Whoever advised you to play faster time controls gave you terrible advice. When you haven't yet mastered the basic concepts of chess, when you're not familiar with all the variations of an opening, and when your pattern recognition skills aren't fully developed, any chess coach and expert will advise you to play THE LONGEST time control possible. It's clear to everybody watching that at this point in your development 10 minutes is proving to be way too little time for you to calculate properly, and you almost never think about your opponent's plan of attack beyond one, maybe two moves. So my advice is that you AT THE VERY LEAST double the time control and see how you fare at that time control. And Patrick for the love of everything good in life turn "show legal moves" on in the settings. Check at 13:57 for example you say "this pawn is undefended" without even considering Nh3 as a possibility, which granted is not a great move but at least CONSIDER ALL THE OPTIONS.
Best comment ever ! Because your pattern recognition skills are so underdeveloped, you take too long making decisions which a more experienced player would make more quickly because they recognise the important characteristics of the position, which enables them to reduce the number of candidate moves and play almost on intuition.
YES, the primary time controls he plays are blitz and bullet and it shows.
"My goal is to attack as quickly as possible" ... then never attacks ;) I even chuckled right when you said it because your play style seems very defensive. No hate, just funny observation.
Nonononono, treating the SYMPTOM is done through playing faster games, not the other way around! You won't get faster at calculating by playing fast, you'll just get faster at moving pieces, and most likely if you're moving faster you'll only end up making more subpar moves, not less...
You aren't able to calculate fast enough because you aren't allowing yourself the time to seriously practice your calculation skills. And of course not having (or not thinking you have) enough time to figure out your opponent's plan is also causing you to make a lot of "blind" moves only to very often be surprised at their responses. You need more time, not less. This would be clear to you if you could be honest with yourself and stop listening to easy ideas. If you play some slower games and allow yourself the time to properly outplay your opponent you'll be able to build some confidence again and continue the climb. We will all be happy to see this ( ' v ' )
That’s a great observation. I think there is some assumption that playing shorter time controls will somehow develop your ability to evaluate more quickly. I ain’t buying it. If we were 8 years old maybe that’s true. Not for folks our age. The great advantage youth has besides the more elastic brain is the time to drive repetition to extremes that working parents cannot do. You’d need thousands and thousands of hours of blitz or bullet to find the repetition worth the trouble. And, you’d just learn to be mind-numb and not really thinking the game through, in my uninformed opinion. I love the content, however it happens. I like your organic approach to learning and having fun and sharing it with us. That’s a big part of the draw here. If it costs you troll viewers, so be it. Even though I’m only around 6-700 elo, it’s really satisfying to watch you play and progress the way you do. Cazad0r75
I think shorter games is a bad idea until you’re seeing moves/positions more quickly! I think it could lead to more defeats with a resulting demoralising effect! Only my opinion! 😂
I like how black played, trading off the bishops and the queen as his pawn storm was slower than whites
My understanding is that castling queenside is less safe because the king stays closer to the centre.
That being said oppositie side castling always allows for agressive attacking sometimes fun games.
I castle Q side , he got no real attack.
4 moves later center to your K is wide open Patrick.😂
You had good ideas in that game. You only came unstuck at the end due to time pressure making proper board awareness difficult.
Spend less time on finding the best positional moves and grand plans in the early part of the game so you have more time to calculate specific tactics later in the game.
As long as your positional moves make some sort of improvement in your piece placement, then it's not too much of a problem if there are better moves that you've missed
The reasoning behind why queenside castling is usually bad is very simple - the game analysis shows it time after time. Here you skipped right over it ("good moves, good moves"), but it was still visible.
It's glaringly obvious, you need to play longer time controls.
I enjoy your videos! What music do you use?
It is just the sound of his brain
Consistency is the key to success....or is that not a saying :) Keep it up Patrick!
Question. Do you actually play only one game a day, or only one that you upload. Love the content man
only one that he uploads
@@jackweatherhead8171 good stuff
@@NICKandJAMEScomedy thanks
Plays blitz decent chunk
Consider offering opponent a rematch so that each day you would play the opponent both Black and White.
Halfway into the video, I noticed you were on the attack but then again the attack was aborted leaving some weakness behind.
What I guess is happening is you did lack the idea what your attack was trying to accomplish.
I have a hard time study attacking. Plenty to remember there..
People don't like you castling queenside because you're bare of defense's on that side in this game, also queenside castles is an attacking format which means you have to have an attack ready straight away
Do you only play one game a day? Your ELO just goes back and forth with every win and loss?
Patrick, your mic is so sensitive that we can hear a woman's conversation during the more silent moments. Probably a good idea to adjust sensitivity or close your door when you record.
Patrick lowkey flexing
@@Patrizschehaving a wife / girlfriend is flexing? Are you 6 years old?
Ah yes you did not see that move😱
You need to play 15 minutes games, it is the perfect timing to improve. I started with 15 minutes. Now Iam in 10 minutes and I reached 2000
The pattern continues: equal play but opponent takes far less time until Patrick is down to less than a minute and makes a critical error while opponent has no clock worries.
Good game. Black played better, but I liked how you played (quite decisively).
Gg
I am @8:16 and I see tactics to win a piece
congratulations
so sad
It is an interesting idea to play some shorter games. Once or twice a week you could post 3-4 3 min games. That would be fun. And might help.
Oh boy this is horrid advice for a guy who has such poor board vision
@@pandafragrance It was not my suggestion. It was suggested by somebody else and Patrick in the video - maybe you didn't watch the video yet? - said he thought it was an interesting idea. I am responding to that.
I also think it is an interesting idea. I don't think it will make him better at chess. Again, if you regularly watched Patrick's video and read my comments, you would probably know that I am not a fan of people playing fast chess to get better. In fact, I am not even a fan of long chess (though it is better) to improve. What I believe helps you get better is analysis of your games and I have a system for doing that. But that's another story.
But Patrick has pointed out - which again, I guess you already know - that he doesn't have the time to play longer games every day. And he probably wants to post every day. Though I don't think playing faster games will make him better at chess and might train him to think quicker and use his existing skills more effectively. But you are welcome to your own view.
Patrick has played 2,052 games of 3/0 blitz already. The laughably incorrect idea that playing shorter games might improve his time management appeals to him because it's easy.
Playing 3-0 definitely helps with playing less blunders in time scrambles. But it doesn't help you calculate better or play better moves.
Dear Patrick "The Pawn Grabber",
I unsubscribed from this channel yesterday. I saw today's video to see if I made the correct choice, indeed I did. I don't know if my past comments made other folks laugh (that was the main purpose), but I don't feel watching horrible chess online is sane for anyone nor posting direct negative comments all the time from my behalf. It's just amazing how horribly you really play. For instance at 19:26, why sacrifice your rook giving your opponent the chance to promote his f pawn? That's a BIG and ELEMENTAL...NO NO. I give you my word, I will not see any future videos and I will definitely not be coming back. I do want to conduct a little experiment. I will watch the game that you upload on December 22 (exactly six months from now if you haven't already thrown the towel) to see if you made any progress. I doubt you'll be above 1600.
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. See ya
No one will miss you. Bye
@@joedmitchell Gee, it's a shame people throughout my entire life didn't follow that advice either. The world is a sick place, this ain't birds and bees and flowers. So, if you wanna tag along Patrick "The Pawn Grabber" and his friends from the Castro district, be my guest.
Bro, go touch some grass.
good riddance, don't come back kiddo 🤡🤡
