One thing this video really highlights is: there is always something more to learn. You can read the books on Wing Chun and watch the videos and memorize the forms, and when you show up to the school, Sifu Lam always has more to teach you. More to learn than just simply memorizing the sequence of actions in the form. More than just copying a movement. NOT LEARN TO IMITATE, LEARN TO USE. Thank you for sharing - another great lesson, thanks again

Fantastic and good point. A lot of teacher’s probably teach the TAN and LOP on set 1-2 as an inside action when in reality it represents the outside TAN more safely. If we TAN’d inside the wrist, maybe no choice or bad reaction, we’d already hit with that same hand so there’s no need to tan inside and reach for the head. A simple 1-2 would be more than sufficient. I reality, it’s an OUTSIDE ACTION. Wrong bong is only when we aren’t properly facing them and get turned away. 💯💡😉

The dummy arms are straight punches aren’t they? It’s the turn that is made which has them deviating whether inside or outside. Nobody is aiming to punch the opposite shoulder

Yes. And because the dummy is limited in its actions, you have to mentally visualize what your opponent is doing.

Sifu Gary, i need your help, i have a problem with the fear of being hit in the face, everybody i know got rid of that fear, and when I pucnh, they act like i just threw a tenis ball, they literally catch and block it, but when i try to block punches or even counterattack, I'm scared as if someone uses a gun agaisnt me, i blink, i lean back, i run away, i raise my knee because of that fear, only a few moments when i managed to block everything so easly because my opponent was shorter and his punches were so easy to block because of his body structure, and can't even scare me off with fake jabs, but my brother is scary as f*** 😂, i don't know how to deal with him, he just throws me at wall and the pressure is killing me, I'm so afraid i blink lean back and give up, my techniques work only when I'm straight and not scared, I don know how to cure this 😢

You need to train more. The more you train, the more your confidence will improve.

In the first section, the left arm of wooden dummy is the punch from your opponent‘s right hand, and vice versa😉
But in some moves of first section, the arm of the wooden dummy doesn’t exist🙃

Very good teaching from Sifu Gary but have to disagree a little bit. Bong in this section is a wrong Bong, so you do Tan Da to correct the wrong Bong.

The only thing that makes a bong wrong or not, would be if you FACE or not. Meaning, if he’s a righty southpaw, and we go in right hand lead, BIJONG we’d be facing away from him. But as you know, we learn that way too. But if we face him with a left up front, just a slight turn, that first TAN would be inside his wrist. If we bong facing, it’s correct. If we bong lead hand facing away, it’s wrong. 😎🤘🏼💡💯so on a lefty let’s say, I’d face him with a right up front, use bong Sao on a punch, move, and change. The change putting us inside of course. If I go back right hand bong and twist it in it would be a wrong bong. Wrong bong is best used as a fake. As far as the TAN SAO and LOP SAO on the set, set 1-2 both have us grabbing outside even though it’s done in practicality on the inside peg/ but it’s really used in applications outside. Not safe inside. As you know, if we TAN’D inside? We’d hit with that hand first. So people teaching the TAN and LOP as an inside action is wrong. 💯💡☑️👈🏻😎

It could be wrong bong, but usually people dont just leave their arm out there for you to bong then switch to tan, they pull back and hit you with the other hand. If its correct bong, then the other punch comes and you tan on the outside. Its 2 separate punches, thats why he says you have to use you're imagination. Many things in Wing Chun can be used can be used in multiple situations. The techniques are versatile.
