So sad i can't afford a real worthy dojo, and train with masters, like you Gary, I actually need some help with training at hom, my brother also trains martiak arts, but he has 0 interest in wing chun, i can only use a chai and replace wooden dummy that way, but the rest is a mystery question, how important is siu jim tao to learn, and how can i use my wing chun techniques and master them in a fight? Is it enough to just spar with my brother, or i definitely need some drills instead of just hitting the chair?
Sifu Gary, i need your help, i have a problem with the fear of being hit in the face, everybody i know got rid of that fear, and when I pucnh, they act like i just threw a tenis ball, they literally catch and block it, but when i try to block punches or even counterattack, I'm scared as if someone uses a gun agaisnt me, i blink, i lean back, i run away, i raise my knee because of that fear, only a few moments when i managed to block everything so easly because my opponent was shorter and his punches were so easy to block because of his body structure, and can't even scare me off with fake jabs, but my brother is scary as f*** 😂, i don't know how to deal with him, he just throws me at wall and the pressure is killing me, I'm so afraid i blink lean back and give up, my techniques work only when I'm straight and not scared, I don know how to cure this 😢
You need to train more. The more you train, the more your confidence will improve.
Another great lesson.
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Another great share - can't wait for the seminar in August - thank you for sharing your experience
Thank you. Looking forward to seeing you in August.
I had missed the first few seconds. He’s showing how when you press down on an arm/hand, he has a fulcrum that can bend up and around. He can go underneath. We give him options by using gum sao wrong. Ahhhh. I understand now. The second motion, he collects two hands with his one. After GUM, when the guy hits back hand, a BONG and TAN fixes it. Ahhh. ☺️🙏💯
You're very observant. Glad you liked the video.
I really like your honesty Gary Lam sifu. My past wing chun lineages were always shrouded in b.s. using smoke and mirrors "secret techniques here" "deadly techniques" there it was a total waste of my time and money. So I've mentioned coming to L.A. to visit your school. Would it be possible to come join a weekend class session? If so how much would it cost? I really would like to start training again, it's been like 5 years since I've been to a martial arts school that held my attention. And I really like wing chun as I'm coming to appreciate the reality of the WSL lineage. You and David Peterson are definitely ones that I always research.
Yeah, there's a lot of snake oil salesmen out there who take advantage of people.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu yes sir. That's why I would like to experience your school and teachings in person, with your permission of course. I missed your last seminar and I know I would probably make annual visits if was able to make just one. There are more mma schools in Kansas than good kung fu/ wing chun schools and I don't want to just join mma when I know wing chun is where I want to be. Not knocking any mma school it's just not my thing at 50 years old.
@@nathancowans5607 Whenever you're ready, come on by. We have another seminar in August. Here's a link: facebook.com/events/472740831801117
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu thank you sir. I'll keep in touch.
WOW true words!!!! Sifu Gary is the best!
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
Amazing lessons
I'm glad you like them.
0:38 Our favorite teacher starts with THE GUM SAO, and shows us we should be turning in with it. 1:27 he then goes on to tell us about how narrow thinking and rigid structures cheat us. 💯3:40 on a GUM SAO as we press, we shift INWARD just enough. Not too much. Just enough to get that reverse energy shifting back n forth. We move with GUM, and now the other side is loaded. Plus we move our vital center away from his attack. Smart, don’t cheat yourself above all. Don’t except cheap in fighting either. Let them show you what they bring. No fixed ideas. ☺️🙏💯another awesome lesson.
A very well stated analysis. FYI, the first movement was a gum sau, not a pak sau. Thanks for watching. I always appreciate your thoughts.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu ok. Got cha. Key distinction. 🙏
Thanks for the gum Sau and the position. Thanks
This is not a video. This is Gold!
Thank you!
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu Thank you sir.
Stop nothing if I go for U at speed 116 kg
You're not as clever as you think you are. You might want to look up the definition of "kilogram".
Try it with a boxer
Been there. Done that. The boxer went down in 2.5 seconds. Same thing for that Muay Thai fighter back in 2017.
Hi Gary Please can you tell me what does po pai mean when translated. Thanks and thanks for your videos. 👍😊
Roughly translated, it means "pushing hand".
I need to learn wing Chun. Very impressive style.
I agree.
Impressive.
Thanks for watching.
One of the ip ching's student (sifu gray) share a video and it was a criticism of your movement in a video about 20 years ago and I became sad ,I like your style and method
Don't worry. Lots of people like to talk about things they know nothing about. Gray needs to talk less and train more.
Thank u sifu Gary!
You got it.
Every week, another amazing share - this recent CZcams series on the Wooden Dummy really enhances and pairs well together with the other Wooden Dummy Lectures/DVDs (especially the Wing Chun Dummy Combat Applications DVD/Download). Looking forward to your next seminar this August - thank you for sharing your experience
Glad you liked it. See you in August.
If you cover, then tan, same hand takes out two, when you bong his hand/arm will be in a perfect pak da position, or the bong can catch us a lop sao. 💯😁
Your understanding of this fighting system is fantastic! Thanks for your comments!
I mastered the Huen Sau in my atual daily life, from broke to ball! Thanks, Sifu! Greetings and salutations from Da Lat, Vietnam, George Chan
Nice hearing from you! Keep playing guitar!
Very ❤usefull thé best teacher Gary Lam
Thank you very much, and thank you for watching.
The most REALISTIC demo I'd ever seen. This is the how NOT to... self defense series.
Ahhh.. I see. Teacher is showing us the 1. COVER 2. TAN is a little more deeper, and the FOOK points down slightly, the TAN is ACTIVE. It crosses the swords, and pierces his wrist to forearm. 3rd action BONG SAO. He places a WU SAO hand on the forearm once his BONG stops the third swing. What he’s showing is an EASY way to COLLECT both hands with one. The idea being, less effort, more concentrated, work smarter not harder. And maximize the economy of motion. Now, that was an awesome lesson from the premier in HONG KONG FIGHTING. #wingchun and #kungfu in general. Being that what Gary teaches comes from SHAOLIN. White crane, NANAUAN. Southern mantis. And probably some PAK MEI. But my point is, he’s showing a very STREET WAY to handle the arms. His teacher learned from IPMAN. WONG SHEUNG LEUNG 🌸was a real fighter. According to Gary his teacher was good for a TRIPLE HUEN. I’m not sure if that was GAANG SAO WONG but we can guess. These lessons always blow my mind. 😉🤟💯
An excellent articulation of the concepts presented in the video. FYI: Whenever Sifu Lam refers to his own sifu, it's Wong Shun Leung.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu oh. I thank you. I appreciate the candor. Now I know. Appreciate that. 😉✊💯
The dummy arms are straight punches aren’t they? It’s the turn that is made which has them deviating whether inside or outside. Nobody is aiming to punch the opposite shoulder
Yes. And because the dummy is limited in its actions, you have to mentally visualize what your opponent is doing.
Words of wisdom. No martial art is perfect in all individuals. We all practice the best way we can to reach perfection. But the first rule to fighting is never underestimate your opponent. Use what is useful. Discard what is not useful. Make it your own.
Well stated. Thanks for watching.
Man, Sifu still got that sense of humor. Hope your well, take care. Sam, your student from 20 years ago.
Thank you, Sam. Nice hearing from you.
if you suppose to put your hand on the ellbow than it never can be deep on the wooden dummy cuz the distance to hit the body or face is to short. so you can not have distance managment. Nobody has those short arms. so ends of the wooden dummy are the ellbows cuz its trapping distance and not grappling or boxing distance.
Interesting analysis. In our system, the ends of the dummy arms represent the hands. The length of the dummy's arms are not meant to be a literal representation of a human arm.
Karşısındaki defalarca sakinmasina ve yavaş hareket etmesine rağmen vurabilecegini gösterdi ve videoyu izleyen herkeste gördü cok yazik bu video kendine usta diyen biri için utanılacak bir durum
The video is what's called a "demonstration". The only "shame" is that you were too thick-headed to see it.
I'm a Wing Chun practitioner and teacher, and a grappler. Much respect to Sifu Lam. However, the effectiveness of this hypothetical situation is a bit of a reach.
I bet you aren’t even a grappler. Not only that... if you were you would be amazed by this. Are you sure? Cuz that was amazing.
@@JKDVIPER I am a grappler. I am a Sifu. I stand by what I said. Good day to you.
@@calmwater2529 you as well. ✊💯
This is Matt Schaffer. I run this channel for Sifu Lam. I've seen him take on Muay Thai boxers and grapplers. He finished them off in under three seconds. If you would like to see for yourself, come and drop by the school. Sifu would be more than happy to show you.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu That would be great. If you give me 5 secs instead of 3, I'd love to come by. 😂 But it wouldn't be drills or Chi Sao. Just keep that in mind before you speak for someone else. 😀 Or come by my place. I'd even get Dim Sum, after.
Heaps to learn on how relaxed and movement to diffuse attack and to attack at the same time. thanks
Your analysis is spot on. Thanks for watching.
Thankyou
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
mal ganz objektiv, was sind denn das für angriffe und soll das so langsam sein?
The attacks are slow because this is a demonstration. Thanks for watching.
i know Gary Lam is good but this video is so unrealistic
The video is a demonstration of how to apply Wing Chun movements outside of Chi Sau and Gwoh Sau. Thanks for watching.
No it isn’t. He’s GOING LIGHLY. He would use intensity if he was really hitting the person.
@@JKDVIPER Well stated.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFuThere is never any videos of so called masters in real fights. Only demonstrations against own students and wooden dummies..
@@JKDVIPERno one takes bull shito wing chun seriously anymore.
Would practical wing chun Wan Sifu still be using WSL principle and concepts ?
You'll have to ask Wan Sifu.
Ha ha ha, hi hi hi, ho ho ho, très bonne blague, j'ai bien rit
The Finest
Thank you, Mohamed.
I’m not quite sure if it is the best idea to call this video: « STREET FIGHT DEMO », because based what we see, after this title it is a bit disappointing (even more for “not knowers”). I would rather suggest: “LIGHT WEEKEND HOME TRAINING”, or something in that sense. Master Lam has much better videos online from which could be made a nice demo video cut, but this is not one.
Well, you can't please everyone. Thanks for watching.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu 🙏🙇
The same can be demonstrated with the attacker wearing protective clothing and going for it.
@@EnsoGhisonisuccessgateway He could, but he would still hurt.
OMG ! At last - shadow-boxing in v.chun drill.
Have you tried it yet?
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu Yes , i like to do it . But it is my amateur performance . I want to sea it in traditional execution ,
好精彩! Very informative and sifu well use of techniques 💪💪💪
I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for watching it.
bong sao in a street fight😂😂😂 i will eat you like a cheese cake.
i don't get it, there was several times he could of been hit even with the slow punches.
Sifu just demonstrated how to use different hands and techniques. For real fight, sifu properly just Punch and strike opponent's neck in two moves and end the fight 🤯
This was only a demonstration, so the striking was slowed way down. A real fight should be over in 2 to 3 seconds. If you can't finish off your opponent in that time, you should run.
It's a demo not a fight.
@@EnsoGhisonisuccessgateway well that’s kind of my point, if you can’t block from a slow demo, how can you block from a real fight punch?
@@EnsoGhisonisuccessgateway You got that right.
To anyone who doesn’t understand what he’s doing in the video, this is basic hand collection methods we are taught. collection, snd deflection set or.... or.... a way to hit, use position rather than struggle. That was an awesome seminar.
Thank you. I'm always impressed by your understanding of Wing Chun techniques and strategy.
@@GaryLamWingChunKungFu I appreciate you. When I was young I had a boss who I was an apprentice for, and I always took what his personal opinion was seriously. Years later I started to study some GARY LAM Wing Chun, amongst other teachers too, just to be fair. But something always resonated with me with his material. I still make mistakes. But he Kinda taught me creativity. Seeing it. It’s hard to explain but.. I truly believe this material to be correct, better, and even way smarter than other schools. He’s a boss to me. 😎🙏💯
@@JKDVIPER I appreciate your thoughts and insight. They're always illuminating. It's nice to exchange thoughts with a serious practitioner such as yourself.
That's nice to share, but it doesn't match the title of the video.
@@calmwater2529 I think it does. I think he’s showing you several smart positions , how to transition, how to collect two hands with one. And how to use the opponents energy against him.
