it's all about the rating fixation.....even in the title: "....until I reach a 2000 RATING"....if there was no rating visible and no goals for reaching certain numbers, one wouldn't get frustrated by losing and losing rating points. that pressure of HAVING TO perform to reach certain number is psychologically creating fears and barriers that get triggered during the game. I bet that if one played just for fun (without rating fixation), the performance would go up and be steady.

You are afraid to exchange pieces. Even Magnus exchange early to simplify his position. Then, you put yourself under pressure and make mistakes. But the biggest problem is your confidence. You have to believe in your ability to win games.

Patrick. Been watching your games since February 2024. I noticed that you loose on time a lot. I have learned that when you are spending a lot of time in one move, say 1 minute, just decide to play one move rather than spend so long when the 2 or 3 favorite moves have similar overall outcomes. What the engine isn’t telling you… 12 h3 - Bxf6 is a little hard to see. The key is recognizing the attack on the g4 bishop that occurs by moving the knight on f3. The trade of bishops frees up g5 so this discovered attack can happen with check. 14 Bxf3 - You found the best move Bc4 but talked yourself out of it for fear of losing a pawn. If black takes the pawn you have a really strong attack. Don’t be afraid to lose material for a strong attack and force yourself to do the calculation. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

When you have to choose a place for your knight at 9:04 . Always choose the square that isn´t threatened by a pawn. F5 is the best place because no pawn can expel your knight from there, the kinght could be living there rent free all the game and wait for the right time to jump and make a fork. Imagine if you could place your rook at d6 it is check mate. That is a plan, it doesn´t matter you are a piece down, try to sacrifice the other pieces as baits or distraction, put your knight at f5 and place your rook at d6 to check mate.

Since family and work considerations make getting a coach impractical, I suggest getting Artur Yusupov's book Build Up Your Chess 1. It has 34 chapters on various aspects of chess and each chapter has a test at the end with from 1 to 3 points for each question. You can find out which aspects you understand and which you need to work on. It's the next best thing to having a coach and you can use it at your leisure. I enjoy your channel very much and keep up the good work, you will get there.

Same issue again. Hopefully you’ll realize your issues aren’t in the opening. It is all board vision. When you had his king on e6, you only briefly considered an attack with your white bishop on c4. You didn’t notice his bishop was undefended if you moved your knight with check. Instead you went to your tendency to react and be defensive. That sometimes works for you if your opponent miscalculated and you end up better playing defense but practicing board vision (slowing down, examining for checks/captures all over) is going to help.

You should have developed your H rook to E1 before you began your attack. Also might have been better to have taken with your bishop, BxF3 rather than the pawn. Leaving black with isolated doubled pawn on the G file whereas you would still have a sold pawn structure. Then start attacking the isolated pawn.

In fact, the period when you got to 1550 was characterised by you taking your time in the opening. It doesn’t matter if your opponent has 5 minutes more on the clock if you are crushing them.

There is nothing wrong with playing different time controls once in a while as long as you can find enjoyment and something to learn from.

Better to not give up a game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth because you changed pitchers and the other manager put in a pinch hitter .

As i see it , its pretty much the same as from the beginning. Some of the advices given , i will try to list below. 1. Not going for simple openings and castle 2. Not addressing the time issue. 3 Not addressing the endgame problems. 4. Not addressing playing lower rated players And i could go on really. Just to be clear , i enjoy watching Patrick now and then But really it seems to me , that this is the level Patrick enjoys playing winning or losing. Thats fine by me ( why shouldent it be ) But regarding reaching level 2.000. That is of course never happening if this pattern continues , and thats also just perfect. Good luck Patrick.
