I own luminar AI and Have a subscription for luminar neo. The masking ai is horrible to be honest. J do more portraits. I'm hoping Aperty works well being i brought the lifetime license to avoid continuing to purchase credits using Evoto. I can do my retouching in Photoshop but it is more time consuming which is how i ended up trying evoto. Luminar needs to make it's AI detection better so i can manipulate the background easier.

I opted out of Adobe all together. Using ON1 now, don’t know about photoshop but much better than Lightroom 👍

The branch to the right of the bird bothers me in being too bright. I would consider masking and darkening it. Thoughts?

Before I post to social media, I review the image on my phone to see if it needs any additional editing. I frequently find that the image is too dark and needs a bit of brightening.

PS: You a so coorect about waliking a way.........I go back a few hours to days later and think to myself "Whhat the H--- were you thinkig?"

Tony, as always informative and easy to follow. I have a few questions; When using "denoise" why not go to 100% from the start? I like to remove "objets, senory spots, ect" next, I am presently workin in WY/MT for the summer and trying to do both wilelfie and landscape, the dust is everywhere, the vista are spectacular. Changing lenslens is done only inside thee vehicle, not always effective. After correcting for white balnce I like to use the "AUTO" buttom in the "Basic" button next as it seens to point me in the right direction before making other mirror changed on my own, any thoughts? The "space bar" in the masking option is a greart tip, thanks.

I still use my D500 and 200-500 for my bird photography and get sharpness results that look exactly like what you achieved in your sample photo here. Are you happy with the sharpness in the eye or do you find it lacking? Maybe, I am being too critical and need to rethink my idea of sharpness. Because, if you are satisfied with this result, then I should be also and will stop thinking I need to move to a Z8 and a 180-600 and be forced to eat raman noodles for the next year.

It's horses for courses. I make denoise the last thing I do. I process my photos in LR, save as Jpegs then do a batch Denoise of Topaz. It seems to work very well.

Doesn't work well with the DNG files coming back from DxO PR4 - unless I'm doing something wrong mine went from 236mb down to just 220mb any thoughts @anthonymorganti please

It's a very nice image. I would be tempted to remove the light coloured branch that you left in. (UK English)

This is very nice and helpful, for my subjective taste I would take a brush and darkened the white branches in the background as their white competes/detracts from the bird.

2:44 in, you mentioned "it's not smart." However, I read "Enhance uses AI to improve image quality." That tells me that it is smart. What say you?

Hi Anthony, did you try adding a local adjustment and the select architecture etc from the drop down list? That selects all buildings for example. Cool video!

I was wondering what to do to see the result after many edits like sky replacement, face AI, remove, , development, color, studio light etc. I don't really know where to click onto to see the result. Most of the time I click back and forth between Tools and Edit. It is also confusing to remove items on the background when a sky replacement has been applied. After removing that Sky replacement it is very difficult to find it back without clicking on all of them until you find the one you used before. I don't see the sky's name until I select it. Can you give some advice?

Interesting video Anthony, it's nice to see you getting away from Adobe now and again. A lot of people are leaving Adobe and going to other applications, especially Infinity and Corel Photoshop

Great video Anthony. I recently took some photos for my great Nieces prom and I used Luminar to edit them. I particularly liked the masking (object select ai) which allowed me to edit each person individually :)

Thanks for the interesting video. Have you tried zooming in to get rid of those blood vessels in the eye? I use the studio light when you you have black hair on a black background, to have the person's figure sticking out better. Neo seems to have an issue with darker or asian faces in darker settings: it does see the body, but not the faces. I also wonder why Skylum features do not work on animals. There are no features to specifically edit animals and wildlife. Don't you agree?

Thanks, interesting and well presented video as always. A question, what can you do in a B&W plugin that you can't do in Lightroom? Unless they have some advantage, it seems a lot of money to spend on a duplicate application.

I'm learning Neo in hopes of finding a more privacy-friendly alternative to Lightroom for my boudoir photography. It's not a very easy transition. Right now my biggest complaint is with Neo's AI teeth whitening function. Unlike Lightroom, you can't shift the color balance of the teeth to actually get rid of the yellow, you can just make it brighter. This tool should be called "teeth brightener" rather than whitener. I asked customer service if this deficiency would be addressed in Aperty. They didn't answer the question.

I checked with Skylum customer service to see if they were going to offer a trial period on the new Aperty. They said no. So it appears that they expect you to pay for the new app in advance without ever having a chance to try it out. Maybe they will have a money back guarantee, but I couldn't see any evidence of that. Buyer beware.

You could have opened the shadows AND masked the background

Luminar is nothing but a toy as it is as a standalone editor. It’s clunky and childish looking. It works well as a plugin in Lightroom and Photoshop. But that’s it. Plus even they learned that they can’t avoid subscriptions! However at least Adobe gives you everything for your subscription! Luminar nickel and dimes you with everything little new feature they create! Neo is the last version I’ll be purchasing!

Great video. Need help with something. Once I've reviewed all imported photos how do I delete all that I've rejected by marking with an "x" during my preview?

Smart Collections didn't work for me at all in Lightroom Classic CC. I tried to make a smart collection of images greater than 9.8mb and it pulled in images much smaller than that. My rule was: size - megapixels - is greater than - 9.8. Lightroom pulled 8MB images into the smart collection. Why can't Adobe just give us the option to sort by file size(MB) in the main folders? Users have been asking for this option for at least 4 years now.
