Fairhope downtown near Another Broken Egg, That one block reminds me a bit of the tourist towns in Colorado. The pretty colors on the buildings, flowers, and overall look is kinda like Breckenridge or Estes Park Colorado. (Without the mountains of course) The park by the Fountain on the bay is beautiful.

We learned about Fairhope and we love it, and we wanted to be near the beach. But our realtor found a 4 bedroom brick ranch with a big fenced yard in Foley. The price was much lower and it is close to downtown, not in a Subdivision. Pros and cons to that. Homeowners that really care about the upkeep of their homes and some that don’t. Fewer night spots and the town closes early, but Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are close and they stay open much later. I like it because it’s centrally located. Pensacola and Mobile are 45 minutes away. Many native Alabamans but tons of upper midwesterners. Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin. A good mix. If you’re from the northeast
.probably not for you and I know. I grew up in NJ but then lived 30 years in Atlanta, so pretty easy for me. Culturally, not a lot but Fairhope has more of those kind of things as well as Gulf shores and of course, Pensacola. But you get a small town feel. It depends if you want that. You have to visit and make up your own mind and it’s easy to make friends if you’re willing to try. Like anywhere else.

Hi Tony and Jess: Although I plan on retiring later this year (even though my bosses are begging me put it off) I'm still roughly 5 years away from leaving the wretched icebox of NW Wisconsin (mostly for health insurance reasons, but also my son is still in college). I'm looking at relocating to either Southern Alabama or Southern Georgia (along the Florida border). Both areas have a much lower cost of living than FL. I'm also at the age that I don't want to be in the bullseye of a hurricane (or multiple hurricanes) every year. Also, both AL and GA offer very generous tax incentives to retirees (something that my state's elected officials fail to grasp). If I want to visit any of the Gulf Coast beaches, I can be at them in a matter of 2-4 hours (at the most) depending on traffic. As for what I would look for, being in a more rural area, I'd be looking at a doublewide (3B/2B, but might go as high as 4B/3B if the price was right). One advantage I would probably have, based on speaking to a few agents in those areas, is that I would be able to pay cash. Reason being is that (not all, but a significant number) lenders will not finance a manufactured home. Roughly a year and a half ago I was very angry, bitter, and resentful when I realized I would be priced out of a Florida retirement (and I was looking at the middle of the state north of Orlando (between Leesburg and Ocala. At one time both areas were considered a bargain for budget minded retirees like myself. Now the entire state is overpriced). However, living in a rural area, I would probably stick out like a sore thumb with my northern accent.

We have northern accents and everyone is more than inviting so it doesn't matter. Our best friends were born and raised here in LA, they're probably the nicest people we've ever met. @@LivingInLowerAlabama With regards on how long it takes to get to the beach would depend on where your starting destination is. If you live in Baldwin or Mobile Counties, it probably wouldn't take that long. If you are coming from Atmore it would take about an hour and a half (at the shortest point) to get to Gulf Shores (it's roughly an hour to Pensacola Beach at the shortest point). If you are as far East as Eufaula it's about 4 1/2 hours to Gulf Shores (roughly 3 hours to Panama City Beach). If you are even further East as Thomasville, GA it would take 4 1/2 to 5 hours to Gulf Shores (roughly 3 hours to Panama City Beach). And I got all these time distances from the Driving Directions website. I was just casting a wide net on how ling it would take to get to the beaches based on where you lived.

Appreciate you sharing realistic expectations that one should consider. How much income would a single retiree need to relocate to Baldwin County? I have read that Alabama is very tax friendly for retirees. Thank you for making another fantastic video. P.S. What is the average age of the people living in Baldwin county?

NOT TRUE ??? BS !! It is always jammed packed as more and more sheeple keep moving in from their democratic run states. Foley has become a greed for money city. I live here and have to go swim in Pensacola Florida since it is always crowded and can't find parking which is now $15 if you can find a spot. I lived here for 13 years and it has changed from a beautiful retirement city to bumper to bumper circus. Being you people work for real estate you will tell people anything to sell a home. Anyone need the proof of how bad Foley has gotten, contact me as I have photo proof.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and something tells me you're Moody more often than not! 😂😂😂 We mention in a lot of our videos how congested Foley is, BUT.... it's definitely subjective. Especially, when you come from one of the largest cities in America.

Do your homework before you move anywhere. The advice I heard is if you want to move somewhere, visit it at least three times.
