Fuji is dumbing down the cameras because they are focusing on the Instax printers. Theorizing the advanced features we want in an analog camera is in the digital or hybrid camera (ala Mini Evo). I definitely want to see more advanced features Instax analog cameras but it won't come from Fuji.

If anyone is here because the carriage is jammed and making strange noises, check the transport lock at the back of the scanner. It's quite easy to knock closed if you can cleaning around the unit.

At about 22 seconds, that should be TWICE the shots, not half the shots.

Also another question, is it typically expected that the rewind lever should move on every single advance? I noticed in my camera today, around frames 24-26 it didn't move at all, around 27 it started to twitch again, so I am guessing maybe there was some slack in the canister again?

Hey Nico, great tutorial :-) I've been shooting the M6 now for about a year and only had a mis-load once where the film didn't catch in the tulip, so statistically I'm doing pretty good. A question for you though, I've never seen anyone do one advance while the back door is still open, so in totally, for every new roll, are you doing 3 "pre-advances" 1 where the door is still open, and then 2 & 3 are when everything is closed again as you need two advances and shutter releases to get to frame 1 in the counter?

So if i do not have TTL meter can i switch back and forth from diff viewfinders that are non TTL and not remove lense at all or i also have to remove lens?

Do you think a risk to buy one of this cameras? Batteries, electronics, ... I love the planar and my old SL66 is dead and it is not possible to repair it. I would like to switch to the 6008, but I have one thousands doubts..

how many times can i reuse it if i make 1 litre ? and how long do i need to develop if i develop kodachrome 40?

It all depends on the kind of photography you are doing...kind of difficult to do wet and dry plate photography in any other medium...

yes, I get the "thinking wide" statements, I just recently got a sinar F2 and an included 90 5.6 and the next lens I got was a 65 5.6 both Fujinon SWD's; so what I do is plan my trip, recon for those wide shots (I just shot it, but with a sinar vario 120 back, used 6x12 as I had shots in mind, at my local botanic garden), tall trees, and a glasshouse a panoramic style shoot, got most of it, one I 'fried' the top of a tree, as the sky was too bright, the other was a wind-on issue, so lost the first frame, but the ones that did turn out, Fantastic, Proved the system, no light leaks, focussing issues, both shutters worked fine, thats all I wanted from it, and got a few good shots to boot.

Nico, a bit of advice from a 40 year pro in videomaking. The next time you shoot an instructional video, prepare well, ideally with a written text - it's called a script. Then you won't confuse the clockwise direction and you won't confuse the self/lever/film counter system. Just my 2 cents.

I agree that instant film photography is the future of film. That's why they need to make lens interchangeable instant cameras so we can adapt our lenses from other brands to it. For example an instant camera that can work with vintage manual focus lenses. There is a company called NONS that makes interchangeable-lens SLR instant cameras... but there has to be cheaper options and they have to be more readily available.

Very good reasoning for a person new to LF to make a choice! Would you recommend a lens for starting out? Make and size?

I beg to difference the nikon f5 was the best f camera made the f6 was a afterthought. Sort of like Sony making a cd Walkman in 2010

Hello Nico, I see you shot this video six years ago so I don't know that you will see this note. I find my self getting back into shooting film with the intention of shooting six by twelve. I have a DIY 4x5 that I made myself, (no bellows), And I am within a few days picking up the Intrepid. At the present time I only have a 75 mm. and wow it is super wide it's also really wide on my 6x9 roll back. I also plan to pick up two more lenses, likely a 90mm and a 135mm. Did you know and I am sure you must, that you can purchase half dark slides so you can shoot two 6x12 on one four by five sheet of film? Now I have a question. do you think I can pull this of With a 90mm and the 135? That is, can I get enough bellows movement with those two lenses on the Intrepid (no bag bellows)? Thanks Matt

@2:26 I was aware that many large format lenses do not resolve as well as medium format or small format lenses. However, I thought the high-quality large format lenses were equal in quality or superior in quality to small and medium format lenses.

This is all true, but there is one thing that 8x10 has that just makes it all so worth. The magic! 8x10 is the most magical format.

Apart from what you say, in the M6TTL model, the knob to adjust the speed is turned in the direction that the exposure meter arrow in the viewfinder points, which is contrary to the custom of previous models (and later MP and MA), but it is more natural and intuitive.

I don't get all the negative comments by many people. They are claiming it's too expensive & better to buy a used 1970s camera. The thing is Used film cameras are not cheap & are not reliable at all. I can't give explanation for some people who might find it pleasing when their used old film camera brokes (mechanical) or just dies (electronic). Maybe they like self inflected pain 😬. Many of us don't have the knowledge to repair it ourselves when it breaks & cameras with electronics (like the canon Ae1, Nikon f3, Pentax me) need someone skilled to do so. And quite a lot of us are not lucky to have a person/store near our place that still repairs film cameras in this day & age. And how can anyone buy Leica film camera? It cost the same as a car where I'm based. So I'm really happy Pentax has launched this new film camera.

This is a camera for non-photographers. More particularly, it is for people who for whatever motivation want to shoot film photos, but do not want to learn the skills to do so. The camera substitutes a variety of automatic aperture and focus settings for manual control to ensure that a wider variety of photos can be successfully had while the user remains totally ignorant of how to take those photos. The manual focus option is more advertising as an upscale camera than anything. The focus is motorized and could have been made fully autofocus at no greater cost, but doing so would have lost a "cool factor". Most of the auto exposure setting impose either a wide open or fully closed aperture, neither of which yields an optimum imaging quality. Of the several dozen "reviews", none detail the construction of the lens, which appears to be withheld by Pentax. So it remains to be seen if it is capable of more than smaller images for digital conversion to social media. Since that is probably the goal of nearly all who will purchase the camera, that may not be an issue. Idea: Rather than worry about building another film camera more up to expectations of serious users, Pentax should consider producing a quality 35mm dedicated film scanner in the price range of $500, designed to deal with the half frame and full frame formats. That would balance well with this camera, and it might prove more popular than the camera itself. Such a scanner should easily exceed the image quality of the current fixation on using digital cameras to photo-scan film negatives while avoiding the considerable expense and difficulty of such arrangements.

Nice it seems nice. I don't know how consistent it is, looking at it it seems a lot of plastic. Undoubtedly a curious camera, just for its half format. Beyond the new signs of life of Pentax, albeit under the aegis of Ricoh, I would say that for the price, absolutely for amateurs only, and the qualities, when I want to relax with analog, I hold on tightly to my Nikon F5 with all my lens park.... for the rest I have my Z8 and the Z6 as a mule. I notice a lot people posting comments that they don't like this camera etc etc, but this camera is not aimed at people ("photo nerds") looking at Nico's channel, but it's trying to attract a new younger generation who only know digital. Time will tell if it does attract them.

I like the camera very much, but not enthused about zone focusing. Seems rather archaic to have to use a tape measure to estimate the distance to anything you want to photograph. Why couldn't they just install auto or rangefinder focusing?
