The Llangollen Railway 2024 Diesel Gala - Trains at Llangollen & Berwyn
Footage from Llangollen and Berywn stations during the Llangollen Railway's 2024 Diesel & Industrial Gala. This gala had a few fun highlights, including 0-6-0 Industrial Tank 5459 "Austin 1" operating break van rides to Llangollen Goods Junction, D2892 "Pilkington" making a rare appearance operating light loco moves around Llangollen station, and visiting Class 08 Shunter 08202 operating its first passenger services on the Llangollen Railway. Unfortunately, 5310, the Llangollen's resident Class 26, had failed the previous night and therefore wasn't operating any services on the date I visited. However, the brilliant volunteers kindly allowing me into the cab of 47449 at Llangollen more than made up for this - a great day out overall.

47773 with Vintage Trains' "Ffestiniog Express" railtour at Tal-y-Cafn, a beautiful rural halt on the Conwy Valley Line. This is the first station I've ever visited that has a manual level crossing, which has to be opened and closed by the crossing keeper. The journey to this station is about as scenic as it gets, following the sea along the North Wales Coast line until Llandudno Junction, then...

The main highlight was seeing 47815 "Great Western" and 86401 "Mons Meg" double-heading on the Northern Belle's "Settle & Carlisle Special". A brilliant day at the Llangollen Railway's Branchline Gala. We start off at Berwyn, where we see 68067, on her final weekend at the railway, piloting Class 26 No. 5310 on the first train of the day. Later, the double header passes through non-stop, hauled by GWR Pannier Tank 7754 and the returning 2884 Class No. 3802, the star of Llangollen's fleet. After that, the Class 108 DMU passes through...
Double Headed Black 5s tackle the Heart of Wales Line - 44871 and 45407 on the Great Britain XVI

The pair are first seen at Broome station, where there was a large crowd further along the platform - I wasn't expecting this station to be anywhere near this busy. I then ...

Cracking footage!! That 31 is an absolute beast, no questions asked
Thanks for watching mate, it certainly is. For as long as I've been visiting Llangollen, that 31 has always been one of the main highlights with how hellfire it can be
Nice Belle pal.
Cheers mate, it always looks very smart when they put on the 57s with the matching liveries
Excellent location to capture the SVR working.
Thanks for watching, definitely a location I'll be coming back to for future SVR galas, to keep away from the big crowds at the main stations
Crewe was surprisingly quiet as you said, im hoping to get 86259 along with mount of edgecombe along the WCML on saturday
Thanks for watching pal, hope you do manage to catch those, I won't be able to because I will be at the Llangollen Railway diesel gala
Excellent Footage Mate 👏
Thanks pal 👍
Tell u what Mate u Found a Great Spot There Pal Especially the 40 Awesome 👌
Thanks pal, nice quiet spot away from the crowds, and good thrash in both directions, can't ask for much more than that. Agree about the 40, D1062 was also hellfire
I'm sure you had a great day, and will be back again soon. Haha, yes, I had doubts about going at first because it would be busy . But although very busy, I always managed to get a seat when I wanted one, although only went as far as Bewdley and Highley. Bewdley platform was packed and uncomfortable in the afternoon, when I had to change trains, and there were 3 in the station
I will certainly be back for their steam gala in September. It was a shame to hear about a few incidents caused by the crowding - reportedly two fights yesterday, one at Kidderminster that resulted in someone being pushed off the platform onto the track, and then a less serious altercation at Hampton Loade that involved quite a lot of shouting and threatening but nothing physical. But for the most part, everyone I came across was very nice and civil, just a few idiots ruining it for everyone else
Great video at a nice spot! Muat have seen you as I passed on a few of these!
Thanks for watching Phil, my first time visiting the SVR and I think I've picked a pretty good location. Very brave of you to travel onboard on the Saturday knowing how packed some of these trains get at the weekend!
Cracking footage! So good to see the log train on this part of the line, let alone double 70s hauling!
Thanks for watching mate, I'd been keeping my eyes on this for quite a few weeks because of how rare it was, double 70s was definitely unusual too
You did very well.
Thanks for watching mate 👍
Excellent Mate 👍 Nice Flowers aswell 👍
Thanks pal, it's certainly a nice, well-maintained station which is always good to see 👌
Great video. I really like Preston Station, but normally only stop there when passing through or visitimg Ribble Steam Railway
Thanks for watching, I don't go to Preston very often myself, this is only my second time visiting, but yes it's a nice station, with the added bonus that you won't get wet on rainy days like this one
Great video. Certainly was a brilliant gala!!! I was probably stood near to you at some point in the day.
Thanks for watching, seems likely given how many people were there! It was certainly a brilliant gala, most enjoyable one I've been to for quite a long while 👌
Great footage, amazing to see steam down the heart of wales, i was going to see it at lime street but i couldnt in the end
Thanks for watching mate, sorry to hear you weren't able to see it. I knew I'd have to get out to see this with it being the first steam on the Heart of Wales for three years, it was an 11 hour round trip but well worth it
Cracking footage! I was very confused as to where the 47 on the rear had disappeared to given it was still on the set passing Chirk. Turns out they ditched her at Craven Arms - wonder if she couldn't be taken on to the Heart of Wales for whatever reason
Thanks for watching mate, I did wonder what that light loco path from Craven Arms was - I didn't realise there was a 47 on the tour until Craven Arms. I'm sure 47s are allowed on the HoW because I can definitely remember a 47-hauled tour along the line somewhat recently, my best guess is that with the 47 on the rear, the full consist wouldn't quite fit into some of the passing loops - I hear that one of them, Llanwrtyd I think, was tight even without the 47
@@theretrocrowe47's & 57's are indeed allowed on the HOW line. JG.
Awesome That was mate 👍 Great Footage 👍
Thanks for watching pal, been chasing the two 5s across the Heart of Wales today, should have the video of that out later 👍
@@theretrocrowe Good good look forward to the footage mate 👍
Crewe was good to you again I see.
Indeed it was, glad to have such a good station as my local. Crewe never disappoints on a busy day
Wow you captured some very interesting workings from on your two visits to Crewe I see.
Thanks for watching, yes these were two good interesting trips
Excellent shot. Like
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed :)
Nice video it looked weird seeing the railtour with mk2s instead of mk1s
Thanks for watching, yeah I much prefer the Mk1s personally, the maroon mk2s just look strange
You did well getting this tour a few times, locos looked good.
Thanks mate, my original plan was to see them at Long Eaton on the return leg but had to scrap that plan because my phone was low on charge and I didn't fancy being stuck at Long Eaton with my phone dead. The choice of locos was brilliant, two 66s that are yet to do any tours, it looked like a brilliant day out all around
Really enjoyed this compilation, a great mixture of loco's, we both seem to get about a bit lol...Mal
Thanks for watching Mal, it's always great to get to different locations for a change of scenery 👍
Tesco getting a big delivery from the 88 😃 Congrats on 400 subs 👍
Thanks mate, that Tesco train is always an impressive one to film, usually has about 35 containers on it
Excellent Footage mate 👏 Big Congrats on 400 Subs mate 👍
Thank you so much pal 🎉
Congrats on 400 subs!! 🎉
Thank you so much! 😃
Nice! I saw 44871 on Saturday (2nd March 2024) but in the peaceful surroundings of Betley. Couldn't be bothered to drive into Crewe even if it is a bit easier these days for the station 😅
Thanks for watching! I also saw 44871 on Saturday, I filmed it at Crewe and Chester on the outbound journey, then at Crewe again on the way back. It's certainly a very nice area around Betley, I used to go there often as well as Madeley.
Oh yes when there is a class 37s about locally its great if can get out there and film in, which you did in poor weather. Well done for filming this move.
Thank you very much for your comment, I knew I'd have to head out for this as soon as I found out about it. The weather had been very nice all morning but took a turn for the worse as soon as I got to Cuddington
Excellent Footage mate 👏
Thanks for watching pal 👍
Cracking clips! Typical that on the same day - hail at the worst possible time and high chance of bowlage on a line that gets a measly 1tph!😆
Thanks for watching mate - thought the same things about the bad luck I had this day! It started raining heavily at Delamere as well but it went off just a few minutes before the 37s passed 😂
Oh wow, I was actually at Crewe when you were filming. I came in on the red+white TfW train (67029), watched the 2nd railtour pull out. I actually got a decent video of 67029 leaving heading back towards Cardiff.
Thanks for watching, glad to hear you got some good footage 😀 👍
Last Saturday at Crewe, yes you picked a very good day I see.
Thanks for watching, was definitely a good morning, saw plenty considering I was only there for about an hour and a half
Excellent locos on this gala pal. Well done for covering this gala.
Thanks for watching, this was a fantastic gala, really good day out 👍
Great seeing the 56 and then the class 20s.
Thanks for watching pal, was indeed brilliant to see such good variety on this usually quiet line. The 20s really put on a show with that thrash
Great catches, certainly a good day for that line
Thanks for watching Phil, there was definitely plenty of variety considering how little freight traffic this line usually gets 👍
God those 20s sounded incredible - such an under appreciated thrash!! Cracking footage
Thanks mate, couldn't agree more about the 20s, my favourite locos because the thrash is so incredible. I knew I was in for a treat when the signal changed to green all the way to Kidsgrove instead of it being shoved into the loop like the 56
Wow Awesome Footage Mate I'm Glad them 97s Waited For the unit to Clear 👍
Thanks for watching pal, that was an absolutely class move from the driver, held off until the unit cleared and then gave it hellfire through the station, absolutely brilliant 👏
@theretrocrowe Yeah Keep up Your Great Work Mate 👍
@@37418 Thanks pal, you too. We've got the Class 37 Test Train on the Mid-Cheshire coming up this Friday, I will be chasing this one across North Wales and Cheshire over the next few days 👍
Top stuff! Great to chat with you at Alsager. Not as busy today (Tuesday) but did have a rather tuneful COLAS loco :) (I was there and The Trainman caught it on video).
Thank you for watching, glad you managed to find my video! Was indeed very nice to talk to you. You should have the 20s heading back to Crewe on Thursday, looks like something worth seeing, although I unfortunately won't be able to see that because I will be in Conwy to see a Network Rail test train that day
@@theretrocrowe The TT flew through Alsager at about 12:20ish, so good luck catching it later 👍
@@CompleteCretin That would've been a different test train, the one I was going to see was with Class 37s, not the HST. I didn't go in the end because it looked like the test train was cancelled, but then it ran anyway so I missed it. I'm now hoping to instead see it on the Mid-Cheshire line tomorrow
That was,Superb Footage mate 👌
Thank you pal, I think this might be my favourite video of mine that I've ever filmed so pleased you liked it too 😀
@theretrocrowe No problem mate Continue Your Great Work 👍
Great footage! Seems like it ended up being a good turnout for a winter event. I was planning on going myself though, unfortunately I was sick on that weekend haha😅
Thanks for watching, sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. I was quite surprised at the turnout too, the Pacer was almost completely empty but everything else had plenty of people onboard, especially 37109, not much of a surprise that the busiest train was the 37
@@theretrocrowe Yeahh that 37 consist looked rammed! All of em eagerly waiting the nearing tunnel haha
Very nice, like!😀!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed this video 🙂
Was great that you captured them class 37s.
Thanks for your comment, I was glad when I saw this move appear on RTT the night before because it didn't look like there would be anything worth going out to see but this is definitely one of my favourite ever catches
Awesome as Always 👍
Thanks pal, I think this was one of the best mainline days I've had for a long while, plenty going on and met some great people while I was there 😀 👍
Nice video, likes from me ! ! !
Thank you, appreciate that 🙏
Nice video :)
Thanks for watching pal 👍

I see myself at 17:29
Thanks for watching, there were a fair few people there so I would imagine we both appear on quite a few other people's videos. It always feel strange seeing yourself on someone else's video 😂
I know, it surprised me the amount of people there because I got there around midday and by that time there wasn't really anything special due through
