I dont know what videos were filmed by percussa at superbooth. from my side, as indie dev... polyphony is highly dependent on oscillators used etc, as dsp varies a lot. for a couple reasons Ive not really been focus on comparing SSP vs XMX. a) I need to get trax running on ssp b) Im will optimising core usage on xmx. what I can say is, im happy with the xmx performance, but its not quite as powerful as the SSP. (but 1/4 the price ;)) audio rate tuning, sure.. ,as a virtual modular, it has v/oct (audio rate) cv on oscillators.

as I mentioned in the video, there will also a version of Synthor (by Percssa) which has an alternative UI. also my UI is still in dev, and I hope to work with the community to improve it. (obviously xmx was under NDA before release, so I could talk to anyone during that dev phase!)

Current SSP UI is terrible. Really looking forward to seeing alternative approaches as the SSP is powerful but it completely stands in the way of user flow and creativity.

yeah, originally, Bert thought the screen would be too small to patch effectively on, hence the idea of the editor. but people did not respond well to the idea of a needing a computer to patch. so, the idea evolved, to have patching on the module itself. the clip you see of synthor on this video is very early build, its not evolved quite a bit.... and looks good. its quite similar to how it is on the SSP, but the 'patching' of two modules has been simplified.

It’s an access virus. A synth but does emit CC so you can use as a controller too. Ssp you can patch midi cc in a similar way to how you’d do it in eurorack/vcv - also all my ssp modules feature midi lean for any on module parameter. I find this a really good way to use the ssp for ‘performance’ , so you don’t need to be switching between modules views. My ssp ‘review’ video details this a bit more.

in this video? It's connect to my Mac/Ableton (iirc) , which has tracks for both hardware and vsts. I cannot remember exactly, what I used... likely a mix of Virus and probably u-he vsts and vahalla reverbs. the external/mpe controller I used is an Erae Touch.

@@TheTechnobear cool man, thank you. I am saving up for either this or the oxi-one. I use almost exclusively iPad apps for sounds (op-z being my only sound making hardware and thats incidental, I got it to sequence the iPad), the Oxi has a battery and bluetooth which is a huge edge over the hapax, and the oxi is deep, but the hapax is deeper. People say its overkill for the ipad, but why? Ipad can make all the sounds, and Hapax adds the haddware Workflow experience. Thoughts?

@@jospehbloseph7172 yeah, each has its pros and cons…. Both are very powerful. personally, i prefer the form factor of hapax But no denying, Oxi is much more portable and that has its appeal. Feature wise, just depends on your needs, they each have their own strengths … so you have to go thru manuals and see which one aligns most to your needs and preferred workflow.

@@TheTechnobear as close to elektron as possible, lol. I love that workflow. I know the Hapax has the 8 knobs that correspond to the 8 spots on the screen like the Elektron, that fits the way I like to fast create and sequence. Anyway, thanks for answering my questions. I appreciate the time.

no, this is a hardware interface to the eigenharps... (not mpe)

if its missing, then likely issue is you did not use 'install' to install it, rather you just copied the files across... this will not work (I say this, as the install script creates this folder, so thats the only reason I can see it for being 'missing')

@@TheTechnobear thank you for your reply Mark. I am not sure what the issue is because the folder is not appearing after installation. The rest of orac works fine, everything as you are showing but not the 'usermodules' section. Thanks again, will keep digging. Edit: got it, was looking under orac in the 'user' section but it was in the SD card folder. Got a very useful pointer in the C&G forum. Thank you so much for creating such an awesome platform Mark!

If you want to see pd log then the easiest way is to start Orac from command line. Or you could probably use something like journalctl -u Orac as I think I start it as systemd, sorry not totally sure as it’s a very long time since I used norms/fates

@@TheTechnobear thanks kindly for the reply, runing orac mother.pd and mec from ssh command prompt shows some level of logs in the ssh command window, but couldn’t figure out how to get the remote pd ui window 😭. On a different note After starting sidekick from command prompt and launching some standalone pd patches( as you showed in on of the video that popped up the pd ui in remote machine) gave an xprop error with framebuffer dev/null, seems like an x forwarding issue and i am not sure where this x forwarding is happening inside sidekick. In One of the patchbox video for orac also you could get the orac pd ui in the remote machine and while modules are being selected or interacted with midi select buttons the pd ui was showing those changes on the remote machine… that’s is what I wanted to get so that I can figure out what’s wrong with the patch/module I am working with . scratching my head … the sfplayer patch that I am trying to use inside of orac seems like looking for the soundfont files somewhere, changed the path variables in some of the pd files but no luck so far.. I do totally respect your time and I know you mush be busy with other things , but still wondering if you are active / intermittently active in any forums so that I can put some screen shots explaining where I am stuck and if you get some time later could guide me.. Meanwhile 1. as part of troubleshooting I tried to open the actual pd files for the patch in local windows machine but the pd log window shows the dlls are not compatible.. 2. so I am going to get the copy of the patch into another raspberry pi in desktop mode with pd installed and see I could move forward. I realise I am late to this party, but the work that you have done is phenomenal for the open source sound design community. Many thanks Bear..!!!

Only one question as of now if you could remember, in the forum of orac for fates you have mentioned aux button will be implemented as button 2 in fates/norns , has this been done or how could I map a button of Norns/fates to trigger a function in orac/pure data , some json config like that ? Thanks and sorry to bother you with questions.

Yup... absolutely no other software required, you don't need to install EigenD or anything, just install VCV Rack, add plugin - ready to go! note: first release will be macOS (intel and arm), I might do linux if enough demand... windows is later.. its a bit of a pain

@@TheTechnobear Thats fantastic. It was always EigenD that presented a barrier to me picking up the Pico over other controllers sitting about in the studio.

@@bennorland yeah, I agree EigenD was a bit overbearing ... I have to say, I've loved playing with this with my pico - it just feels like such a natural fit... connecting your fingers to modules :)

Hmm not sure … I’d check you don’t have cv in allocated to something else ( eg clock) Also double check you have cv and gate in correct inputs… as iirc, gate is used to sample and hold the v-oct input. So having them wrong way round will mean you see nothing. Also check voltage range in settings.

YT comments are not a great place for lengthy discussions/replies... so I'll keep it short. I use it for a bit of 'everything' (voices, fx, sequencing, generative) just building stuff quickly according to ideas I have... rather than one particular use. though, I recognise, Im a bit different since, I can create new plugins where ever I feel a need etc. personally, I love the exploring different ideas , coming up with something new .. in the same way as you do with physical modular... I don't want to 'replicate' something, or use a just another fx/voice.... though it could be good for that..(after you develop a few skills in the patching area) so it all depends on your needs and direction, and for me, that's kind of the point of the SSP , its an open platform, it can be twisted and bent in many different directions... thats where (for me) its strengths lie. I recognise this is difficult, esp when you start out, as you cannot just turn it on, and get something 'wow'... so not saying my approach/use is typical. also I personally, don't think the factory patches are much more than 'examples' to learn from, they do NOT really demonstrate what the SSP is capable of. I know this has been a concern for many , who want a quicker way to get started, something to inspire them. I've been meaning to do a follow up (probably series) to this video, which gets more in to advance patching, and then could show more how I use it in practice... but of course, time is never on our side ;)

the main menu 'save' is for saving which preset is used at startup... so load an empty preset, then hit save.

yes you can do this (I do it with my virus)... for the virus, you'll have to use midi din, since the virus usb is not class compliant. (don't know about the OBX8)

@@TheTechnobear I can record in live mode on the Hapax but not record a sequence live to the Hapax from Virus keyboard itself via MIDI channel.
