
Ciro Marchetti. Sorry I wasn't clear!
i will NEVER EVER shop from that awful orange website and others like them. They not only steal art and images from small creative businesses (myself included), they are down right dangerous. Products on there have fake safety certifications!
Exactly. Any original beautiful thing created with love is taken and butchered for the lowest possible price by that bloody awful company. Your work is amazing. I'm so sorry you got stolen from.
And a nice bottle of gin more likely supports a small business too!
And you have gin! Winner!
You are so funny, lol! I’m in my early fifties, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about the 👓 😂! I’m not on TickTock so I hadn’t heard about the ancestor aurora thing. That’s hilarious. Of course, I’m sure our ancestors did hold it as a message or omen. I’ve seen it a few times growing up, and was always awed by it. I live in Texas, USA now so it’s too far south to see it. I almost choked on my drink when you made some comment about “frustrated scrap bookers”😂. I’m a novice witch, only since 2020. I found witchcraft on CZcams during the pandemic and realized I’ve always been a witch. Of course, Wicca-esque information was what I came across first, all these young influencers. I’ve never been really good with keeping a books of shadows, but I regularly keep a “Book of Mirrors” for tarot readings and other divination reflections. I also keep private thoughts about my spiritual development and interactions with various deities and spirits. I do love crafting and art and am developing as an art witch so I do love decorating with stickers, coloring book images, envelopes, etc… but it’s more like for either helping me remember new information or as part of a spell with my intention being imbued as I create with materials I’ve charged. I do like watching those videos because sometimes they inspire me for spells or study pages. You’ve been practicing since before it “was cool”. I do feel that some witchy content is more about the aesthetic rather than actual spell craft. It must be frustrating at times for you to see skills you’ve worked in and built when it was a less socially acceptable way of life be paraded as arts projects rather than the serious magical arts they are. Thanks for the tips on drying flowers and herbs. Your hand fasting sounds absolutely wonderful! Idk if you’ve ever considered a video covering the basics, but I’d love to see that. My nephew and his husband had a hand fasting a couple of years ago on Halloween. It was awesome (although most family members are uncomfortable with the LGBT community and witchcraft here in the south. Btw, if you feel like sharing that homemade cheddar broccoli bake recipe- I love to cook, and that sounds awesome. Blessed be. ❤
Welcome to Grumpy Old Crone! It's lovely to have you along for the ride. Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while - I went to a festival and ended up with covid :-( I think you are spot on with the aesthetic thing. Real witchcraft doesn't care how it looks. I will absolutely do a video on handfasting - there seems to be a dearth of information out there. Right, back on to planning the next video!
Loved this ❤❤❤
Thankyou!
love this... what do think about the other subscription boxes like Tamed Wild or The Witches Roots?
I have to have a look, I think!
Love it! 🖤😄👍🍀
Thank you 😁
i hope you're doing better!
I got Covid! I'm better now though :-)
Just found your channel and subscribed...your very entertaining and your views interesting..
Thankyou! I've had Covid, so been out of circulation for a while. But getting back on the horse now! (or the hoarse, given what the coughing did to my voice...)
Calm down Karen! How about people doing what brings them joy? No one's forcing to but these adult coloring books.

Spotting a badger in the wild is a great experience.

Super sensible!
Bill Hicks had some good material on this theme.
I often wonder what Bill Hicks would make of the Social and Political landscape if he was alive today. I mean, he'd probably explode with anger, but he'd skewer it VERY accurately, I feel.
@@GrumpyOldCrone I think Alex Jones tries to ape Bill Hicks in that way.
