    If I am not watching the instrument cluster there are two ways I might first notice that the battery has been depleted: Increased responsiveness and a little new noise. Usually I get both at the same time when I try to accelerate and the Prius REALLY goes plus the engine noise becomes noticeable. Then I look at the instrument cluster and go "Oh, yeah,..."

      Not sure, but it’s the driver side and maybe from squeezing in and out of the car. I never had this issue with any Toyotas I’ve owned previously and the dealer replaced at no charge. I am careful now getting in though not sure what actually caused it, maybe a defective part. Car is garaged so not sure if it’s weather related. Stripping seemed very flimsy and split occurred much higher than my entry point.

    I have 1,500 odometer miles on my 2024 Prius Prime since taking delivery in early January. To date, I still have 3/4 tank of gas from the original dealer fill. I have purchased about 13 kW electricity through my home utility grid. The rest of charging has come from a free EV station or from excess home PV production. I estimate my out of pocket gas and electricity cost total about $25. In my situation I am pleased having chosen this Prius. I am glad the Prius computer will inform when the fuel tank needs some fresh gas to negate stale gas issues, since it could be a while before I need to replenish the tank.

      @@MarkCeeee I don't have an issue with my Prius set to EV mode primarily. I am grateful to be using free electricity the vast majority of the time for battery charging. I would rather use up my battery charge before going to the gas engine. In the few times when the battery becomes drained, the gas engine will kick in on HV mode. In my area, gas powered miles are less expensive than electric powered miles whenever I have to purchase electricity from the grid.

  • @johnfromnewjerseyusa1369

    *If you need to let the car sit for a few days, try leaving the charge at around 50%.* Until the night before you’re going to drive it. Then finish charging it all the way as normal. ============ Here’s why I suggest that: Last year I heard “The Car Care Nut”… (a mechanic who left a Toyota dealership in Chicago after 20 years… to open his own shop) …say that batteries are the most stable at around 50% charge. He mentioned that’s why new cell phones are always at 50% charge when you take them out of the box: The factory shipped them in the most stable condition. He also said something about 100% being very unstable. That’s why the Prius wants to know when you’ll start driving in the morning: It will adjust the charging speed so that it gets to 100% just when you’re about to get in and start driving. (And so scheduling the charging really helps the battery.) And I think he said that 80% was much more stable than 100%.

      Interesting, we finally got our 2024 Prime after a 21 month wait. After 1,300km and using full EV mode, we get on average 80km on battery alone. Good considering the ambient temperatures currently hover around 5c. There are no flat roads here. To get my wife to and from her (post) health care career to her part time job involves a decent of almost 500' and then that long climb back up. I expect the distance to increase when the temperatures rise. As you know, you need to be conscious of driving habits to achieve 80km of range. This is our first Prime but, third Prius. Would it not be great if a 2025, and beyond model(s), offered even more EV range.

  • @flingmonkey5494
    @flingmonkey5494 Před 11 dny

    I have been wondering about this. The car tells you how much charge it received, but that is not the same as the power delivered to the charger. There is always loss. The power company, of course, charges you for electricity taken at the AC outlet, not what the car actually got from the charger. I did discover that the quality of my extension cord that the charger is plugged into makes a serious difference. I swapped cords and started using an older cord I had lying around, and my Prius was not charging overnight. It turned out that the end of the cord had a problem and where the charger plugged into it would get warm, too warm. It was a resistive connection, not a clean connection. The charger plug has a temperature sensor in it, and if it gets too warm, as a safety feature, the charger shuts off. I switched back to my newer cord and the problem went away.

The problem is that the only time I ever cleaned my windshield, historically speaking, was when I filled the tank. The meter tool counts the amount taken from the electric network, but part of this is lost during the charging process. Longer the charging time, more the loss is (but seems a bit much in this case). Most likely the Toyota App counts only the amount taken into the battery without the losses.

    • @MarkCeeee
      @MarkCeeee Před 16 dny

      Meter plugin is pretty accurate and I’ve charged publicly as well. In both instances the Toyota app reports 55% of the actual usage of actual draw. My electric bill corroborates the meter draw as well. It costs about $85 to charge monthly and I fill up every five to six weeks with about 8-9 gallons of gas. I would spend $125-150 with my 2015 Prius for gas doing the same commute, so somewhat cheaper and really more convenient to charge at home overnight. The real advantage is using the HOV lane for commuting.

    Comparing my last ChargePoint of 6.723 kWh to the Toyota report of 3.605 it is only 54% of the ChargePoint measure. I hope this is fixed one day in an update. The ChargePoint Measure is reasonable considering the battery was more than half drained. Also 2hr 20 minutes is reasonable for a half charge time. The Toyota number is just wrong. At home I am completely off grid and that is where the car normally charges so the electricity has a marginal cost of zero. I think for an off grid user who has enough electricity for a Prius Prime but not for a Tesla it is the best car in the world at any price.

  • @vert911

  • @johnfromnewjerseyusa1369

    If I’m remembering correctly… …the meter’s results are very consistent with the results of the public charging app you use when you charge for free. (At the beach?) That app gave you results that were (exactly?) the same percentage off from the Toyota app. (I think.) 💡 Idea: *If you feel like it, why not bring the meter with you the next time you charge for free at a public charging station?* And see (I think) that the public charging station app is giving you 100% accurate results. And if you wanted to use the meter’s app, then maybe you could switch your phone’s “mobile hotspot” On. (To provide the WiFi for the app to function.) # # # # And thanks for making this video about the meter! 🙏 🙂

    *Your guess makes 100% total sense:* In some vehicles water is getting in via the rear door seals which is then shorting out the (electronic) rear door latches. Here are some thoughts: · Now we see the downside of electronic door latches! 😄 · I wonder how difficult it will be for your dealership to replace ALL your door seals, both front & rear. (How many hours will it take?) Considering you need at least the front driver's side replaced. · The last thing it says in the Toyota app, under "Overview" is that (for some other people whose rear latches have already shorted out) *"Rear Door May Open While Driving"* 😲 THAT must be why they halted production! · Under "Remedy" it says Toyota will replace the rear *"switches"...* · *estimated ...in the 3rd Quarter! (July - September)* · They didn't mention replacing the seals which are (apparently) letting the water in, which is causing the latches to short out. (But will they also consider that fix afterwards???) And I'll bet it will be more difficult and time consuming to replace the seals, as compared to replacing the switches. Which is already a costly hassle -- for Toyota. · I assume they'll quietly/silently go back to using the good quality materials they previously used in the door seals. (Maybe they were saving a few dollars with new materials?) · And I assume their lawyers & public relations team will tell them to *never mention that the door seals were the cause of the problem.* · Maybe they'll resume 2024 Prius production once they have enough new rear door switches and better door seals available. But initially... All new switches will need to go to the current owners of 2023 & 2024 models. So how fast can they make all those new, improved switches??? The app says that your new switches are estimated to be available around 3rd Quarter... · ...And so I will therefore estimate that production of new Priuses cannot resume until (at least) 4th Quarter. (October - December) · I'm thankful my favorite car company doesn't have any worse problems. (Like other manufacturers do.) · And I consider you to be very fortunate: (a) You already own a new generation Prius Prime! 👍 (b) You can wait to get your new rear switches as long as it takes. It doesn't matter in your case. Since you aren't wearing out your rear door seals. You just need to replace your front driver's side seal. They should be in stock. Or else available in a day or two. It should be all fixed in the near future. (Next few weeks.) And Mark, I'm really thankful for you sharing all your Prius Prime experiences with the rest of us (future) Prius Prime owners!

      I guess my car will not be arriving in June/July. If it hasn’t left Japan for the UK yet they will probably keep it in Japan until they fix the rear door switches. I imagine I won’t get it until the end of the year or next.

    I don't know what's going on with Toyota. I got my brand new 2024 Prius Prime a month ago. Have needed to call road side assistance 3 times for a dead 12 volt battery. Car now with less than 700 miles. Has been at the dealer's shop more than with me. Problem still not resolved.

      Seems to be a common problem with Hybrids, PHEVs and EVs. Lead acid 12 volt batteries are not the best in this applications. Without the loading of starting an internal combustion engine sulfate crystals can form on the plates.
