    You ABSOLUTELY have to know pawn Vs pawn and king endings at 1500 you had to keep opposition with the king , keeping your king one square in front of whites pawn or two squares in front of Whites king. Good luck next time good luck next time.

    King D4 would have won you a pawn and maybe the game.

    Generally it's knights before bishops. You will always play your bishop to f5 as black. How about playing Nf6 first? Here that would have saved you from losing material in the first five moves.

    Amazing that you missed Kd4 at the end Patrick, that's just so elementary - I thought you were studying endgames ? You're drawing some stronger opponents at the moment, I'm sure there'll be a 1450 patsy along shortly for you to beat up on !

    • @tripolarmisfit
      @tripolarmisfit Před 12 dny +4

      Studying endgames??? HAHAHA that's a laugh! Patrick "The Pawn Grabber" DOES NOT study endgames and even if he does, he forgets what he read or what he saw. His strategy to reach 2000 is simply wishful thinking.

  • @screamingliner
    @screamingliner Před 11 dny

    How's that Silman book? But seriously, endgames require a different mindset. When you took the b-pawn there was no mention that it allowed White to transition to a pawn-up king-and-pawn endgame, which is a HUGE change in the position that has to be considered. K+P endings are concrete and require calculation (drawing arrows isn't calculation). Playing on principles won't cut it.

    Ive said it before...try the dutch defense against d4. Its basically a system opening. Very natural moves that lead to a solid middle game position with good attacking chances. It stops the london and queens gambit simultaneously and takes people out of theory almost immediately at this level. Give it a shot

    • @davidyoung3452
      @davidyoung3452 Před 10 dny

      I've been playing the Dutch all my life, I love it and it's good way to try and win as Black against d4. But it is fundamentally positionally unsound, which is the reason why top players don't play it

    • @willbollman6246
      @willbollman6246 Před 10 dny

      @@davidyoung3452 well, he's not a top player. I think at the 1500-1600 level the dutch is a solid choice because like I said, it's rare that a player knows the main line and the subtitles of how to punish it

    • @davidyoung3452
      @davidyoung3452 Před 7 dny

      @@willbollman6246 with the greatest respect I would describe the Dutch as anything but solid - shoving your f pawn to f5 on your first move opens up all kinds of weaknesses, which can only be concealed by attacking regardless of positional justification for so doing

    • @willbollman6246
      @willbollman6246 Před 7 dny

      It's not as weak as you think it appears. That's the beauty of it. Many times it goads players into trying to exploit a weakness that simply doesn't exist...if white plays correctly. The dutch was a weapon for me in achieving a 1500+ elo. It is even played by titled players. And just what are "all these weaknesses" you're talking about? Yes it temporarily opens a diagonal to the king but there's not really a way white to exploit it. The lenningrad dutch is basically a kings Indian with a pawn on f5 in front of the knight....where is the weakness?

    • @davidyoung3452
      @davidyoung3452 Před 6 dny

      @@willbollman6246 Don't get me wrong, I've been playing the Dutch for 30 years and still love it. But I'm not under any illusions as to its soundness - White has far more central control, more space and better development for all his pieces. There is absolutely no positional justtfication for Black's "attack"!

  • @jamesmcavoy5440
    @jamesmcavoy5440 Před 12 dny

    If you go a pawn down early in the game avoid trades unless you have a decent attack on your opponents king. At this level, opponents are likely to grind down to an end game once they are a pawn ahead and you will always be losing.

  • @Roberto-bd9fq
    @Roberto-bd9fq Před 12 dny

    You wanted Nb3 to blockade though it was probably still lost.
    The way draw these is to get 2 pawns for the piece or even one if it's the last one. Or your opponent could blow it. He did but then you gave it right back. When he plays Kf3 you play Kd4. You chase his king, and now the e4 pawn will fall. It's called vacating the defense of a square, and as you say the board is constantly changing, you have to change with it, if he plays h4 you just take it. It's a draw, but you gave him a second chance. I bet you don't do that again.
    Analysis: I have given up with saying you should bring a rook to the c file.

    Pretty much the same comment as yesterday Patrick. You played well against a strong opponent,. Obviously you made an error in the opening and lost a pawn. Often at this level that is enough and so it proved (though I did notice from your analysis that you got back level). But you didn't collapse. You made your opponent work hard for the win.
    That said, at 23:09 it probably doesn't make any difference. However, without needing to count all the squares, at your level your intuition should tell you that Kf4 is lost. There is no way that you get across to the h3 and g4 pawns and your own pawns queen before white's e pawn queens. It is only 4 moves for them. So although you were under time pressure this takes a fraction of a second to see. So as soon as you moved Kf4 it is was over. White was queening.
    You had the chance to draw the end game. I only have one thing to say - pawn endings.

    I wouldn’t feel too bad about this one. You just played a stronger player. They were more prepared in the opening and had better calculation. You played pretty well though. If you maintain this level you’ll improve your ranking.

    • @danielward7008
      @danielward7008 Před 12 dny

      He won't though. This is his level and he doesn't put the time in to get any better. Remember his opponent blundered away a won position in the endgame and Patrick failed to capitalise.

  • @LJones69
    @LJones69 Před 12 dny

    There’s only two ways for you to loose and ones by you timing out. All he had to do was wait you out…. Not to mention you actually let his pawn escape right down the middle of the board at the end….allowing him to dominate. End game needs a lot of work

    Another day, another game Patrick "The Pawn Grabber" throws out the window due to his lack of endgame knowledge. At 21:55 Kd4 was actually the move to win the game. If king moves he loses the e4 pawn. If he pushes h4 he loses it. Funny how the "Pawn Grabbing Mode" was not ignited on this endgame. I guess that's just for openings and middle games.

      @@patrickcorn70 That's right. But for Patrick, drawing a losing endgame against a higher rated opponent which would've gained him elo points, would've been a win in my opinion. Catching my drift? Or am I being obtuse?

    Hi Patrick, I've been loosely following you for a while. At this point I'm going to chime in on comments that you should study more outside of these games for a chance to improve. If you'd like to just play one game a day and upload it for fun that's all well and good. But if you want to really improve you need to change your approach. Telling you this not to hate or discourage but hope you will heed the advice.

  • @GentlePro
    @GentlePro Před 12 dny +7

    I said it before and I'll say it again, perhaps this time you'll heed my advice. You CANNOT be out of theory by move 5, that's just unacceptable at this level. And then when you're analyzing you find out that a move was a miss but you don't check what the miss was, AGAIN. Sorry Patrick but you have to put in the time to study the game before having any hope of improving your Elo. I said that you have a 0% chance of reaching a rating of 2000 and this is more true now than ever if you don't change your approach. And please for the love of god turn on "show legal moves" in the settings, you keep just not even considering unbelievably obvious moves.

      Overly dramatic. No one's 'booked up' at this level. He didn't follow principles and he repeated a mistake he'd made before. Improving this will get him much further than putting hours into trying to learn a IF - THEN opening tree

      Bro I'm rated 1800 and out of book by move 3 😂
      Patrick just needs to improve his board vision.. he fails to see basic threats and opportunities even after looking at the position for 20 seconds. So often i hear analysis analysis analysis... oh wait, my queen is under attack! That should have been the first thing he saw, not the fifth thing. And ultimately such vision only develops with time, practice, and puzzles
